Is this Covid again?

Dd2 had Covid on 24th Jan. Was quite unwell, headache/temp/terrible cough etc. from Feb 2nd was testing completely clear.
Now dh, dd1 and I are all positive. Dd2 has been daily testing over the last week since it’s been back in the house although she’s on half term this week. This morning she tested and it looks like there’s a line again. Do you see a line? Could she really have it again so soon after just having had it? Should add, she’s only had a single vaccine due to her age and was booked to have her second 3 days after testing positive 🥴
Maybe we’re imagining the second line?

Is this Covid again?

I would get a PCR in this case. She could still test positive on an LFT for 90 days, that's why they say you won't need to do them (in normal circumstances). The only way to tell for sure is a PCR. If you don't want her to have one, she'll have to isolate.

BlackInk · 17/02/2022 16:26

Do you think the rest of you who now have it caught it from your DD? If so, surely she can't have caught exactly the same variant back again so soon!? If you've got good reason to think the rest of you picked it up from somewhere else then I guess that makes it more likely...

popsickle555 · 17/02/2022 16:44

@blackink good point!! Has you DD perhaps passed it to you OP?! That would make more sense but I know it's a long lag time...we had this though recently, across the house (4 of us) in 3 weeks. Very annoying!

Mymincepie · 17/02/2022 16:46

@WhatAHexIGotInto it's the other around. She could test positive on PCR for 90 says. Not LFT.

Beachbabe1 · 17/02/2022 16:48

@TheChosenTwo

Sorry *@Beachbabe1* - can I ask what you mean by PCR’s being void? I’ve been able to book one!
When my husband called to book one recently, he was told they arent being offered anymore and he should go by the lateral flow result.
pucelleauxblanchesmains · 17/02/2022 16:48

You definitely shouldn't do a PCR, you're supposed to avoid them for 90 days after infection. I really feel for your DD, I also have mental health problems so isolation has been like a living hell for me & of course with the end of free testing/isolation very soon this will all be moot!

WhatAHexIGotInto · 17/02/2022 17:09

@Beachbabe1 I had a PCR test this morning. I have symptoms and my work dictates that I should have a PCR if I have symptoms. They go by the LFT if no symptoms.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 17/02/2022 17:32

@zafferana Love your user name. Not that dissimilar to mine, really!

Fresh01 · 17/02/2022 18:10

Does she have any new symptoms? My DD had developed a new cough which is why we did the lateral flow on her despite it being less than a month from her first positive tests.

It’s the other way round Smile you can only test positive on LFT with an active infection. PCR can show fragments of old but no longer active infection. That’s why not advised to do PCRs within 90 days of an infection.
Jules912 · 17/02/2022 22:01

It could be but I'd do another one, ideally with another brand of test if you've got one. My DS sometimes gets faint lines like this and when we've got a follow up PCR it's been negative even when there was Covid in the house ( now we just try to use a different brand!)

Hollyhead · 17/02/2022 22:05

Surely if you’ve all got it she doesn’t need to isolate? Just not go out for a few days.

BBCONEANDTWO · 17/02/2022 22:08

I was told not to test for 28 days after after I was infected as it can still sometimes show false positives. I thought that was the norm.

Northernsoullover · 17/02/2022 22:10

I've heard that reinfection will be common with stealth omicron..I'll see if I can find a decent source to back up my anecdata.

rosie1959 · 17/02/2022 22:16

You are advised not to do a PCR within 90 days as a good chance it could be positive from previous infection

DirtyDancing · 17/02/2022 23:14

Afraid to say a number of children at school here are now getting it either for a second time, so a gap of around 6-8 weeks from first covid or they don't seem to be clearing the infection sufficiently and testing positive, with symptoms again very quickly after.

Abraxan · 17/02/2022 23:22

The number of people who still test positive for that long is actually fairly low. And as each day/week passes the likelihood reduces even more.

Some people can test positive for that long but most don't.

Lushmetender · 18/02/2022 10:52

My dd just tested positive but 5 months between bouts. This is her 6th viral infection since sept! Pain in arse!
