Is this Covid again?

Dd2 had Covid on 24th Jan. Was quite unwell, headache/temp/terrible cough etc. from Feb 2nd was testing completely clear.
Now dh, dd1 and I are all positive. Dd2 has been daily testing over the last week since it’s been back in the house although she’s on half term this week. This morning she tested and it looks like there’s a line again. Do you see a line? Could she really have it again so soon after just having had it? Should add, she’s only had a single vaccine due to her age and was booked to have her second 3 days after testing positive 🥴
Maybe we’re imagining the second line?

Is this Covid again?

Just to add, I know people can get it twice, I’m just surprised if she has managed to catch it again so quickly as I presumed she would still have relatively high immunity from a few weeks ago!

My brother had it twice, once in October and again in January. Yes that's what it looks like ...

Oh God - you can get it again that quickly??? DS2 also got Covid on 24th Jan and now has a temp and feels grotty. I'm going to have to test him, aren't I? Argh!!!

My 10 year old DD tested positive 25 days apart in January. Spoke with GP and PHA and they said with new variants time for reinfection is getting shorter. They suggested a PCR to confirm second positive lateral flow - PCR was positive. So going by her symptoms they reckon it was Delta first time and Omni the second time.

My son tested positive 6 weeks apart.

Different symptoms both times. I guess it's the different strains.

Why though? I didn't bother doing a PCR for my son. There's no actual need to.

Because I don’t want to make her isolate again unless she definitely has it! She’s already isolated once and her mental health is at an all time low. She’s taking medication to help her keep a bit more balanced and a lot less suicidal and I really worry that her not being able to go out and enjoy her half term like she was due to will knock her. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanted to be sure.
If it was any of the rest of us I don’t think I’d bother.

Pcrs are void now. You just go by a latetal flow.

That's an odd way of going round the houses, but ok I guess.

Did one of you do the test with her and maybe it is positive due to how you handled the test kit?

She did it in her room on her own, I don’t think it’s cross contamination. She’s in the bath at the moment, I’ll ask her if she wants to do another one when she gets out.

In your situation OP, with Covid in the house and cross-contamination possible, I would definitely want to get a PCR for her. You really don't want to have to put her back in isolation unless absolutely necessary.

She’s got a day out tomorrow with her grandmother booked for her birthday back in November which we’ve already had to reschedule once Confused

They aren't void. They are just unnecessary, or not required.

I feel the opposite to you, if tomorrows LFT was negative then I would assume she was free to go.

But a PCR because all set in stone so would avoid that.

I wouldn't be saying that if it was a blazing, obvious positive test of course.

The problem is, a PCR will likely be positive due to old infection anyway. LFTs are less likely to show a false positive. Do another LFT. Get a good sample.

Do another LFT, I had one freak faint line in the middle of a run of daily negatives, I retested an hour later and it was negative. No idea what was going on.

A PCR can pick up fragments from the proteins which are no longer active and give a positive read, which can be misleading because the person does not have live covid at that point. A PCR may pick up her legitimate infection from last month.

Definitely positive. I had one like that. Did another test straight away but was a bit more thorough with the swab and then got a strong positive. Sorry OP.

I would do another LFT but also...does she actually have any symptoms? If not in all honesty I am not sure it's advised to even test her when she's just had it? Is that the guidance now, test anyway even if you've just recovered and have no symptoms but live with someone with it? I thought they said leave it for 90 days unless new symptoms appear. If she is really anxious about it all is there any point in telling her? I would argue she is unlikely to be infectious if she's very recently had it, unless she has symptoms obviously. I'm not saying I would send her out for day out with grandma though!

Oh and I can see the line btw, I do think it looks positive although my DH has had these faint positives twice (both times he had Covid, because we in the house did too) and was unwell (mildly) but PCR was negative both times so I no longer know what to think about it all. He isolated because he felt ill and felt it was right but if he had a job where he had to physically go in he would have had to but thankfully he is permanently WFH!
