What was Omicron like if you had Delta?

Sorry, this has undoubtedly been done.

I had Delta in early December which absolutely flattened me - would have been bearable if not for the anxiety, racing thoughts and insomnia. It was grim.

I've just got back from a weekend in London, lots of crowds, tubes, busus etc. Started sneezing and feeling a bit feverish today, and similar anxiety feelings 😐 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if I did have it now as we have a holiday booked in August. Just wondering how bad it would be.

I had Omicron at end of 2021 after 2 previous bouts of (likely) Delta.
I was wiped out for a few days, tired, dizzy, like a bad cold. Then I got a UTI so felt crap for a few more days. All in all, not awful and much more manageable than previous infections. Caveat obviously is previous infections and I'm double vax, booster 2 weeks bang on before I got infected!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/06/2022 21:02

I had two jabs, Delta 6 months after that, then my third jab 6 months before this possible Omicron.

Fingers crossed it's better than last time.

I will NOT be happy with the Londoners if they've just given me another cold. I need to get this out of the way!

Had both

Delta at Christmas
Omicron just before Easter

Omicron was easier. Started with sore throat, sneezing, feeling awful but nothing like delta.

Test maybe ?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/06/2022 21:19

I'm going to test tomorrow if I still have symptoms.

Feeling reassured so far by people's experiences.

Delta - no symptoms at all, only knew I had it because dd was going for a test (she had symptoms) so took one myself.

omicron - was unwell for 2 weeks, cough, high temp, really snotty nose and achy, I still have the cough now 2 months on.

trying29 · 07/06/2022 21:26

I had delta last may and was wiped out by it for 10 days. I had omicron for Christmas and was only unwell a couple of days. I was triple vaxxed and I have had ongoing symptoms since omicron… I didn’t get this with delta

Singleandproud · 07/06/2022 21:27

DD had Delta (or so we assume in Sept) before she had the fist vaccine it completely floored her, she's very rarely ill and it was the worst I had ever seen her, she had a high temperature for 5 days, brain fog, pains in her limbs, barely moved from the bed I made her on the sofa. Slept in with me as couldn't face climbing the ladder to her high sleeper which was very unusual.

She caught covid from me in February (probs omicron) and was absolutely fine, just a sniffle and light cold symptoms.

Dilbertian · 07/06/2022 21:28

Delta laid me flat for several weeks, whereas this cold I've just had was worse than Omicron.

Remember, other viruses are also available.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/06/2022 08:44

I've had soooo many colds this year already, so it could well just be another bog standard one. I'm thinking Covid-y thoughts mainly because I really want to get it out of the way before our holiday. I know it's idiotic to want to get it; it's just that this is a big holiday and the thought of spending a chunk of it wiped out does not appeal. (Cold symptoms would be fine, I'm just nervous after the last ordeal.)

Delta - sinusy, many many sneezes

Omicron - didn’t officially have it (lat flows were neg throughout), but did feel a bit tired and off colour for a day (my ds had it and generously smeared it all over me).

Notmytiep · 08/06/2022 10:11

Omicron was nothing compared to Delta. I thought I was on my way to see my maker when I had delta.

palacegirl77 · 08/06/2022 14:49

Wasnt really ill with either. Omicron was more of a cold (didnt get a cold with delta) and delta was more headachy, but had many worse infections in years gone by.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 11/06/2022 16:17

I had delta in October, was flattened for 2 weeks and took another couple of weeks to slowly feel better. That was with 2 jabs and 3 days before my original booster appt. Tested negative after 10 days.

Had omicron last week (I assume) and felt the same, but only for 4 days in total. Tested negative after 5 days. I am however still knackered, and like last time, if I have a day where I do too much, the next day is a write off.

Oddsocks55 · 12/06/2022 08:58

I had delta in September and only really had a headache and tiredness. Then had omicron in March and was in bed for 2 days with a fever, feeling breathless and sick. It took me several weeks to get my strength back.

whenwillthemadnessend · 12/06/2022 09:07

3/4 of us in our house have had a really bad cold. Tested negative.

Still Feel shit now 5 days later Cold been a sod to shift but due to masks prob not had a cold Since 2019 so maybe immunity a bit low in that department. Hopefully will be higher now.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/06/2022 09:24

How does anyone know what variant they have? All of them are circulating at the same time, according to a recent articles there are high levels of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 at the moment but Delta still exists and is being caught?

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 17/06/2022 22:09

Delta laid me flat for several weeks, whereas this cold I've just had was worse than Omicron.

Same here.

How does anyone know what variant they have?
I assumed my first infection was Delta based on the timing and the symptoms (including loss of taste and smell) and the second Omicron based on timing and mild cold symptoms. I actually tested positive again about a month ago and the symptoms were that of an even milder cold. Maybe that was one of the newer Omicron variants?

Zazdar · 17/06/2022 22:13

How do you know which you have?

ancientgran · 17/06/2022 22:22

I found out I'd had covid from a blood test, don't know which one or when. Then I got omicron in February and was very ill. Doctor said it was a coin toss if she'd leave me at home, I begged her to leave me at home as I couldn't bear the thought of being on a covid ward, listening to me coughing was bad enough and I can't imagine how hellish it would be with a ward of it.

I developed pneumonia and cracked a rib coughing. I was just sleeping or lying on the sofa for 8 weeks and then gradually started to improve. I'm still very tired and need to have breaks between doing jobs round the house, I'm still coughing but not really bad coughing. I'd say I'm probably 90% and hoping I get to 100% what I was.

I get anxiety attacks and that isn't something I've had before and I'm having nightmares which I don't normally have. I feel it has really taken a toll.

Hope you haven't got it.

Eightytwenty · 17/06/2022 23:53

Came looking to ask this question.

6 months after 2nd vaccine I got Delta (I assume) in October . Felt fine apart from a slight sore throat for a few days, then it shifted to my lungs and I felt really awful for another week - headaches, temperature, low o2 levels. Took a few weeks to be better.

6 months after booster I started feeling like I had a sore throat and was a bit coldy. Tested positive yesterday. Hope this time I don’t get the secondary infection.

Dishh · 18/06/2022 02:35

@ancientgran

I developed pneumonia and cracked a rib coughing

I don't have Covid, but a different horrid virus ATM that has developed into pneumonia, and I've also also cracked a rib coughing. I live in fear of having to cough, move, or go to the loo ... So I feel for you.

FromEden · 18/06/2022 03:01

I didn't have Delta but recently had my first covid infection, which I presume was omicron. I've had worse colds tbh. It was very mild.

ilovebagpuss · 18/06/2022 07:29

I've had every selection going (healthcare) and I'm on my 4th go. First in April 2020 pre vaccine was worst I assume this was Alpha?
I've had post vaccine Delta which was like a bad cold but unpleasant.
I'm now on what I assume is the new Omicron variant and I feel fucking awful. Streaming head cold, aches, sore throat, off feed. I'm usually pretty stoic but had to take to my bed last night at 7.

Babymamamama · 07/07/2022 16:27

I had delta which was a truly hideous flu where I couldn’t get out of bed for two weeks. Now I’ve got omicron I reckon. It’s different. I’m up and about. Can make food wash up etc. But I feel like a complete zombie. Sore throat, head aches, blocked sinuses, painful ears, spaced out. I’m hating every minute of it but would still take omicron over Delta any day of the week. One night this week my temp went up to 38.4 so I feel my body trying to kick it out but it’s hard work. I’m triple vaccinated so I dread to think what it would be like without that as this is bad enough. Still testing strongly positive on home tests on day 7 now so I am continuing to isolate as I wouldn’t want to pass this around.
