To think that covid causes projectile vomiting

So I tested positive earlier this week. Dh was the loving giver of this literally shit show. Dh worst day was day 2, then he got progressively better. Sure enough me and dc 2 (7 months) tested positive and come say 2 we were struggling but then got marginally better day 3, and day 5/6 I thought the worst was behind us… I’ve been projectile vomiting whilst on the loo (if you catch my drift) since 8pm last night, I’m only just able to keep small amounts of fluid down.
as soon as it started I kept away from dc2 and expressed his milk just in case was a sickness bug, but low and behold, he’s been vomiting this morn.

is this covid? Does covid cause extreme vomiting the dr from 111 didn’t think so, but google tells me other wise?

anyone here been vom.com from covid?? Is this a thing?

Well I'm not sure nobody in our house vomited with covid I did have an upset stomach for a day, what you have sounds dreadful I hope you and the baby are better soon.

Purplestorm83 · 17/07/2022 11:53

My daughter and one of her teachers both had covid in January and were also projectile vomiting - but the rest of my family had covid and the same time and none of us were sick. At the time I assumed they were just unlucky and had two different bugs at the same time, but since then I have heard of other people projectiling so maybe it’s a symptom that only some people get.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 17/07/2022 11:55

Yes I had horrific vomiting for 3 days when I had covid

Riddlemethisplz · 17/07/2022 12:01

It’s hideous, no word of a lie, a mere drop of water into my mouth triggered hours of vomiting and dry heaving.

dc1 has been negative the whole time so she’s fine and dandy, no sickness In her either so she’s not given us gastroenteritis. We had pizza for dinner, so no food poisoning (baby had a tiny amount the size of my index finger and promptly dropped it, the rest of his dinner was boiled eggs, pasta and carrot battons… so no chance of poisoning there).

he’s been sick 2 times and his second nappy was a lot lighter in weight than normal. 111 have said monitor and a and e if necessary but I’ve called a and e and they said due to heat wave wait time is 10 hrs and I’m too weak right now so would need another adult with me. Let’s hope he’s not sick anymore

Was it when you thought you were ‘in the clear’ too?

i vomited in the post covid period (1 week after). I think it messed up my stomach.

tootsierubs · 17/07/2022 12:07

My son is on day 3 and was vomiting all day yesterday, couldn't even keep water down.

What did you do? Did he need to be admitted? I’m terrified about this for my baby, I’m genuinely too weak to carry him, I can barely move and last heat wave childrens a and e had a wait of 15 hrs, called today and they said they anticipated 10 hrs

I vomited for several days when I had COVID last month, as did my preschooler. I also had the worst migraine and whole body aches. No sore throat or cough.

I've had a dodgy stomach since which has only started to improve after I started taking probiotics.

bloomflower · 17/07/2022 12:38

yes probiotics seem to help a lot

onemouseplace · 17/07/2022 12:40

We can't work out whether we had covid or a stomach bug last month - stomach bug went though all of us, one by one, all with same symptoms of not being able to keep anything down for a couple of days, then feeling weak for the next few until we could eat properly again. DH was the only one who tested positive for covid and he had heavy cold symptoms as well.

TheBeastReleased · 17/07/2022 12:46

I'm currently on day 20 of covid and still vomiting on and off, and feel pretty nauseous most of the time. Days 2-6 were the worst for me in terms of vomiting - like you I couldn't even keep water down for about 48 hours. It then got much better for a week and I could tolerate normal diet and fluids, but the nausea and vomiting has come back again over the last few days.

No one else in the family has had vomiting although my two boys (4 years and 12 months) both lost their appetites. Everyone else has recovered pretty much back to full health but I'm still feeling absolutely terrible.

Babdoc · 17/07/2022 12:48

Covid causes a huge increase in discharge from your sinuses, and swallowing a lot of that can easily provoke vomiting.
I had Covid for the second time 2 weeks ago, fainted off my chair at the breakfast table, came round on the floor and vomited everywhere.
It can also cause spectacular explosive diarrhoea!
Having said that, norovirus is also circulating, and is a potent cause of D and V. I hope you and your family soon feel better, OP. Keep as cool and well hydrated as you can, especially in the heatwave.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 17/07/2022 12:51

The d and projectile v were my main symptoms. I still have urgent diarrhoea daily 18 months later, though I did have well controlled IBS before COVID.

ThinWomansBrain · 17/07/2022 12:55

If I had an upset stomach, whatever the cause (or direction it was coming out), Pizza would not be my first food choice.
You switched your child to a plain meal - did it not occur to you to chose a plainer meal that would be easier on your stomach in the first place?

The pizza was before the sickness. We thought we were all fine and dandy, coming out the other side…. How wrong I was, it’s come out of the blue

sorry, misunderstood :)

Ontomatopea · 17/07/2022 13:08

My DC was very vommy

Santorini22 · 17/07/2022 13:12

I ended up at the hospital dehydrated because of covid....

Riddlemethisplz · 17/07/2022 13:15

They need to talk about this more as a potential covid symptoms. I feel like death but Christ for a baby to go through this, it’s horrible. Poor wee chap.

dh soon to be relegated to just h is also refusing to take the day off tomorrow. So I’ll be looking after a near 3 year old who’s boisterous and absolutely fine and a projectile vomiting baby walking the line of dehydration, in 38 degree heat when I can barely stand, can’t breath and can barely keep sips of water down myself. Fan fucking tastic
.

so mnetters feeling sorry for myself and having a moan

TuckerJenkins · 17/07/2022 13:19

Don’t know if this is at all relevant, OP, but within 48hrs of 2nd Covid jab (a weak version of Covid, I’m guessing?🤷‍♀️) I was suddenly v v nauseous and without warning, vomited all over myself and my passenger seat😥 This continued into a second day.
Maybe Covid just attacks the stomach and that’s what’s happened?

sorry to hear you and family are ill, it’s extra grim in this weather 💐

Lindy2 · 17/07/2022 13:21

When my children had Covid their main symptom was vomiting.

DH and I had nausea and diarrhoea amongst our wide selection of other equally unpleasant symptoms.

I also know of 2 adults who needed hospital treatment because of the severe vomiting - not kept in but needing medical help because of the amount of sickness they were suffering.

I'm astounded that some medical professionals are still so unaware of the huge range of Covid symptoms. At this stage in the pandemic there's really no excuse for a GP not to know this.

I’ve been told I’ve gastroenteritis too but I’ve been nowhere to get it, no one else has it just me and the baby… surely it has to be covid, our symptoms started at the same time and have been identical.

i know it’s not up there with medical emergencies as such but If anyones the praying/ positive vibes kind, would you mind keeping my baby son in mind. It’s so awful being so powerless when they are suffering.

Poor little thing, wishing you both all the best.

I didn't vomit but I did feel really nauseous, a friend of mines first symptom was really bad diarrhoea, I luckily missed that one too.
