Tested positive and haven’t had the vaccine

I tested positive this morning.

I didn’t have the vaccine because I was TTC and was worried about the side effects. I know it was silly. But I felt just way at the time.

Now I’m kicking myself as I’m positive and very anxious about being unvaccinated. I know most will say I brought it on myself, but I can’t help the panic 🙁

I’m 32, slightly overweight and female with no underlying health conditions that I know of.

There are two variants that are predominant at the moment Delta and Omicron so this also effects the experience people have
It's about 1% delta & 99% omicron by now. Not sure of the exact figures but any infection caught in this country is also certainly omicron at the moment.

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 11:04

Thanks, strangely I have been peeing a lot. But that might be because I’m trying to keep up with my fluids.

I’ve got an oximeter, my oxygen is 98-99% sometimes dipping to 97 but my heart rate is in the late 90s, is that because I’m ill? Like your heart rate rises when fighting a virus or when you have a fever.

OP posts:
CovidCorvid · 06/02/2022 11:07

Your pulse might be faster as it could be working harder to keep your oxygen levels up. But the fact that your oxygen levels are still good is reassuring.

Please get the vaccine after you’ve recovered. The side effects of catching it when pregnant if you’re ttc aren’t great for some.

Veryvversatile · 06/02/2022 11:09

The fact that you even have to write this is quite sad.

Millions of people who aren't vaccinated will catch it and be fine. I feel like Covid has brought about a huge amount of memory loss for people. There was no vaccination during the first wave. The survival rate was over 98%.

Even if you are overweight, it doesn't have to mean you will suffer greatly, of course it increases your risk, but hopefully you will just have a few mild symptoms, be unwell for a short period and your body will fight it off.

If you look around you will see that vaccinated people also can become very ill, and they can die too. It is a false sense of security to think vaccination guarantees you won't get it, or you won't be ill and you can't die from it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/02/2022 11:12

Och you’ll be fine.

Go and get it though.

Dentistsinthefreemarket · 06/02/2022 11:13

Veryvversatile

Do stop spreading anti vaxx nonsense please.

ElleGB · 06/02/2022 11:19

If your oxygen drops below 96, call for advice. 94 or below go to hospital.

You’ll be fine x

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 11:27

I think I need new batteries for my oximeter, it just showed 81 oxygen! I know I’m not that bad as I can hold a conversation ! It does only have 1 bar or battery. I’ll have to order some from Amazon prime or see if my in laws will drop some off on the doorstep

OP posts:
Cookerhood · 06/02/2022 11:33

Check it again. Not being aware of bring short of breath is one of the weird things with Covid. Just because the battery is low doesn't mean it would read wrong. Have a walk around, take a few deep breaths & do it again. Look up "happy hypoxia" & phone 111 if you are unsure.

countrylady2 · 06/02/2022 11:38

I have just recovered from covid without the vaccine and took supplements to help aid my recovery. I hope you get better soon.

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 11:43

@Cookerhood just took again and 99%, dropped to 96 briefly, then back up.

OP posts:
Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 11:44

@countrylady2 can I ask what supplements you took please?

OP posts:
Veryvversatile · 06/02/2022 12:00

@Dentistsinthefreemarket what is anti-vax that I said? I find that to be very offensive and I’ve never been called that so please don’t tarnish me with that.

I’ve had my vaccines, and boosted, so I’m not sure that makes me opposed to vaccination. I’m just trying to make OP see that there is no panic because she is not vaccinated. They keep the majority of us out of the hospital, but there are people who aren’t protected by vaccines or anything else sadly. Vaccinated people catch Covid too, is that not a fact?

countrylady2 · 06/02/2022 12:01

@Harecaughtinheadlights I took vitamin C, D, zinc, lysine and quercetin. Lysine and quercetin gets rid of viruses. I also took a multivitamin. I stayed off processed foods and sugar. I drank lots of water. I did bowls of fruit, smoothies and had vegetables. It was hard to do with lack of energy but by doing this I was able to gain strength from the nutrients.

CherryBlossomCheer · 06/02/2022 12:01

I’m unvaccinated and have had far worse colds and flu. I’m a similar age to you, do have underlying health issues but not overweight.

DP double vaccinated has been much more badly affected than me. He’s very fit, regular gym goer and no health issues.

You’re young and there’s every chance you’ll be absolutely fine. If you had the same symptoms with a cold/ flu you probably wouldn’t be so panicked, try not to obsess about the fact it’s covid.

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 12:31

@countrylady2 where do I get lysine from?

OP posts:
okthx · 06/02/2022 12:33

I had covid when vaccines were not available at all and am the same as you as per description. I had no panic at all, what are you panicking about? Chances are covid will be mild for you like for most people.

toomuchlaundry · 06/02/2022 12:36

Is your partner there to help?

stripeyflowers · 06/02/2022 12:37

@Dontforgetyourbrolly

I think it's really bad that people who have made their own decision have been made to feel they have " brought it on themselves " please get out of that mind set . You've caught a virus that is rife around the whole world , nothing you have done wrong . I doubt very much you'll suffer fatal consequences. I'd had 2 jabs when I caught it and I still felt really rough so don't beat yourself up . Get well soon OP Flowers
Well said.
WonderfulYou · 06/02/2022 12:41

I kicked myself as I hadn’t had my booster and I felt quite ill compared to normal colds. I was dizzy, had a headache and vomiting.

But honestly I would try not to worry.
You’ll feel rough for a couple of days and then it will start easing.

I’ve never had an oximeter and I don’t think you need one as you’ll know if you feel really ill or not.

Take a day or 2 to have an excuse to laze about as much as you can, watching Netflix and ordering takeaway. Let your DH do most of the work.

countrylady2 · 06/02/2022 12:56

@Harecaughtinheadlights Amazon sells Lysine but it is sometimes listed as L-Lysine. I only suggest Amazon as if you have Prime as it will come quickly. There will be other supplement websites who sell this. The brand I have is Viridian. The more mg in the supplement the stronger it will help work.

canigooutyet · 06/02/2022 13:02

Don't kick yourself..
Your HR might be elevated because you are worrying about having CV.
You didn't do this to yourself, have you not read the threads from those who are fully up to date including all the boosters and still got it?

I've had it twice now. At the very beginning and recently. I'm also very vulnerable to this as well as other viruses due to a number of health issues. I'm also not vaccinated due to consultant advice.

Don't worry about the short term fever. Even with a common cold these can be very normal and then only need medical attention for the healthy if over 38.5 for 3 or more days.

chubley · 06/02/2022 13:08

Omicron is much more of an upper respiratory tract infection than the previous variants - not many people get it in the lungs. So although many people feel rough for a couple of days (even if fully jabbed), this is for most people, feeling unwell in a head cold sense - as others say, headache, sinusy, sore throat, runny nose.

Take care and take it easy.

mulberrybag5 · 06/02/2022 13:19

You’ve done nothing wrong. You made the decision at the time that was best for you. Rest, rest and rest snd stay off google! Xxx

Harecaughtinheadlights · 06/02/2022 17:24

How common are blood clots with the omicron variant? This is one of my big concerns.
