How much do you spend on nappies? and if less than me where from please?

I thought I was being really clever buying supermarket nappies and wipes (Morrison's/wilko/Asda all roughly the same price)

DS 2.7, DD 10 months - both in size 5's, we get the 2 packs of 40 for £10 and they along with 4 packs of wipes (51p a pack) generally last us a week

was just looking at subscribe and save on Amazon, cheapest price per nappy for that size works out at 13.5p where the ones we get are 12.5p - hadn't really thought about the cost per month or year but £50 a month sounds quite a lot and I know plenty of people who spend over £2 on a pack of wipes and goodness knows how much on nappies...I didn't realise it would bother me but I just hate that all of that money is basically going to end up on a landfill site!

I used cloth nappies for 7 months when DS was little (then his poo became horrendous and has been ever since and as I was pregnant I could no longer handle it) - if you use cloth nappies how many times a week do you put a washload on (I do as many as it takes to empty the basket, twice a week) how do you manage on the go? (we are out of the house a LOT and currently neither Child needs changing more than once every 3-4 hours unless they've pooed) and does it really save money?

sorry lots of questions there but I'm a bit as I thought we were doing really well! this is probably just something to put up with until they're potty trained...isn't it?! thoughts please

Have you tried lidl nappies? The brand is toujours and I've found them as good as pampers but loads cheaper. They are very slim too, whereas I've found sainsburys and asdas quite bulky.

Aldi are brill too

Tesco value nappies are under 1.50 for a pack of 20 - think they are 7p each or something. I got some the other week when I was staying with my mum, and they worked fine.

I normally get aldi ones at home, but can't remember the price, sorry. Aldi ones seem quite generous size, dd still fits size 4.

Used to use cloth, but dd started complaining they wereuncomfortable - think they were too bulky. I used to put a load on every two days, but guess with 2 in nappies would be more like daily for you.

I second Lidl

I use cloth and do a load every other day. Nappies cost me £270 upfront cost and liners are £3.70 for 100 so over 2 years £11.78 per month plus leccy/non-bio liquid and liners. Still less than £20 a month by my reckoning.
I'm also hoping to get c£150 back from resale of nappies which would make it £3.75 a month plus

Out and about for the day I take a wet bag for dirties. Longer than a day I use dispies (unless staying somewhere with a machine) as we only have 20 nappies but expect that to be once/twice a year max.

Plus they're soooo cute

We use cloth too. Bought them when they were on various offers, so only spent about £150 for them new. Stopped bothering with liners now too - just shake into the loo and flush.

Aldi are amazing.

no aldi near us (they don't do online do they?) we have a lidl but it's out of town and we don't drive. May have to try cloth nappies again, I've still got all the bits in the cupboard. I was using muslin cloths cut up as liners, seemed to do the job and were really soft. May have to have a trek to lidl

mackerel were the Tesco ones crinkly? we got the asda value ones at £1.50 for 20 and they're like plastic bags!

If your son is 2.7, can't you get him potty trained now?! That would cut your bills in half straight off!

I would try and potty train the oldest. Fingers crossed you could cut your nappy Bill in half.

Sainsbury basics are fab honest! One pound 41 pence. Not plasticy at all and I've had no problem with them, even over night

I only buy Aldi or Lidl. They are only around 10p each. Smaller sizes are even cheaper.

Lidl are great, but varies by baby. I'd have thought a 10mo would be in size 4 still as my 19mo dd is, and you get 6 extra per pack compared to size 5.
If you've already got cloth I'd try that for a bit - I do cloth in the day and take one cloth out with me, then disposables at night and extras in the nappy bag - works out as 2 washes a week including a bunch of clothes usually too - though if there's a really icky one I wash nappies alone.
I use paper liners which last about 6 washes if no poo, which means most of the time the nappies aren't bad, but every couple weeks there's a splatty one. 3-4 nappies a day does mount up if they are all disposable.

cost = £4.60 pack about once a month, plus pound or two for laundry materials - 100 liners lasts a year for about £10.

I used washables with fleece liners so the poo just dropped off into the loo 99% of the time! Used cotton wool and water for cleaning whenever possible.

Bought washables 2nd hand, used 1 disposable per day overnight

I didn't find tesco ones crinkly. Slightly bulkier than standard ones, and just plain white, no pictures. I thought they were fine.

I get pampers baby dry on amazon subscribe and save for £12.40 per box of 124 nappies - I have twins so buy 2 or 3 boxes a month.

I think I'll try the value ones first, then if that doesn't work will attempt the cloth route again. yes I could attempt to potty train but I'm lazy I'm trying to go with the idea that when DS is ready he'll let me know, he currently wees in the potty if naked but not if he's wearing pants, I've always said I'll be 'baby'-led with it the same as everything else which has worked great so far 'cause he's bloody stubborn like his mother but of course it would cut costs, I'd certainly like him to be out of nappies if and when we think about having another DC (although if DH works out how much it's costing us that might make up his mind not to )

teabag yes you'd think a 10 month old would be in size 4's but she's massive, both in width and height

Lidl nappies are £4.49 for 50ish. I would never use any other nappy.

right so I've bought a pack of Sainsbury's basic nappies and a pack of Tesco value ones, both very plain but much nicer than Asda's basic ones which as I say are like plastic bags (we've got 4 packs of them in the cupboard for emergencies!) - they're both just like the other supermarket ranges but with no fancy pictures on them. I used to buy the really cheap ones but I can't remember where I got them from, (thought it was Asda so stocked up in error!) DD is in one and DS in the other to try them out, but they both look absolutely fine! I now need to find out if we can get our food shopping delivered from either with delivery for less than Asda (doubt it but using mysupermarket only compares what they think are similar items) because it's a fair old trek to walk but potentially you lot could be saving me £4 a week - doesn't sound a huge amount but will add up over time. so a big thank you!

Get some washable baby wipes cheeky wipes or similar - they are about 30 a kit so I reckon they pay for themselves in a few months sooo much better for poo removal too

I've just tried morrisons value nappies - no cute picture on front - very good.

I find cheap wipes a waste of money though as I end up using more so buy huggies in bulk from Costco.

Finally, and this is a bit controversial - how often are you nappy changing? I change a dirty nappy ASAP. But wet nappies don't need to be changed every 2 hours during the day (they are designed to stay dry all night after all) My children have never had nappy rash and in the day I only change dirty nappies or wet nappies that feel full.
