I know it's a divisive subject.. just thought people may be interested..

www.msn.com/en-gb/health/medical/covid-horror-as-cases-spike-50-percent-in-10-days-causing-scientists-to-issue-dire-warning/ar-AA16VhEm?ocid=mailsignout&pc=U591&cvid=cf708cce6d2f49e793fbd3205e6de532

I'm still the only one I know wearing a mask..

OP posts:

I'm interested OP. It affects our lives, economy, access to health etc whether we acknowledge it or not.

Hopefullyupwards · 31/01/2023 13:07

Of course, if I wasn't^^ interested, I'd take the rational step of scrolling on by, rather than commenting.

I’m CEV (had the aforementioned antivirals “rushed” to me) - life goes on.

Imagine how shocked I was a few weeks ago to learn a colleague LITERALLY hasn’t left his house for THREE years! 🙄😲

Luckily for him the post keeps on delivering, the water company keeps testing the quality and the electricity company keep on going.

It's not just the illness though
The reason I'm wearing a mask and staying in (which doesn't affect anyone else)
Pain chasing 111 for antivirals
Loss of money as off work sick
Loss of commission as off work
Having to arrange food shopping as isolating
Further damage down the line caused by covid isn't really known
Loss of fitness - I've had to start from scratch again

Yes it probably won't kill me now but I'm immunocompromised and trying to avoid it because of all the above. But me staying home affects nobody else

Unfortunately we can’t have that sort of discussion on here.
Because it would be nice to discuss some of those things and covid itself because it’s an interesting virus. Although interesting in a not particularly good way.

Fuck Covid

Motheranddaughter · 03/02/2023 06:52

Wear a mask if you want, I never will again
The damage done by the lockdowns is huge and we should all be working together to get the country over that

Such a daft thing to say. If you are told to wear a mask then you will have to. It's not very likely but stamping your foot and saying shan't is just pointless.

You worry about the damage you think has been done while I grieve for dead relatives who shouldn't have died.

Well, no. Not only are there exemptions that are unpoliceable but in the unlikely event of new mask mandates, it's clear there wouldn't be real enforcement in public spaces anyway. We saw that last time when some supermarkets basically said nah, not our job. There are some situations where some people might have to, but actually most of the population won't have to most of the time if they decide against it.

Additionally, the very clear reluctance of a good chunk of the population to go along with mask laws again is a big part of the reason why they're so unlikely at this point. The more people say 'shan't' the more obvious this is. You don't have to approve of any of this to understand that it's the reality.

Nope. Won’t have to at all. Didn’t wear one last time and wouldn’t again.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 03/02/2023 11:05

This all goes back to the point of why the article OP links to is about vaccine uptake and doesn't mention restrictions at all. Because the latter have been and gone, for reasons including but not limited to those referenced in the last few posts, and the area for policy discussion now is vaccines.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/02/2023 11:09

Nope, didn't last time (had a medical issue and claimed a medical exemption) and won't again. Not that I think the situation is likely to arise. Covid's endemic now.

Motheranddaughter · 03/02/2023 11:25

Think what you like,I won’t wear a mask again

Hopefullyupwards · 03/02/2023 13:30

@RafaistheKingofClay unfortunately that's probably true!

Margarita45 · 03/02/2023 13:46

And yet official stats show 15% increases in cases and ONS shows a prevalence reduction to 1 in 70 🤷🏻‍♀️

Absolutely agree.

ONS seems to have been about 3 weeks behind throughout every wave of the pandemic so far. If the cases are going up the ONS will follow in a bit.

Certainly the number of cases we have in our hospital has stopped going down and started rising again.

lurchermummy · 03/02/2023 22:08

Those articles are so irresponsible. The language they use is deliberately inflammatory "new horror" when in reality it's mildly interesting at best.
Covid horror

Be great to see what sunglasseonthetable and MinkyGreen etc think of the posts on this thread which started outside of their Covid board territory, seems the consensus isn't as on your side as you think maybe?

All your aged relatives are going to die. As are you. I hope this doesn’t come as too much of a shock to you.

I am annoyed that this performative bollocks has cost me my sight and my mobility because preventative medicine could’ve been given when I was being investigated pre-lockdown.

You crack on. You’ll still die.

No point getting any treatments for anything then

sunglassesonthetable · 04/02/2023 09:59

@HelpfulMonkey

Let it go monkey 😂

HelpfulMonkey · 04/02/2023 14:23

@sunglassesonthetable
Let what go?
Wacky use of an emoji there?
Just genuinely interested to know your opinion on what the world outside of the Mumsnet Covid board thinks of the situation.
LOL

sunglassesonthetable · 04/02/2023 15:36

No you're not.

You're just pissed because I argued with you like, a week or so ago.

Get a life.

Hopefullyupwards · 04/02/2023 18:25

'No point getting any treatments for anything then'
That seems to be what is being said. V odd. Why is it that often the people who say this only apply it to covid?

I asked that a couple of years ago. Still waiting for an answer.

I’m also not hugely convinced pumping people full of chemo and letting a pandemic virus run amok is going to lead to a more positive outcome for cancer patients.
