Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

Would of been a 2nd nsd but dh came in with a joint of pork, some lamb chops and some chicken fillets they had all been reduced to £1 in tesco.

OnTheBottomWithAStringOfTinsel · 03/01/2013 22:34

OK I'm in too, lurked on Tues (which was a NSD by accident as I didn't leave the sofa!) and did a deliberate one yesterday. Had to get milk and bread this morning though.

Aiming for 10 - but by payday which is the 23rd. Am off till the 14th to study as I have exams so no trips to town should make it a bit easier. Then just before I go back to work I will make soups to bring in for lunches. I can eat all the crap left over from Christmas if I want a treat!

mum23girlys · 03/01/2013 23:24

Had to get some food today but just a small basic shop as dh doesn't get paid till the 10th and we have only about £15 to last till then. Got plenty in freezer though.

So today was £15 in Aldi and £4 in Sainsbos. Hoping for a nsd tomorrow.

I'd like to join in, please, if I may? Have been reading the thread but only just got a moment to collect my thoughts and post.

I really need to have 31 NSDs this month as, due to the way my contracts are paid, I was a week 'light' at the end of Dec. Jan was always going to be tight but now it's really really tight and I can't even pay all the bills Sad. So there will be a knock on for the next few months as I get straight again, though I've picked up a bit more work which will help. Plus I've some debts I need to try and clear - got arrangements in place but would be nice to try and clear some sooner.

Anyway, January is about survival. I am trying to manage on £100 per week to cover fuel, food, incidentals. It should be doable. But it would still be good not to use it all. This week I have been very lucky as my mum is still staying after Christmas and she insisted on buying some groceries - I didn't refuse Blush. So the month so far:
1st- NSD
2nd -train fare to work (£4.80 but means a £5 saving on petrol + parking!) and had to tax the car - £75.00
today- work in car as needed there and had to buy petrol, milk and bread. But got petrol for next week (my week goes Fri - Fri) out of this week's allowance so am a little bit ahead Smile

So does it count for things like train fare to work? Or is it a NSD if I only pay for fare and nothing else, no coffees etc?

Weekend might be a bit expensive as have got to get DD1 back to uni and drop mum off on way, it's a 2 hour-ish trip, got the petrol but will likely need a coffee stop. But after that, it will be back to being me and DD2 - is a huge difference between housekeeping for 4 and housekeeping for 2, so might need even less each week - fingers crossed anyway!

Am going to aim for 12 NSDs - so far I think I have achieved 1!

MrsShrek3 · 04/01/2013 00:24

have lurked and read but now wondering if I could join you please?

MrsShrek3 · 04/01/2013 00:29

have had NSDs for 2013 so far. mainly owing to having paid three large bills recently (between Christmas and new yr) and having around a fiver in the bank til tomorrowBlush

PartTimeModel · 04/01/2013 00:38

This sounds fantastic!! I'll aim for 10 in Jan but tomorrow I need to buy a car and necessary bits to go with.

Which Is why I need to do NSD's Grin

VestaCurry · 04/01/2013 00:46

NSD yesterday so 2/3 so far.

Billybubbles · 04/01/2013 01:09

Well did a big shop in aldi today, went to chemist and then popped to tescos for a couple of bits that aldi dont have and spent 35poundsShock.This is exactly what i need to stop doing....going in for one thing and spending a fortune.
I am going to put milk and paper money in a jar every week because these are things i get every day and will be my downfall.so if i can dip inthe jar for these ill be ok..hopefully.
So tomorrow will be get milk and paper and sort out jar and i should be up and running and ready to go with first nsd on saturday.

GW297 · 04/01/2013 10:10

If done 3 now but only because I had to wait in all day for a parcel! Will be spending money today though as need milk and meeting a friend for lunch and another for coffee!

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 04/01/2013 10:38

Definitely not going to be a nsd today as its shop day and I have a pr of shoe boots to pick upbthat I had ordered before I joined this thread.

hurricanewyn · 04/01/2013 10:53

Morning all
Planned spend today. Will be super tight & get the free bus from Sainsburys into town though.
So I'll stay at 2/10 today.

MirandaWest · 04/01/2013 10:53

Had NSD yesterday and the day before. Went to morrisons today but this was very necessary Grin

silverfrog · 04/01/2013 10:56

I'm hoping for a nsd today, but will see how it pans out. the dds (dd1 - severe ASD - in particular) are going a bit stir crazy.

dd1's favourite thing in the world is going to the supermarket Hmm. would only need to buy some bananas or something small, but would prefer not to.

am not really up to dealing with the constant nagging, though, due to toothache, so may capitulate...

bigkidsdidit · 04/01/2013 14:28

I'm shaping up for my 3rd in a row! 3/15!

this is a bit of a cheat though, I'm working at home yesterday, today and tomorrwo procrastinating wildly writing a paper and we don't have shops in walking distance. DH and DS did the little shop yesterday and are off to a farm adn cafe today so it feels a bit odd counting these days (as the family spent money, IYSWIM)

anyway, I'm pleased :) my subs to my professional body come out next week, £175 :(

bigkidsdidit · 04/01/2013 14:29

blimey today is actually my 4th Shock

4/15!

hurricanewyn · 04/01/2013 14:31

You're doing well bigkids

bigkidsdidit · 04/01/2013 14:39

it's not normal!

Shinyshoes1 · 04/01/2013 16:23

Still 1/15

I has to buy milk again today and have to stock up tomorrow and have no fruit in some having a nsd is out if the question

I'm aiming for a nsd Sunday which should be pretty easy as I don't leave the house Sunday's and should have enough in so I don't need to send the children out for supplies

flossy101 · 04/01/2013 16:54

Still on 2/10 as paid my next account off, cancelled the thing too as far too easy and tempting for me to spend. Hoping for a non spend day tomorrow, but it's always harder at the weekend I find.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 04/01/2013 17:00

NSD! Found some christmas treat food leftovers to take on playdate instead of buying biscuits.

2/10

oopsadaisymaisy · 04/01/2013 17:36

Can I join please. I'm so useless with money and my boiler broke a few days before Xmas and I'm completely broke. I ve had 2 days free of spending so far. I ve only used the car once this week out of necessity, ds activity too far to walk to. I'm hoping the weather holds out so I can cycle to work next week. I be got major outgoings in Feb so I ll need a no spend Feb too.

silverfrog · 04/01/2013 17:37

Managed another nsd, so 2/10 for me.

Tomorrow won't be, as we have dd1's OT session, so will try for Sunday for next one.

lorisparkle · 04/01/2013 17:38

I'm on 2/15 now and hopefully tomorrow will make 3 as we are off to my mum's. I am very impressed by the 4 bigkidsdidit.

Booyhoo · 04/01/2013 17:54
