Can Covid start slowly?

My DD10 is currently at home on day 7 of Covid, still testing strongly positive but symptoms pretty much gone.

I've been cooped up at home with her pretty much the whole time.

I've been doing LFT daily and all negative, but for the past few days I've had a mild sore throat and on/off mild sinusy headache, stuffy nose and watery eyes. Very mild symptoms, barely symptoms at all.

I'm wondering whether this is my body trying to fight off the Covid virus (and succeeding so far), or whether I have contracted Covid and it's just starting gradually.

I know no one can really tell me what's going on inside my body, but has anyone else experienced this, and which way has it gone?

Reading this with interest as I saw my mum last Saturday and she tested positive on Monday. Have had what feels like a cold since Tuesday/Wednesday but all LFTs negative. Have booked a PCR for this afternoon (Zoe app recommended after I inputted my symptoms). Have been staying in just in case. DD and DH both had a cold last week (all LFTs negative) so not sure if I have their cold or Covid.

BlackInk · 18/03/2022 11:37

LFT negative again this morning. I still have v mild headache/throat symptoms. DD still positive on Day 8.

Negative here but our DD had a pretty strong line on LFT today (which admittedly I did a bit more thoroughly) on day 6, which is annoying given yesterday's was really faint Sad

HSHorror · 18/03/2022 12:14

I was in contact almost 2w ago now. Ive had the weirdest completely blocked nose for 2 days now. Nothing else (i was masked)

Secretname123 · 18/03/2022 13:42

DD is on day 8 of covid and I am still testing negative but was feeling really rough earlier in week. Not cold symptoms but I felt like I did after my vaccines- headache, dizzy, so tired and achy I could barely walk and really breathless. Also my glands were up and I had a manky taste in mouth. I decided I must be fighting off covid without testing positive. I felt so bad I even did a PCR. I feel much better now and still negative.

BusyBeaMe · 18/03/2022 19:18

@Secretname123 that’s just how I feel too, without the breathlessness. Very mild but more of a post vaccine feeling. No cold symptoms either.

Secretname123 · 18/03/2022 19:51

Have you tested positive?

SummersBreeze · 18/03/2022 20:21

@Secretname123

Have you tested positive?
I am not the original poster but I am in a similar situation.

It seems as if whatever dose I have is getting milder. The sore throat is gone. I still have some little coughs.

I tested again this evening and it's definitely a negative. About 20 minutes after dripping the solution into the disc, I took the disc cartridge apartment to shine a light at the back of it. I still can't find a second line.

TulipsGarden · 18/03/2022 20:24

When my son had it in January I had the same - slight sore throat, headache and felt a bit yuck for a couple of days. Never had a positive on my daily LFT, and I was only five weeks post-booster so presumably had good immunity. I assume my body fought it off successfully.

BeanStew22 · 18/03/2022 20:28

You might get luck and escape it OP, some do

My symptoms were mild for a good week the second week was worse

Either way, help your body fight it off: eat well (including plenty of protein & carbs), supplements esp vit D & b vitamins, rest and sleep as much as possible

BigButtons · 18/03/2022 20:28

I did lfts every other day for a week because I had a sore throat, extreme fatigue and sneezing like crazy. All negative .last Saturday I woke up feeling a bit worse so did another one- positive. I had had symptoms for a week before I tested positive.

RuthW · 18/03/2022 20:49

I'm on day 13 of feeling ill. Cold symptoms, dreadful cough, sore throat, no voice etc. PCR neg and neg LFTs for 13 days now.

Either there is another nasty bug around or a strain of covid tests don't work for.

BusyBeaMe · 19/03/2022 16:14

@BigButtons I’m thinking I’ve had this longer than the positives too. Been feeling really tired for over a week and had the no voice:cough bug but tested negative. This is a different kind of feeling ill. Can’t quite pinpoint it- day 3 and butterflies, chesty cough but only when I think about coughing, spaced out and sore throat. Cocodamol is helping the head

sleighbellsjiggling · 19/03/2022 16:38

I tested positive on Thursday pm after testing neg that morning. I've felt exhausted for the last week but didn't think anything of it until I woke up after a rare nap feeling awful.
I've had about a day of feeling rubbish but have perked right up today.
I need to test DC but it's always such a nightmare to get them to do it. They're very sneezy and snotty but otherwise fine so I assume they have it too. They're 2 and 4 and are now terrified of being swabbed after doing so many.
I'll have to check them before preschool if I'm negative by then but I doubt I will be somehow

SummersBreeze · 19/03/2022 16:44

Day 4 of symptoms that feel like a heavy cold. Still testing negative on the lft. I did 2 today. One in the morning at about 8 and another at 4. Both negative.

SummersBreeze · 19/03/2022 16:47

My appetite is humongous but due to isolating in my room I am not able to eat the fridge clean.

BusyBeaMe · 19/03/2022 20:18

Every 12 hours a new symptom comes and another goes! Headache and dizziness gone, now cold, cough and no voice.

DS4 looks like he’s going down with it now. He’s asked to go to bed early and also for some calpol for his headache.

Guidance wise, are we isolating until the end of day 6, based on negative tests on days 5 and 6?

BigButtons · 19/03/2022 21:21

@BusyBeaMe that is the guidance but no one seems to get that elusive negative.

LadyMacduff · 19/03/2022 21:33

I had a tickly cough on Weds and tested positive that evening. I probably would not have bothered but my son was coughing to the point where it was keeping him awake and that was what made me think something was up.

I've felt steadily rougher each day. I'm up and about but my chest is achey. Nose was runny yesterday but not today. Ears are ringing.

RagzRebooted · 20/03/2022 15:30

I've been wondering this as I've had a few days of wierd symptoms, then a few days feeling fine, then ill again (headache, swollen glands, feeling like a fever but no actual fever) then fine, then ill again. On and off for 10 days. 2 negative PCR tests and daily negative LFT and yet all 3 DC have had positive LFTs in the last 10 days.

I'm sure I actually had covid but don't shed virus, like the opposite of a super spreader! Or it's psychological. Who knows. Everyone at work was saying I look pale and convinced I have covid!

Jules912 · 20/03/2022 15:54

My DH did (though he may have really been on day 6 or 7 as had a tickly throat a couple of days before his first positive). I on the other hand still have a test line so solid it's black on day 8. I'm not jealous at all. Honest.

BigButtons · 20/03/2022 16:04

@Jules912 yes that seems to be the fate of most people☹️

BlackInk · 20/03/2022 18:12

I’m still testing negative on LFTs but sore throat is worse today and glands under ears a bit painful. DD finally tested negative today on Day 10. I do wonder whether doing daily LFT has irritated my throat….

Ive had faint Positive tests since last Wednesday , then yesterday i did another test and it was a dark red Positive. I feel lousy today. Its also dark red today...was thinking im on day 6 but not sure now. Has anyone had this happen?

Jules912 · 22/03/2022 14:27
@Jules912 yes that seems to be the fate of most people☹️
The lines a bit fainter today (day 10 from symptoms) but still darker than my day 1 line. I'm assuming I'll still be positive when I'm allowed out tomorrow which just feels wrong.
