I know it's a divisive subject.. just thought people may be interested..

www.msn.com/en-gb/health/medical/covid-horror-as-cases-spike-50-percent-in-10-days-causing-scientists-to-issue-dire-warning/ar-AA16VhEm?ocid=mailsignout&pc=U591&cvid=cf708cce6d2f49e793fbd3205e6de532

I'm still the only one I know wearing a mask..

OP posts:
JanusTheFirst · 31/01/2023 08:23

The WHO say wearing masks does help so the random self appointed experts of MN are wrong. As they so often are.

It's a very small thing to do to protect the vulnerable but some people are so self obsessed that they don't care.

It killed DH's cousin last week. No matter how many time people witter on about having it loads of times and being OK a lot of people aren't. She had no other health problems. Just Covid.

I’m more interested in my mother in law who died because her cancer scans were delayed.

Screw all of you covid bed wetters. Go hide in your basements with 50 masks. Let the rest of us get on with our lives. Or the lucky ones that made it out alive should I say.

Lockdowns killed more people than they saved. My DH is now without his mother.

I'm so sorry, and this is the real legacy of lockdowns. But hey, as long as it's not covid that kills us, everything is fine.

Giveaschitt · 31/01/2023 08:33

Those dramatic "50% increase" stats are from ZOE ffs. They're so desperate to stay relevant. I bet the number of people still logging symptoms on their app is tiny now, I think I'd take their stats with a pinch of salt tbh...

DressingForRevenge · 31/01/2023 08:34

My uncle is in hospital with it right now and not expected to survive. Everyone is hoping he won’t. He doesn’t recognise his wife of 70 years. It’s ludicrous the young are paying the price. I had 3 friends die last year (aged 45-50) due to missed cancers.

MichaelFabricantWig · 31/01/2023 08:37

is there not still a Covid board?

YABU for posting this shit here, most people have moved on and no longer give 2 shiny fucks about Covid, there have been similar scaremongering articles all along. This is how it goes, it comes in waves and dies back. People still seem desperate to cling on to it, maintaining they are still CEV by 2020 standards even though vaccination has been a game changer. At least move it to the Covid board.

gogohmm · 31/01/2023 08:40

I'm just carrying on with life, in me covid was less serious than a cold. It's unfortunate but covid is endemic now so no point overthinking it. If you feel better covering your face that's your choice but unless it's a proper medical grade or better respirator it is not going to help you and can give false security. Dp is in the industry so regularly gives us lectures Grin

Considering WHO’s blatant lies, cover ups and secrets at the start of the pandemic that was a major cause of exactly why the spread was so bad, you shouldn’t trust they know anything about mask wearing.

But some of us ARE. There's a reason I got anti virals and was put under monitoring at home
If my risk was the same as everyone else's I wouldn't have had 6 vaccines and the NHS wouldn't have bothered sending me a taxi with medication straight after a positive test
500,000 are still very much CEV

Yes the vaccines have helped but the 500,000 can't make antibodies

I know of a couple still wearing masks it's personal choice and tbh on crowded public transport I will wear one too

I wear one on a train still. I am going on a plane on Thursday and will take a view about whether to wear one then.

x2boys · 31/01/2023 09:59

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/01/2023 08:01

No, they are probably potential bank robbers searching fruitlessly for any branch of a bank that has not been closed down.

😂😂

lieselotte · 31/01/2023 10:00

Although I am more worried about getting flu or one of the other horrible lurgies going around than covid, to be fair.

Does that mean this doesn't need to be moved to the covid board. I know I ask this all the time, but why can't people just scroll past the discussions that are of no interest to them?

How does somebody ‘in the industry’ not know the evidence about masks? Which industry is it he’s in?

TheKeatingFive · 31/01/2023 10:31

Wear a mask if you want to wear a mask.

Its that simple.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is though.

Zoe, really? That's a barrel scrape even for the Express.

roarfeckingroarr · 31/01/2023 11:28

I've still not had it. Stopped getting jabbed after the third dose. Really not interested in the number of cases.

And you know so much better? Hilarious.

I trust the science more than random ill-informed anons on social media. Most people do.

In what way is it a "small thing"? Do you not realise the impact that lockdowns and measures have had on society, our economy, the mental welfare of the country, and the needless deaths from other illnesses? Anyone under the age of 40 is going to be paying for this for the rest of their lives. The after effects are going to be dealt with for decades, and all these elderly vulnerable people we are protecting will be long gone enjoying a peaceful rest!

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 31/01/2023 11:46

TBF the article doesn't actually mention masks. That was OP.

The two scientists quoted were discussing low take up rates of autumn boosters amongst those it was offered to. I don't follow either of those scientists generally, though I do recognise the names, but it could be that they both understand why masking as a public health policy in the UK would be a waste of time now. Prof Altmann mentions China too, where obviously mask laws have been very strict. It's clearly an article focused on vaccination and boosters.

ivykaty44 · 31/01/2023 11:48

@Walkinginthesand

why does there have to be a link?

LivMumsnet · 31/01/2023 11:50

We've moved this over to our Covid board now. Thanks all. Smile

TheKeatingFive · 31/01/2023 11:59

Yes the article doesn't mention masks. If you're vulnerable or concerned about covid get boosted, look after your health more generally, wear a medical grade mask if you want.

The wider public will make their own decisions.

EmmaEmerald · 31/01/2023 12:04

Tim Spector tweeted on 22nd about an all time low, so there's possibly bounce back, peaks and troughs etc.

👋 living life to the full mask wearer here. Mostly because I don’t mind wearing them (worn them for years previously due to work) and can’t really afford to be ill.
I think I will probably always wear one in busy indoor areas now it’s become habit for me.
Im completely pro choice though I don’t really care if other people wear one or not.

Topseyt123 · 31/01/2023 12:11

If you wish to wear a mask then wear one. Nobody is stopping anyIone.

For many reasons, I don't wish to wear one. I'll still put one on if requanired in a medical setting, but not otherwise.

Covid is endemic now. We have to live with it. I don't think we have any more chance of ridding ourselves of it or avoiding it than we do of eradicating the common cold.

I am in one of the clinically vulnerable categories, though not CEV. I have had four vaccines and have also had Covid (it was like a heavy cold on me, and it did settle uncomfortably on my chest). It was much improved in less than a fortnight.

I will take annual vaccine boosters if I am offered them but other than that I no longer give Covid much headspace if I am honest. Life has to go on, and thank god we have now more or less returned to normal.

This is the press looking for a story, and when it can't find one it makes one out of anything it can get its claws into.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 31/01/2023 12:14

Same. Wear it, don't wear it, do what you like and leave other people to do the same. It's the only way.
