To think that covid causes projectile vomiting

So I tested positive earlier this week. Dh was the loving giver of this literally shit show. Dh worst day was day 2, then he got progressively better. Sure enough me and dc 2 (7 months) tested positive and come say 2 we were struggling but then got marginally better day 3, and day 5/6 I thought the worst was behind us… I’ve been projectile vomiting whilst on the loo (if you catch my drift) since 8pm last night, I’m only just able to keep small amounts of fluid down.
as soon as it started I kept away from dc2 and expressed his milk just in case was a sickness bug, but low and behold, he’s been vomiting this morn.

is this covid? Does covid cause extreme vomiting the dr from 111 didn’t think so, but google tells me other wise?

anyone here been vom.com from covid?? Is this a thing?

I was vomiting/ empty reaching for 12 hours on Thursday the day I tested positive for Covid. I am 11 weeks pregnant and constantly nauseous so I think Covid just aggravated my all day sickness tbh. This is my second time getting Covid and didn’t get sick the first time.

Unavailable101 · 17/07/2022 14:53

I had the projectile vomiting the first two days and my tummy troubles lasted 8 bloody weeks. Hope you feel better soon.

Preeeettyprettygood · 17/07/2022 14:58

I've just started to feel better the last couple of days after testing positive for the third time after having it at Xmas and this time round was completely different.

My main symptoms I've had is no appetite, nausea and being sick, that has outweighed any other symptom apart from constant headaches this time. I'd rather have had the cold symptoms. Also not helped with the heat we've been having

I hope you feel better soon OP

My grandmother caught COVID right at the start of the pandemic and her ONLY symptoms were D&V. She was on holiday in Spain and thought it was travellers tummy, but my grandad had classic COVID symptoms and once they were home they both tested positive.

Of course it's possible to have COVID and a tummy bug at the same time, maybe that's what happened to her and you / your DS, but it does seem like COVID can cause tummy upsets in some people.

Not vomiting here, but dodgy stomach and still having daily diarrhoea here, mild but difficult to manage if I have to go out. It seems to come on after eating.

What probiotics did people find that helped this?

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 17/07/2022 15:19

Both me and my 2 year old were projectile vomiting at the time we had covid, it was horrendous.

ImaniMumsnet · 17/07/2022 16:22

Hi OP,

Just poking our head round to say we are going to move this to the COVID board as it seems like a better fit. ;-)

They need to talk about this more as a potential covid symptoms. I feel like death but Christ for a baby to go through this, it’s horrible. Poor wee chap.

dh soon to be relegated to just h is also refusing to take the day off tomorrow. So I’ll be looking after a near 3 year old who’s boisterous and absolutely fine and a projectile vomiting baby walking the line of dehydration, in 38 degree heat when I can barely stand, can’t breath and can barely keep sips of water down myself. Fan fucking tastic
.

so mnetters feeling sorry for myself and having a moan

Oh bless you, it sounds awful. I also know many people at work who had horrible vomiting mid way through Covid. Most of them had Covid before, is this your first go round?

And I think tell you DH he has to stay home tomorrow! What if you faint, so dehydrated already and the heat... I'd say it's dangerous for him to expect you to manage.

Really hope you're on the mend soon and your baby improves quickly, it's worrying I'm sure! Hugs.

Started with horror of a headache. Went on to pain on the right, under the rib. Vomiting came a day or 2 later but was the thing that caused most difficulty. Lying down gave something like reflux, both painful and nauseating. The other symptoms had given way to each other but I couldn't work out how (if at all) they were connected. So the rib pain was the overarching thing while it lasted, but it went away without fanfare with the vomiting phase.
I had a saline drip in A&E (had not been able to pass urine for too long) and this was amazing, better than I could have imagined, although it made me shudder for ages and feel freezing because it was going in very cold. Tried anti nausea prescription, usually given to tolerate chemo, and it didn't have a noticeable effect - straight back out again.
Hope you are ok. Try whatever you can (for you) for a little bit more liquid - jelly? Ice pops?

whenwillthemadnessend · 17/07/2022 17:10

I had the runs but no vomit

Rest of us ok. So. Was nauseas first day but been ok since.

We took a good probiotic which may have helped.

he works from home 90% of the time just a 4 day a month office policy which what a surprise is what gave us all sodding covid in the first place.

im honestly so weak, And my body hurts so much, I can barely stand or walk let alone carry my 20lb baby and I definitely shouldn’t be preparing food.

it has to the covid right? No one else is sick, and we’ve not been anywhere as in we’ve not left the house in a week to have got gastroenteritis from anyone. What’s bizarre is that I was feeling a lot better, symptoms had gone from awful awful flu to nasty cold to pain in the ass cold

3 of 4 of us here have had covid and none of us were vomiting but we all had a headache. I think symptoms vary depending on who has it tbh

thats when I get it, after eating. 19 months later. Sometimes can be immediate and very explosive. I Keep a carrier bag and wipes in the car, just in case, and yes, I’ve used them.

Lanareyrey · 18/07/2022 11:06

I had projectile vomiting too!

How are you managing today, any better? I do think it sounds like Covid but hope you're on the mend now and baby is too. Oh and that your DH stayed home to look after you!

Thanks for checking in sweet!

i started feeling more human again last night, and the sheer pain in my body started to ease, felt a bit sick in the night, baby did too as he projectiled again. But we’re back to having a sucky cold again Id say. Baby’s nappies are getting heavier and his urine lighter, although he’s been quite difficult with his milk today, extra worry with it being so hot. Toddler is still right as rain lol, untouched by it all
