Anyone want a perpetual lockdown

783 replies

beentoldcomputersaysno · 25/01/2022 01:23

I often see posters accused of wanting continual lockdowns, despite their post not suggesting it. I often assume it's done to deflect or antagonise posters who suggest a health measure(s) to adapt to life post-2019. However, is there anyone who posts on this board that does want perpetual lockdowns?

OP posts:

There were loads.

The usual calls for !circuit breaker’ first.

Then the typical well it won’t be enough lockdown is coming

Even a few society will collapse thrown in for good measure

People forget easily after what the level of scare mongering was like

God, No! Lockdown has caused so many problems, mental health, educational, social, relationships.....

There are aspects of lockdown I love. The ability to wfh, no need for a stupid, expensive commute, less pollution, less congestion, less time wasted on totally unnecessary stuff. All those make sense.

I've been locked down for months (I'm cev) but that will be over by March and I can't wait Grin. The sooner we are all able to relax and socialise normally the better. We are social animals and being isolated causes many people a lot of stress.

@RocketFire7

Deepti Gurdasani and independent sage seem to want perpetual lockdowns
Nah Deepti's seen which way the wind is blowing now, she had an article out last week. I'm not surprised actually, it's a sensible pivot if she's got an eye on keeping her profile high post covid.
lilikiki · 25/01/2022 10:03

I know a couple of people who say they want life to go back to normal but any hint of covid-related panic and their eyes light up!

kickupafuss · 25/01/2022 10:03

I don't think anyone wants a perpetual lockdown - look at all the posts on here - they're all about a supposed friend/ someone who posted on social media. Why aren't these people posting here if it's so common? It's just a way of shutting people down.

It was more extreme pre Christmas and after

Even the die hards seem to have drifted away now there’s no threat of next one to dangle

TheRainbow · 25/01/2022 10:15

@NoRaceInThisHorse

Agree with previous poster. It's just used to shut down discussion.
Yup
NightmareSlashDelightful · 25/01/2022 10:15

I also think we'd be naive to assume that every post is a genuine person's genuine opinion. A lot of posts on forums generally and I'm sure MN is no different are either wind-ups, paid shills, bots or penned by the mentally untethered.

Yes I would agree with that!
Lweji · 25/01/2022 10:17

Well... I'm enjoying the lack of traffic now that so many people are isolating and/or WFH. Grin

But, I think you are not wrong, OP.

Tbf there have been bans.

I agree with a pp though I think at least some people are taking the piss.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 25/01/2022 10:19

Also and I know this for a fact MN in particular gets a lot of 'visits' from bellend men who get their kicks out of trying to frighten women via the medium of the comment box.

TheRainbow · 25/01/2022 10:20

@DownWhichOfLate

I don’t want schools to close either. I just want them to be safer. But, to some, that means homeschooling forever. No, just some safety measures please.
Agree.
Lolamento · 25/01/2022 10:23

The problems is that some people does not seem to understand that health measures have affected people much worst than Covid. Finally newspapers like BBC are coming forward with real stories about a young people committing suicide due to lockdowns, restrictions, inability to socialise and travel and see relatives. Bankruptcy and people with other health issues that have not been seen by NHS.

At this stage is ridiculous to keep asking for measures when we are not on the same position than March 2020. Get a grip!

Agree with you and other posters that say it's just a way to shut the conversation down. Same posters that shout the loudest and ride over people's real pain by saying 'oh you want a lockdown' bollocks. Same posters with an agenda back on here too. Must be employed by mumsnet. Sadly a one sided argument going on.

Yep, totally agree, it amazes me that anyone genuinely believes a significant proportion of people (either on MN or in the real world) want a perpetual lockdown. Of course they don't - but anyone that dares to express any level of concern about Covid is now accused of it.
CorrBlimeyGG · 25/01/2022 10:32

I don't want lockdowns, I want an NHS (and social care) that is able to meet the needs of people who are sick.

We've barely had proper lockdowns at all. Being asked to wear a mask to a shop or pub is not a lockdown.

Lolamento · 25/01/2022 10:32

And btw people who wants capitalism and the strong economies gone are pro lockdowns. They are a way to destroy economy. However, these lockdowns have made some people richer or some just rich.

Lolamento · 25/01/2022 10:34

I other countries they are still happening so we were lucky here is was like it was.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 25/01/2022 10:39

I find people like to shout 'we need to learn to live with it' without actually demonstrating any actual LEARNING.

What they really mean is they want to pretend Covid doesn't exist.

We can learnt to live with it without denying it's existence completely. There may be a handful who claim to pretend Covid doesn't exist but most are rational types not at either extreme shouting about restrictions forever or Covid is not happening.

Huh? So when all schools, shops, unessential business were closed and park benches were roped off, playgrounds were shut, people were getting fined for walking with a friend in a park … that wasn’t a lockdown? I hate the competitive misery of it all - our lives were made awful but they had it slightly worse in X country, therefore it didn’t count as a lockdown Hmm …

If you’re not allowed to go to work, if you’re not allowed to visit your friends or family in their own home, if your children can’t go to school it’s a lockdown FFS.

Watercoloursky · 25/01/2022 10:44

And some of the most persistent/determinedly doomy (zoom Christmases forevermore, etc) have been banned, I've seen one complaining about this on another forum I use.
