Unbearable cough - insides hurting so much

Cantspeakpublic · 15/04/2022 16:53

Any help or advise. The cough is just so tickly that I can’t help it but my insides hurt so much it worries me but I can’t stop coughing.
It has given me a headache too but I’m more worried about how it’s making my insides feel. Should I worry about this? It’s ribs but also sharp pain lower down..

Ring 111 for proper medical advice.

Thanks yes I get what you are saying! I wasn’t thinking. Will do if I get extremely concerned definitely. Thanks, just wondered if anyone else had this. I’m in the middle as to be concerned or not at this stage .

I have this at the moment. Post Covid but not sure it is related as it is on going a month later. I’ve pulled the intercostal muscles coughing and it is so bloody painful. I’ve been on antibiotics then steroids and it’s only just starting to improve. Night time is the worst. Hope you feel better soon.

Cantspeakpublic · 15/04/2022 17:06

I will keep monitoring then. I’m surprised by the cough if I’m honest as it’s so tickley like someone has a feather in the throat it’s so awful. Def not in my chest like I thought it would be

Mine is an extreme tickly cough until I eventually clear the mucus ( too much info sorry) by which time I’m bent over clutching my ribs to prevent the pain. It’s fucking awful.

Cantspeakpublic · 15/04/2022 17:12

Lol but yes the same! Mucus out better then comes again. It really is awful!

Had the same for many weeks due to non covid infection. Was a hundred times worse than covid itself. I remember muscles aching, ribs aching, sharp pains in my groin area, etc etc. It’s over now! Get well soon!

Lovemusic33 · 15/04/2022 18:59

I was the same, today it’s eased a little but my ribs and chest feel bruised from all the coughing.

Roadtripconcept · 15/04/2022 19:20

I have had a terrible cough since Monday . My ribs hurt and I've pulled a muscle down my left side . I also get a horrible prickly stabbing sensation across my chest bone when I cough . It's like a cross between pins and needles and an electric shock . I have no idea what that is . I've certainly never experienced it before .
I have done a LFT every day and tested negative every time .
Either I'm just not getting a positive ... Or other viruses are available .

Cantspeakpublic · 15/04/2022 19:23

I have never had the pain lower down when I cough either! It’s very odd. I can understand the rib pain but the other pain (near my private’s tmi) is very odd!
I though the sore throat I had to start it was the worst I had ever had so I’m glad that’s magically disappeared but wish this cough would do too!

Codeine linctus is your friend here. I was in the same boat and it sorted me right out. Get a prescription quick smart!

Cantspeakpublic · 15/04/2022 19:37

Can you get it without the dr? Bank hol weekend isn’t helping.. is it ok for when you have covid?

In covid cough club too. Last three nights haven’t slept properly and immeasurably bored too as well as feeling horrendous!!

Coughing about every minute. Sore in oesophagus and chest but not low down.

I have tried benylin dry cough mixture, honey tea, throat lozenges and inhaler to no avail.

Any tips anyone for the cough to settle down??

Finfintytint · 16/04/2022 05:50

The only thing I found that helped with the coughing was to sleep propped upright with pillows as every time I lay flat my chest filled. Not comfortable but I did get a bit of sleep.

Tabitha789 · 16/04/2022 06:23

Have you got covid?

Cocothebear · 16/04/2022 07:23

I’ve got this! I had Covid over New Years so wasn’t expecting to get it again this soon let alone worse. I didn’t have a cough last time but this time it’s my main symptom and it’s brutal! I make a slope with 6 pillows to sleep on which is helping me get some sleep but it’s horrible because it’s a thickly cough but then it’s really chesty once you get going. Feels like an elephants sitting on my chest this morning. Hope everyone’s starts feeling better soon x

WhenTheNightFalls · 16/04/2022 08:58

DH had this. He was coughing for a whole month, continuously. Ended up pulling a rib which has been really sore.
He hasn't slept in months as the tickly cough you describe has been relentless. Even if propped up high on pillows, he is the same.

Sorry OP, I've only just seen this. Yes I had it when I had covid specifically for the cough. Try and get it if you can.. it's codeine in a liquid form and calms the cough reflex. You will need a prescription though
Anotherunimaginativeusername · 16/04/2022 17:48

You don't need a prescription for pholcodeine linctus, you can buy it over the counter in a pharmacy.

CorsicaDreaming · 16/04/2022 18:02

Another one to try is Buttercup Cough syrup.
Really old traditional remedy with squill but I find it really helps. Soothes the tickle.
I've currently got covid too, coughing but not as bad as you by sound of it, OP.

Pholcodine will suppress the cough, which if you've got mucus to cough up isn't always recommended - but if it's terrible you may want to try it.

I always think of Buttercup as a good halfway house.

CorsicaDreaming · 16/04/2022 18:04

You can get it in most pharmacies and big supermarkets off the shelf.

Buttercup Original Cough Syrup, 200ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001E1CVPG/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_75D0BK1ADH64KES5QC0Q

CorsicaDreaming · 16/04/2022 21:00

And I've suddenly remembered these - they really help soothe a tickly throat. But it needs to be this type to be really effective

Strepsils Extra Triple Action Blackcurrant Lozenges, 24 Lozenges https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001PMJ2P6/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_H5EYGT36D1BP9W3HMF4F

magicstar1 · 16/04/2022 21:03

I have this too but keep testing negative

Viviennemary · 16/04/2022 21:08

I agree with getting a cough medicine to soothe the tickle. I had this rib pain when I coughed but only for about three of four days. If yours lasts longer certainly contact your GP.

Cantspeakpublic · 16/04/2022 23:19

Great will try that in the meantime although it has settled a bit today (curse it am now coughing!!)
Yes I have covid 😊 the tickle is horrendous and without warning coming and going. Otherwise now I feel fine so I just need that to go now!!
