I am in work with someone coughing. She had a light cold last week and had a faint positive over the weekend. She thinks her exposure was last week on Monday. So today is her 7th or 8th day and she's back to work but she's coughing. She came back to work because the antigen test showed up as a negative. She does do the antigen tests properly. She digs the pipe cleaner right on up her nose.

She's in shared spaces coughing all day.

I'm straved alive but she's in the kitchen and I can't get my lunch because she's coughing.

Exposure day isnt when you count from- you count from first symptoms or positive test. So guidance (england) is that she should still be isolating and start lft on day 5 and then release if negative on both day 5 and 6.

SummersBreeze · 15/03/2022 14:41

She had a light cold on Wednesday or Thursday. She continued to come into work because it was just a cold and her home antigen tests were negative. Then she had a faint positive over the weekend.

Wed
Thurs
Fri
Sat
Sun
Mon

Today would be her 7th day.

She's back in work coughing

Guidance is to do 2 lft on consecutive days, starting on days 5 and 6 and if they clear then she can return to work. If she’s still coughing I would ask her to wear a mask and also wear one myself.

My son started symptoms on Wednesday, school said earliest he could come back was today if he had 2 negative tests ( he didn't) so it's possible her dates work. Apparently the cough can last for a while after.
SummersBreeze · 15/03/2022 15:00

Thank you for the replies and to you too Jules. It's so nerve wrecking knowing that there is a positive with symptoms so close to me. I can feel nerves in the pits of my stomach.

Are you fully vaccinated?
Had it in the past?

implantreplace · 15/03/2022 15:03

What is your company’s policy if employee says they have a positive (not that they are obliged to)

implantreplace · 15/03/2022 15:04

* Apparently the cough can last for a while after.*

And apparently a cough can just be… a cough
A chest infection
A multitude of viruses

implantreplace · 15/03/2022 15:05

She’s obviously very open with her business
Or you are friends?

TulipsGarden · 15/03/2022 15:08

She might still be infectious, but probably not very. I would wear a mask and hope for the best.

I am fully vaccinated Never had covid

Newly diagnosed with a gut condition so I am worried if I get covid, it might aggreviate any inflammation in my body.

Post Covid coughs can last for ages. If she's negative on LFT then she's probably not infectious. However it would be more thoughtful of her to keep herself to herself as much as possible.

We are close.

I'm petrified of her coughing in case it's still covid and in case she is still infectious.

The social distancing is being maintained. I'm keeping calm around her.

On one hand I am not nervous any more about covid but then on the other hand I am a little bit. Its just I spent two years running away from this virus and now it's nearly here at my door.

So she’s had two consecutive negative LFT tests on day 5 and day 6? I think in that case she’s right to be there and you are at very low risk.

Generally coughs can last for a very long time once you’ve irritated the throat. Up to six months in some cases, but I would expect less than that with a light cold.

Leftbutcameback · 15/03/2022 15:22

Also OP is your gut condition an immune related one which might mean that you could get additional medication if you were to test positive? Worth finding out it that’s the case. I know some people who had the third full dose are also in that position. Those of us who were CEV but only got the booster dose didn’t get a letter about it.

I am eating healthy with added supplements and I added in more holistic measures in case I contract covid with symptoms. I am not able for sickness. My morning smoothie was filled with ginger and other power foods.

You’re close
Concerned about your gut issue

Can you not talk to her and express your concerns and ask her to be very thoughtful around you

And what is your company’s policy re sick pay for COVID?

It's not an auto immune condition unless if there's something else going on that hasn't been picked up yet. Lupus was hinted at me in a support group based on some symptoms I have. So far the condition I have is diverticulosis and when that flares it's diverticulitis. That's a condition of the colon.

I reckon if I get covid I will be hit hard in my tummy and bum.

I had covid without realising and only spread on the day before I tested positive. I had tons of close contact (shouty bar exposure) 2 days before and didn’t give it to anyone. I also met up in close contact the day I tested positive (went out before I knew) and didn’t give it to them either.

I’ve had covid too, and did have an upset stomach. I have IBS. It was otherwise luckily mild. Hope you stay well as possible OP.

Leftbutcameback · 15/03/2022 16:33

I should also say that no one else caught it in my house when I had it despite very close contact!

I had problems with my tummy for years. For well over a decade. I never got it medically investigated thinking it was period and ovulation cramps. A lot of my issues could be IBS stuff - tummy contractions needing toilet, pain, cramps, cold aggreviates my tummy, certain foods. I never got any of it investigated til last year and I found a fever and diverticulosis was found.

I am anxious about my tummy and I think I will probably get sick in my tummy if I get covid. I am so sick of listening to people writing off covid as a mild cold when it's not for other people.
