Any medicines that helped keep symptoms mild?

I've tested positive this morning 😭

I'm jabbed & boosted & taking vit D & a multivitamin, but I'm the most overweight, (very), I've ever been after a difficult year. Any advice on supplements or other things that help get through it would be great thanks 😁

I was going to suggest a high dose vitamin D but I see you are already taking it.

Hope you are OK.

LibbyR79 · 25/01/2022 13:10

Definitely have paracetamol and drink at hand. I had a terrible temperature last night and had forgotten to put any by my bed, felt too poorly and freezing to go downstairs, I forced myself eventually. I definitely won't make that mistake tonight. It's great you're vaccinated, so even if you feel rough I'm sure you'll be OK 💐 x

buckeejit · 25/01/2022 13:21

Thanks, have started a covid meds basket & will keep it by the bed.

Hope you're not too bad @LibbyR79

Currently binging crap Netflix series in bed & hoping this is as best as it gets 💐

I have an awful cough with sore throat on day 2 and Jakemans honey and lemon menthol sweets are honestly so soothing! Better than any cough medicine. That and paracetamol 1000mg every 4 hours.
Unfortunately I can’t have much else as I am 23 weeks pregnant.
Take care x

ThisMustBeMyDream · 25/01/2022 14:04

Sudafed was helpful for my runny nose.

I've got covid eyes now, feels like a mix between conjunctivitis and blepharitis (both of which I've had in the past!). If anyone has any tips beyond chloramphenicol and eye compresses I'd be eternally grateful. It is so painful!

Greenandcabbagelooking · 25/01/2022 14:06

I'm mainlining hot water, root ginger, lemon juice and honey. It's probably just warm and soothing, but I feel a bit better (Day 4 in the covid house)

Twizbe · 25/01/2022 14:07

There's a clinical trial going for the antiviral they've developed.

I don't know the details but if you Google it you might find it. They send you the drugs in the post and go from there.

beautifullymad · 25/01/2022 14:07

If you are overweight I'd get a private home test kit for your vitamin D levels.

The problem with extra adipose tissue is it binds the active vitamin D so it can't be used.
Your results may surprise you and you may find you need a lot more daily than you think. I was prescribed 800IU initially from my GP.
I'm now taking 2,500IU. 4,000IU is the safe daily maximum.

That would be my advice to prepare your body.

ChillysWaterBottle · 25/01/2022 14:09

Orange juice and crunchy peanut butter. Something to do with the Vitamin C and Zinc (I think). Feel better soon x

gogohm · 25/01/2022 14:25

I took ibroprofen and drank honey and lemon tea, this was March 2020 so no residual immunity or vaccine - we were fine, for me it was just hours, for dp it was two days. We are both overweight and middle aged. Please try not to worry

gogohm · 25/01/2022 14:26

But I swear by Vicks if you have a cough, and bronchostop

UpEarly · 25/01/2022 14:27

Lemsips got me through it! Highly recommend. Hope you’re ok.

Delatron · 25/01/2022 14:35

This is anecdotal but the only symptom I had was fatigue. I didn’t develop a cough/sore throat/fever.

I took: high dose vitamin c (up to 2-3gper day in 2 doses) Basically up to bowel tolerance. Which is safe. This was recommended by a doctor friend.
Vitamin D3.

I also took (after research: quercetin and NAC. Both anti inflammatory. Can’t harm you and may help with inflammation in the body.

I was very thirsty too so drank a ton of water.

Delatron · 25/01/2022 14:37

Check your vitamin D dose is high enough (not just one in supplement). Good idea to get levels checked when you can. You can do a postal test.

Delatron · 25/01/2022 14:37

I mean not just a vitamin D as part of a multivitamin

buckeejit · 25/01/2022 14:41

Thanks all, this is very helpful 😁

Thank you for the recommendation, I've stocked up on Jakemans.

I'm on day 3. Paracetamol and Bronchas Stop cough medicine are helping me (I'm coughing up phlegm otherwise). I feel fine during the day then horrendous at night so I'm trying to stay up right as much as possible. I'm about 7 stone overweight.

WarriorN · 25/01/2022 19:44

At times today it's been ibu that's been more helpful than paracetamol.

It's come on in waves and gone again.

I then got INCREDIBLY hungry which might be body giving itself its own medicine!

theDudesmummy · 25/01/2022 19:49

Terrible sore throat, used anaesthetic throat spray to good effect. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for headache but they are not completely shifting it. I always take vit D anyway. Turmeric with pepper extract.

Spudina · 25/01/2022 19:49

@Twizbe that’s only if you are clinically vulnerable. If you are vulnerable OP you should be invited to gave either an antiviral tablet the key or antibody IV drug, within 24 hours of your test result.
Hope you feel better. Rest. Fluids and vitamins like everyone has said.

This is happening to me! Day two yesterday I had a few hours where a felt slightly better in the day time and was able to sort some housework and the kids school stuff for them going back (one of mine is now negative x2 and is going back to school with her dad) Then the evening I felt like death again… really weak, tired and slightly nauseous, cough bad.. How strange. I’m now up at 4am cause my cough has turned mucus and chesty and I’m coughing up phlegm tmi. Yak. take care x
Armpittits · 26/01/2022 04:06

You’re most certainly welcome Smile
They are great cause you can have as many as you like.. can’t do that with cough medicine.
Take care x

If you don’t mind me asking, what day are you on? This is happening to me. I’m getting strong hunger pangs but then I’m making food and i suddenly lose my appetite again. It’s very strange. It does seem to come in waves of “oooo I feel a bit better” and then a few hours later turns into “I feel like death warmed up again”. Hope you’re not feeling too badly.

I took vitamin c, d, zinc and lots of magnesium. In the bath, as an oil that I applied and orally. - all except zinc were at much higher levels than the RDA for a few days.
I wish I'd taken a decent b vitamin too, but added one toward the end.
I had sinusitis for 3 days and loss of smell (which I think the b vits helped with) , but did notice a drop in fitness for around a week after, when I tried to get back to my regular activity.
