Horrendous sore throat with COVID?

Wonderingmum77 · 21/07/2022 17:24

Has anyone else had this HELLISH throat when you have covid?

Sunday I had a temperature and felt rotten. Slight sore throat. Monday and Tuesday felt like I had a rough cold.

Wednesday & Today I’ve literally had the most sore throat I’ve ever had. Pain killers don’t touch it. My voice is only a whisper, it hurts to even swallow water. I’ve tried gargling salt water. I’ve tried numbing throat spray. NOTHING HELPS!

I would say this is less painful than when I had my tonsils out and the cut got infected.

someone tell me they had this with COVID??? How long did it last? What relieved it?

Omg! You poor thing. I had it in exactly the way you describe. It took a couple of days but it did pass. Keep taking the ibuprofen if you can - that helped enormously

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 21/07/2022 17:26

Yes there have been lots of threads. If you do a search you will find them.

ItsOnlyWordsInnit · 21/07/2022 17:34

Yup, that was exactly mine two weeks ago. My main strategy was trying to force down warm lemon with honey, but every swallow was hell. I also had some numbing throat pastilles, not sure you can get them in the UK. I also gargled with salt water and some sort of medicated throatwash. Not sure any of it helped. It went after about 4-5 days. It was definitely concentrated on one spot of my throat, felt like an ulcer. Foul stuff, but TBH it was my first covid infection and I‘d feared worse.

pinklavenders · 21/07/2022 17:45

Yes! That was my main covid symptom. Plus tiredness.

itwasthegintalking · 21/07/2022 17:53

Yes, same here! It's horrible, that along side feeling breathless at times.
Anyone else found they have felt more unwell as the days go on rather than the other way round? Feeling a bit anxious that I'll feel worse again tomorrow

Jennybeans401 · 22/07/2022 14:33

Yes same here, I'm on day 3 and I feel like my throat has been slit. It's so painful to even talk and the dcs are constantly in and out asking me things. I feel rotten.

Jennybeans401 · 22/07/2022 14:33

I also have a terrible hacking cough too!!@

Karmatime · 22/07/2022 17:23

I had it - for about 3 days - I used lemsip max but about an hour after a dose of ibruprofen so that I could swallow. The best things were ice lollies - I liked the fruit pastilles ones the best.

Purplehonesty2 · 22/07/2022 19:24

Yes I had mine for 4/5 days when I had covid in Feb. It was really the only symptom I had and then one morning I woke up and it was gone and I was negative.

So weird as the day before it was agony!

Figgygal · 22/07/2022 19:28

Yes was my worst symptom when i had it back in april

mydailymailhell · 22/07/2022 19:30

I had this awful sore throat last week (wasn’t covid) and the only thing that helped was dissolving a painkiller in water …aspirin or cocodamol …and gargling with it

Honks · 22/07/2022 20:01

Yes I had it , was agonising. I found the numbing spray helped a bit.
Was drinking honey and lemon but the lemon seemed to aggravate it.
A teaspoon of honey in hot water was a soothing drink.
Lasted about 3 days.
Hope you feel better soon.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 22/07/2022 20:02

Ice lollies and ibruprofen!

Wonderingmum77 · 22/07/2022 22:37

Thought I’d give an update in case someone else reads this at a later date.

  • Saturday night, felt ropey… so went to bed early.

  • Sunday woke up with a temperature and sore throat (nothing too severe) tested COVID POSITIVE

  • Monday, fever went. Still sore throat but not that bad

  • Tuesday, genuinely thought I’ll be back to normal life Wednesday.

  • Wednesday…. Woke up with a sore throat I’ve never imagined. Swallowing hurt. Drinking hurt. My voice was just a whisper. Didn’t eat all day, then finally ate at 8pm. Didn’t make the sore throat better. But didn’t make it worse.

  • Thursday… same as Wednesday. Never had sore throat like it. But tried to eat more as it didn’t make it worse. Nothing helped.

  • Friday throat didn’t hurt when I was just relaxed. But still extremely sore when talking, drinking, eating.

it’s now currently 10:30pm on Friday and I’ve managed to have a conversation where my voice isn’t just a whisper and I’ve been able to drink without it feeling like I’m drinking shards of glass.

feel like I’m getting there. The sore throat is still there but less severe.

I had a very sore throat with Covid but I get severe sore throats all the time (perils of phone work) and although it was bad I’ve had worse.

I find with a really sore throat tepid drinks rather than hot or cold are more soothing. My Covid throat only lasted a couple of days. Hope it’s better soon.

whoamI00 · 23/07/2022 05:16

Can anybody tell me how long it lasted? My throat hurts and it's been like this for over a week.

Poor you. Try gargling with hydrogen peroxide solution - only thing that ever helps me.

BlackForestCake · 23/07/2022 06:54

I have the sore throat too. Everything else (slight cough, throbbing head) is manageable. What are the best lozenges?

Borgonzola · 23/07/2022 07:21

Hate to say this but I had Covid a month ago and I still have the awful sore throat, especially in the mornings Sad

Kcc73 · 23/07/2022 09:58

Hi, I posted earlier in week about having sore throat as main symptom, plus aches and fatigue. Started Tues night. Throat a bit better today. Still feel so tired after just going downstairs, doing couple light tasks. But still testing negative for covid!! Anyone else?? Don't know whether to forget idea in my head that it ever has been covid. I guess without pcr tests never know. Still avoiding hanging out closely w family. They all OK

Tyrozets

BlackForestCake · 23/07/2022 11:22

Haven't Tyrozets been discontinued?

Hoppinggreen · 23/07/2022 11:25

Yes, worst sore throat ever. Could hardly swallow at all and breathing took some effort. Even codeine didn’t touch it
I got antibiotics and it eased after a couple of days of taking them.

JazzyBBG · 23/07/2022 19:19

How are you today? I'm on day 8/9 and it's got worse last 3 days.
