Dh second covid infection. Spent entire day in bed on day 1

He was fine yesterday. Had no idea he was really anything but 100%. I was feeling weirdly tired. I often do but I was pretty wiped out so went to bed at 6pm for a few hours. Dh went into work then came home after a hour as he has tested positive for covid so got sent home. He has been asleep all day. Is this normal? He has had it before.

I know a couple of people who have had it 2/3 times before and felt fine but this latest infection has completely wiped them out and made them feel awful.

It sounds normal from my own experience and that of friends that I've heard. I was completely wiped out for the first two days. It was bad after that too but the first two days were awful. I couldn't get out of bed and just slept.

It's normal to go to bed when you're feeling crap, he's obviously feeling rotten. Everyone I know who's had it felt awful with it, so much for it just being a bad cold.

That's not good to hear. I have a very mild sore throat but I think it's stress. I have had it twice so hopefully we won't both end up bed ridden

Yes I've had it 3 times. All I did was sleep.
The third time was last week . I was sent home after testing positive and from Wednesday through to Saturday I slept slept slept. Major headache as well but all 3 times major headache and exhaustion
I've been jabbed 3 times as well made no difference in symptoms between March 2020 no jabs November 2022 3 jabs and last week 2023 3 jabs

@IncessantNameChanger when I had it, its just made me absolutely exhausted. I had an irritating cough for one day and virus/fever symptoms for a day but other than that was fine but completely wiped out.

He is still asleep. He seemed totally fine this morning. Just had a temperature.

Unfortunately how it was on your last bout isn't that good a guide to what the next one will be like. It's not a given that it'll be milder.

Look after yourselves, and if you have an oximeter, check your sats

I've got it at the mo, and spent days 1 and 2 in bed, mostly sleeping. My boss tried to power through it a few weeks ago and is still feeling tired, whereas I reckon resting now is better for future recovery. Hope he recovers soon.

Last time I had it (recently) I only tested positive for four days, but my god the tiredness ! It was like early days pregnancy all over again !

I had a nap when I had covid as I was shattered (only recently had it the first time). I didn't even nap when I had a newborn.
I was fine jogging by day 8 though. Weird virus.

I work in covid medicines (anti virals) and speak to covid patients day in day out. I haven't noticed any pattern at all in symptoms or tiredness - a lot of people are actually surprised they have it.

before I had this job I assumed that the more vulnerable you are (and you'd be surprised at how small the 'vulnerable' cohort is) the more unwell you'd be but no!

endlessly fascinating my job 😀

Thanks. I will take his stats in the morning. He not got up for a drink or food. We have a pulse oximetre too. It is a weird virus. I had it pre vaccine. Felt fine ( only knew as lost taste and smell) but no one caught it off me. Ds had it, no one caught it. Ds got it the second time and we was all ill.

First time l got it l was in bed for days. Could barely walk to the bathroom. Felt so ill. Had vaccine before that but l was totally wiped.

Second time l had a horrendous pain in my back. That was it. Once l took painkillers l was fine, up and about.
It's impossible to tell.

Had covid twice first time pre vaccines and o was in bed for a week. Dh was in bed for 5 weeks and very very poorley.

Has he been vaccinated?

I felt utterly crap too after all my jabs while dh was fine. It is a very odd virus. Try to get him to keep his fluids up though good doesn't matter but he should drink.

I’ve had it twice with no symptoms, so you can’t say ‘no one caught it off you’ because I may have had it 10 times and not known.

DH had it so I tested. He was really unwell - and slept - I was perfectly fine.

Why do people say it's odd? Flu knocks you out too, you can easily spend a week in bed asleep. It's a virus, has everyone forgotten how they all feel, not just Covid ?

Covid #1 2 weeks of my life written off. Days of not getting dressed. Followed by long covid
covid #2 kept on forgetting l was ill. Felt mildly under the weather for 12 hour tops
covid #3 = rough. Day 4 and 5 were spent in bed. Currently on day 6. But better but super drained. All this even though l have had all 4 vaccines. But l am quite pregnant with twins

The whole thing is unpredictable. I hope he feels better soon

My dh would bring me drinks if I was ill in bed. Have you made sure he's drinking enough?

It is odd because I had it when there was no vaccine. I had not been in contact with anyone in the two week window before to catch it from. So if its that's super contagious I caught it walking past someone how come no one I lived with caught it? I suspect I caught it three weeks before as I was stood for ages outside of A&E talking to a paramedic in the loading bay, but that's not possible. I had it but I wasn't at all unwell.

Flu On the other hand is pretty consistent symptoms. I'm a biologist so I'm not saying it woo odd. It's just very odd how it's spread and effects people differently. I think it's a virus we will learn about over the years. I have the profile of some whom should get very ill from it, but it doesn't really effect me at all. Like bovine CJD in humans I think they will discover some genome resistance to its effects in the future.

He has been vaccinated but it's been over a year so I doubt there's much protection left. He is up today, shuffling about. I'd have a stonking headache from lack of fluids but he seems relatively with it
