are people still testing with minimal symptoms?

Ds has a slight cough, mainly in the morning and evening after having very mild cold symptoms a few days ago. He is totally fine and not poorly in the slightest. He's had covid, I know this possibly be could be covid but he is autistic and testing him is hell, it could just be an average cold. I had a cold last week.

he had covid not too long ago too (I know you can get it again). He did not have a cough with covid. He's had so many coughs since covid and not once has it been covid, he got covid with no cough...

I know we are at a point where isolation and testing is not really a thing but if your child has an ever since slight cough or other symptoms are you still bothering with testing??

half term anyway so not like I'm sending him school with a cough. It's mainly morning and evening coughing, not during the day.

Absolutely not, Covid isn’t going anywhere, people are vaccinated, we just have to move on. Get your vaccines.. accept its mild for most people. And get on with life

Not with just a cough, though that's normal for my DS anyway. As an aside if it doesn't clear up soon may be worth seeing a doctor as a cough morning and evening can be a sign of asthma.

Never taken a test or had a vaccine, Covid isn’t going anywhere, people who want to be are vaccinated, three times! We just have to move on. Get your vaccines.. accept its mild for most people. And get on with life.

Yes, but I have a critically vulnerable person in the household. So we need to know to keep away from them (if it's not too late!) and if they get it to find out promptly so they can be assessed for antivirals.

It's not mild for everyone, so the responsible thing is still to avoid contact with others in the early days of an infection.

Also, evidence growing that immunity wanes considerably after about 4 months. As seasonality isn't clear, then we could see some rise in both numbers and in those who have moderate rather than mild) illness

I wouldn’t test for that. We have covid at the moment, I tested as I was feeling unwell, and was supposed to be going to an immersive theatre production this evening. Plus DS2 is sitting GCSEs next week abd I wanted to isolate him from everyone else.
I feel utterly crap!

I tested this week when I had a nasty cold and my son had the same with a high temperature. Test was negative, but if it was positive I would have worked from home until that changed.

We still have some tests in though- once they run out I won't be testing anymore because I'm too cheap to pay for them :)

Just not testing in this house- to be fair we have 3 adults here and have all had 3x vaccine. I had covid in April 2022 -just before restrictions were lifted. DH and DS did not catch it despite us all living in close proximity. I did the isolation period and did not go out until I tested negative on day 7. They both tested every day and had symptoms but were always negative.
DS and I have just had a shitty cold - but we have stopped testing now- we have all had enough. I work from home permanently as well - a bit surprised I was the one who got it! DS and DH both work outside the home and DS travels on the bus every day.
It has all started to feel bizarre now and we have all stopped thinking about covid- if we are are ill we are ill and keep away from others. We used to do this in 2019. Would still think twice if I was required to work from the office though- it used to be expected to 'crawl' into work unless your leg was hanging off.

No because it's mild enough now for all but the very vulnerable. And that is what flus are and most other colds. Did you go and get yourself test for the flu in other years because you had a sniffle. All this still testing is left over fear mongering. The testing and even lockdowns were needed at the beginning and for a while but past delta not needed. I fear that for the next few years anytime any cold beyond benign we will have certain groups jumping up and down for over the top restrictions. We have become scared of our own shadows and it needs to stop.
So no and I will not.

This exactly. Coronavirus is a cold virus and like all cold viruses it's doing it's job. That is getting milder but more contagious.

I tested this week because I was on holiday and had some cold symptoms. It wouldn't have made any difference if it was or wasn't covid, I wouldn't have told anyone. It was more just for my own peace of mind to know.
I have stacks of free tests so might as well use them!

I wouldn’t test in the circumstances you’ve described. We test weekly before visiting my mum as she is extremely vulnerable due to chemo - she isn’t bothered about us testing as has had 4 jabs but i prefer to have peace of mind when we go round as much as we can.

I had what I thought was a cold on Monday. I tested on Wedneaday morning because I was going home from holiday to see my inlaws. I was positive. Then I remembered not being able to taste caesar salad dressing on Monday night and thinking it was crap dressing. I'd sort of forgotten about covid, I'd have assumed a cold and normal half term tiredness.

No I'm not testing at all any more. I don't see that it helps to know what I've got if I'm ill. If I'm well enough to go out then I'll go out. If not I'll stay home. We are vaccinated, life has to go on.

I'm testing for anything slightly out of the ordinary, so any sniffle/cough/digestive issues etc. Particularly difficult at the moment because of hay fever and my medication having side effects which match the symptoms I've had with covid in the past. I'm testing maybe three or four times a week, plus always a few hours before I do my weekly injection of immunosuppressants.

Would have said no. But I did test my son last weekend, after he said his favourite squash tasted yuck. He lost his Nan the day before and had done nothing but sleep for 24hrs, I'd assumed as a result of the grief. But no, it never rains but it pours and he had covid.
Been testing myself since, and despite having symptoms of a very mild cold, I'm coming up negative. Keeping my distance from people outside the house in the same way I would if it's a cold (I don't like physical contact anyway so that's not an issue), but stopping testing now.

Tbh if it wasn't for little one saying his juice tested yuck, I wouldn't have thought twice about what I've got. I'm not ill in myself just a bit bunged up.

DH and I recently felt really quite ill and we did test - positive. Children have had coughs and colds and we didn’t test them, just assumed they had it. DH and I didn’t feel up to leaving the house for a few days anyway and then we just mainly stuck to outside things for a day or two until it was about a week since symptoms started and we’ve resumed normal life.
Luckily it was half term so we didn’t face any dilemma of what to do about school.

For just a cold I wouldn’t test - I’d be testing someone most weeks.

I had mild cold symptoms + tiredness, thought nothing of it. Day 4 I lost my sense of smell and taste and took a test. It was Covid-19 after all.

No, I had sort of forgotten about covid to be honest. I don’t test anymore abd behave as I used to for illnesses. I stay in if too unwell to go out, but otherwise carry on as normal. Same for everyone I know.

Some people had massive stockpiles, there was definite hoarding going on once it was announced the free ones were coming to an end. I don't have any. So we aren't testing. We'll stay in if too unwell to do normal activities and go out otherwise.

We didn’t have a massive stockpile exactly but probably one pack. Won’t be buying any further.

Only tested DH and myself because we were both very fluey and not up to leaving the house as normal anyway and felt, I suppose, we might as well know. I wouldn’t test for mild cold symptoms - with DH commuting on the tube and 2 young kids going to school and extra curriculars etc someone always has a mild cold symptom.
