How quickly did Covid pass through your family?

My DH tested positive this morning and he is feeling really unwell. He has the cough, chills, nausea etc.
I will be amazed if I don’t come down with it as we have been drinking from the same glass and sleeping in the same bed.
From other’s experience does it pass from one person to another pretty quickly?
We are meant to be going on holiday a week today so I fear that might not happen now. 🙁

It didn't here either. I've had it twice now and both times noone else in the house caught it. And I didn't isolate away in one room or wipe stuff down every time I touched it like some people I know did either.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/08/2022 23:38

It didn't really pass through our family at all. DH caught it and I tested positive seven days later but neither child caught it. DS then had it months later and none of us caught it from him. DD has never had as far as we know.

IllDoItButOnlyForTheAttention · 09/08/2022 00:37

The 4 of us went down like dominoes. DS, then me the next day, then DD the next day, then DH. But it was all over within 7-8 days.

Twiglets1 · 09/08/2022 07:40

I caught it a few days after my husband but then we do share a bed. My son (living in the same house) did not catch it from us even though we didn't self isolate from him and continued to eat meals together etc.

TenoringBehind · 09/08/2022 07:59

It didn’t.

ds1 had it back in October, the rest of us didn’t catch it.
ds2 had it a month ago and the the rest of us didn’t catch it.

they did isolate from the rest of us once we knew they had it.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 09/08/2022 08:05

3 of us all caught it at different times, I've had it twice.

Ds 3 and ds4 have both just had it , ds4 for the first time and ex also caught it but his wife and her son didn't

pinkchampagne1 · 09/08/2022 10:58

Thanks for your replies. It seems lots of you escaped catching it from family members which is reassuring, although I share a bed with DH and he has been coughing all night so I am thinking I’m doomed! 😳

OH tested positive first, I tested +ve on his day 9 then DD tested +ve on my day 9.

Abraxan · 09/08/2022 11:23

I've had it twice and Dh once. Dd not at all as far as we know.

Neither me or Dh passed it to one another. I had is October 2020 and January 2022z Dh had it April 2022.

We didn't isolate within the house and slept in the same bed, etc. we both appeared to age caught it at our work places.

Dd was around for two of those occasions and didn't catch it. Infact she's been around it a lot at university and with friends, even sharing a tent with a friend at a festival who caught it. She's tested throughout and dine two antibody tests but has no virus acquired antibodies, only vaccine ones now.

pinkchampagne1 · 09/08/2022 11:25

Wow, you would think you were in the clear after 9 days! DH has been coughing loads in bed so it will be a miracle if I escape this.
It’s always when you have nice things planned that you get struck down isn’t it? We were meant to be at a hotel tonight, a concert on Friday and have our holiday booked for next Monday. 🙁

Rosehugger · 09/08/2022 11:27

DD2 got it in May and none of the rest of us got it until June. But then we all got it within a week. None badly, thank goodness.

Rosehugger · 09/08/2022 11:27

I tested postive for a week, but DD2 took about ten days to test negative.

pinkchampagne1 · 09/08/2022 11:28

Abraxan, that has given me some hope. I work with children so am amazed I haven’t caught it before now. My DH usually works nights and tends to catch bugs a lot easier than me. He came down with it on day 1 of his 2 week holiday from work. 🙁

RomComPhooey · 08/08/2022 19:32

I’m on day 9 of symptoms. Did my first test on day 3 when I realised it was more than a normal cold. DH tested positive on my day 4, DS2 on my day 5. DS1 has surprised us all by dodging it (so far) and has tested negative on all the LFTs he’s done before going into work. We had all spent a week together in the car on a road trip so haven’t bothered isolating etc.

DS1 now positive, my day 10. 😬

pinkchampagne1 · 09/08/2022 11:50

Oh no! I hope your DS is okay.Have you been really poorly with it? My DH is on day 3 today and seems at his worse in the early hours. He is coughing lots today but the cough sounds looser than it was.

OP posts:
RomComPhooey · 09/08/2022 17:06

For us it’s been worse than a normal cold, but not as bad as flu. We all rallied around day 5. DH and I are WFH at the mo so probably returned too quickly. We’re now both feeling tired and washed out. DH had a nap after breakfast before starting work this morning. 😕

pinkchampagne1 · 10/08/2022 17:00

I hope you’re all feeling better soon.
DH is on day 4 now. He is coughing quite a bit but seems a bit better than he did on Sun/Mon. He says he has waves of feeling unwell and is still dosing himself up every 4 hours.

This time, in July it passed through in under a week. DD2 felt unwell on Saturday, on Sunday morning DD1 and I still tested negative (for an event) but started mild symptoms Sunday night. DH on Monday. We all had mild flu-like symptoms and a temperature, felt a bit rotten for a day.
I was very strongly positive on Tuesday but DD2 was negative again and went back to school as per rules... By the Weekend we were "back to normal" except for sense of taste/smell which took a few more weeks to normalise for me.

pinkchampagne1 · 10/08/2022 19:43

Sounds like you were lucky and all had it very mildly.

My DH seems to improve a bit and then go downhill again. I think it is more flu like than bad cold with him but then I remind myself that he makes a big fuss every time he had a cold!

eggsandwich · 11/08/2022 10:15

We’re a family of four, dh tested positive on the Monday just gone though I suspect he was probably positive a lot sooner than that , he just thought he had a heavy cold, that same day Monday morning I tested myself and my 22 year old son and we were negative, Phew!

Monday evening I started to feel rough so did another lateral and it came up poitive🙁

This morning our dd who had returned to her university accommodation on the Saturday text to say she woke up with a headache and sore throat, did a lateral and she’s now positive, I’m a bit worried for her as she has an auto immune disease.

I’m hoping my ds doesn’t test positive as he has severe learning difficulties and is non verbal, we’ve all been vaccinated so fingers crossed.

The sore throat is the worst bit, dh is coughing but I’m sneezing and had a temperature of 39.2 at one point but its since come down, we’ve just been resting and drink plenty of water and paracetamol.

pinkchampagne1 · 11/08/2022 10:23

Oh no, I hope you are all feeling better soon.
Mt DH is coughing really badly, it actually seems to be getting worse and he is on day 5 or 6 today.
Fingers crossed, the rest of us seem okay at the moment.

3 days between each member going down. Didn't go to grandma as she didn't do close contact

eggsandwich · 13/08/2022 21:19

Well this morning my ds tested positive, so the whole family has gone down with Covid.

Dd seems to be doing ok when we FaceTimed, and ds also seems to be coping so fingers crossed given both their difficulties.

pinkchampagne1 · 13/08/2022 21:30

Oh no, I hope your DS is going to be ok.

My DH is still coughing loads on day 7. This is dragging on longer than I expected it to.

Both DCs tested positive on a Sunday night. They were totally wiped out on the Monday and a little off colour on the Tuesday. I felt a little unwell on the Wednesday morning (negative LFT), but I tested again Wednesday evening and it was positive. DCs seemed fully recovered by this point. I felt really unwell by the Thursday late afternoon. Very unwell on the Friday, not great on the Saturday. Started to feel much better on the Monday. DH didn’t catch it.
