How many negative lft did you get before a positive?

I've got a sore scratchy throat, woke up could barely speak. Slight fever and a little cough.

Did a test negative, I guess it could be something else. I'll keep testing whilst I have symptoms I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

The LFTs have been extremely accurate for my family. As soon as symptoms started the LFTs were positive.

Lougle · 01/04/2022 07:33

Started with a sore throat Thursday or Friday last week. Coughing slightly but thought it was scratchy irritation on Saturday night. LFTs negative. Did PCR Tuesday, positive result on Wednesday. LFTs turned positive on Thursday.

Lougle · 01/04/2022 07:34

That's Thursday as in yesterday. So around one week.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 01/04/2022 07:38

I tested positive on Monday with symptoms, DH has same symptoms and is still testing negative 🤷‍♀️

alwayswrighty · 01/04/2022 07:40

I've had those symptoms since last week. Tested every other day. Still no positive covid and I'm beginning to feel better. I'm thinking this is genuinely a shitty cold.

Positive 2 days after the most annoying cough ever, assumed I must be positive as felt awful this morning. 2 positive on flowflex and 1 negative on a different brand this morning. Very reassuring 🙄. Because of my work I need a PCR but fell pretty awful at the moment.

StrangeAddiction · 01/04/2022 08:27

I had contact with my nana who was getting out of hospital on Tuesday, got an email to say she was positive Wednesday morning. I started coughing last night so took an lft - although it was a nasal test I still swabbed my tonsils which came back positive, I also took just a nasal swab which was negative until my nasal swab this morning which shows a faint positive.
I was a bit achey yesterday in my leg which I'm having problems with so didn't think too much of it until I started coughing like I had an irritant now I've got a scratchy throat and that feeling goes up towards the back of my nose area

TypicaIMe · 01/04/2022 08:39

With my last bout of covid three/four weeks ago it took over a week to test positive. We were all really unwell with the same symptoms but despite daily testing for me (I'm immunosuppressed so was being extra careful), I was resolutely negative for ages. Even after DD and DH went positive.

Anecdotally I'm hearing that this is happening for loads of people, which might explain why so many people are catching it currently. If you're negative you'll just go about your business (I did, until it was confirmed in the house). Maybe it's something about this strain which is delaying a positive result?

WildFlowerBees · 01/04/2022 09:15

Still negative today, I had a mild sore throat on Monday tues woke up it was scratchy. Sore throat has gone but I have what seems a head cold I feel very stuffed up.

I'm keeping myself to myself for now but have to go to work on Monday so I'm hoping it's not covid.

Husband had it, DS1 had it, I had horrible scratchy sore throat and tiredness, tested negative for 2 days, then an instant strong positive on the third.

NewYearEveryYear · 01/04/2022 09:56

DH and I both did LFTs last Saturday - we did then because I had general symptoms (achey, itchy throat, very tired).

DH was instantly positive (despite having very little in the way of symptoms).

I was negative.

DH has remained positive until today (6 days later).

I continue to test negative (despite horrible symptoms including nausea, headache, hot eyeballs, racing heart, heavy chest, cough, congestion).

I've done a PCR. Just to know whether this is 'it' so I have some idea of my immunity for the next couple of months.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 01/04/2022 11:39

My tonsils felt odd one night, the next day I got a strong positive.

Snotty mess now.

WildFlowerBees · 01/04/2022 14:27

Got my positive just now after 5 days, I decided to swab my throat and nose. Faint line so hopefully I'm on the other side of it soon.

I got my first positive four days after symptoms started. Didn't test negative again till day 13 (yesterday) and still feel awful and under the weather.

CheshireChat · 01/04/2022 14:33

I had a negative PCR, negative LFTs (2) and then all of them positive.

KilljoysDutch · 01/04/2022 14:38

3rd day after symptoms for me. Didn't even occur to me I was actually properly unwell woke up with a nasty headache on the first night, second night I woke up with a fever and aching hips and knees tested the next afternoon and got a faint line. DH got a slightly darker line but had no real signs. Triple vaccinated and now day after my fever apart from a bit of a scratchy throat I feel fine.

stopringingme · 01/04/2022 15:51

DD tested positive Tuesday. was only poorly for one day but still has a bit of a cough.
I have done LFT every day since as I was coughing and sneezing etc and these were negative and today got a very strong positive.
Feels like a head cold at the moment.

WildFlowerBees · 01/04/2022 16:00

Also feels like a head cold @stopringingme headache comes and goes, slight cough and stuffy head. Thankful it appears to be mild.

I’ve done 5 lfts and a pcr, still negative but have identical symptoms to DS who is positive. DP had positive pcr today but has absolutely no symptoms

Lougle · 01/04/2022 20:00

Interesting change to the guidance now:

"Children and young people aged 18 years and under who have a positive test result
It is not recommended that children and young people are tested for COVID-19 unless directed to by a health professional."

So DD1's school know I have Covid and say she needs a negative lateral flow before she attends. The official guidance seems to say different.

Also, if children and young people test positive for Covid they are only recommended to stay home for 3 days, but they don't recommend testing, so they won't get a positive test, will they?

Dovesofpeace · 01/04/2022 20:35

Over Xmas one of the experts was saying that it could be negative in the morning and positive in the evening as the viral load grows.

Stressypantsagain · 01/04/2022 21:11

Had about a week of sore throat, croaky voice and generally feeling crap. All LFT negative, I work for NHS so did a pcr, it was positive and i have now had 2 positive lft's

Nomad916 · 01/04/2022 22:09

My LFT remained negative after my positive PCR

LizzieSiddal · 01/04/2022 22:15

I’ve had similar symptoms as you OP since Tuesday, am testing negative but today as well as head cold, and aches I’ve started feeling nauseous and coughing. Will take another test tomorrow.
