Advice needed, please

DH and I have just found out we are about to lose £500 a month income.

I had started another thread, but I was advised to come here for some advice. We don't know what we are going to do and I wondered if anyone could help us. Name changed because lots of these details would out us.

We have just taken on an 18 month lease with a letting agent. We have spoken to them this morning, and we cannot break this. We could simply not pay, but we would lose our deposit, and would struggle to find a landlord that would take us on if we did this.

We currently earn about £30k between us, take home about £23k.

Rent is £1000
Council Tax is £200
Gas and Electricity is £190
Phone/Broadband is £50
Childcare is (currently) £350
Car insurance is £60
Car payment is £140
Petrol around £80
Home insurance is £20
Gym membership is £75

Think that is everything. Obviously, this leaves us over budget. I genuinely don't know what we will do without this money?

We aren't entitled to any benefits, including WTC and CTC.

I genuinely don't know what to do.

Agree with ^ but people got upset with her me included as she seemingly lied about the details which were fundamental in being to post accurate advice.

When advice was posted she did not like she just said can't do that. She didn't seem willing to accept she need to make some hard decisions. She wanted the same circumstances for less money and that just wasn't going to happen.

I don't think she was a troll but I think she lied unessacarily.

The problem is that having read the threads, other posters couldn't be sure whether she really was distressed and also couldn't be sure whether she is 8 months pregnant. They couldn't really be sure about anything.

I'd like some advice. Here are a load of facts. You can't be sure which ones are true. Some facts which are "true" today will be "false" tomorrow.

I'm a big fan of taking what posters write at face value. But once I know some or all of it is fictional, there's just no point engaging.

jinty if really in scotland it must be Edinburgh maybe it's morningside rather than city centre as every other city is cheaper than edinburgh

I think a large part of her is still focused on PIL's money. She's thinking to herself 'See, we really can't do it, we DID need the money, we weren't being selfish'

Yes. Exactly this.

But in Morningside you would not have a rubbish local school. That's why it doesn't make sense - the uber expensive areas are expensive for a reason.

sleepyhead · 21/02/2014 15:29

She said she needed a car because there was virtually no public transport, so that excludes all the expensive areas of Edinburgh. I was assuming Aberdeen tbh, but I suspect given that the op was clearly keen to rule out any chance of being recognised in real life, all of the details in her posts are designed to mislead.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. The advice given was sound and it's up to the op, or anyone else in a similar situation, to take it or leave it. When you're in this sort of financial bind, none of the solutions are palatable unfortunately but I think it's important to realise that this too shall pass even though it doesn't feel like it at the time. Even if you end up with a trashed credit rating, even if you end up in cramped accommodation, even if your child doesn't go to the top school you dreamed of, it's not the end of the world.
