How long does it take to test positive?

My daughter (7 years) tested positive on lft today- yesterday night was having a stuffy nose and lethargy-
So far husband and me are testing negative/ husband is double dosed and boosted
I am double dosed (40 years) and not yet boosted. My second was in October
How long until we test positive? When I mean we I guess it’s mostly me testing positive as husband has lesser chance due to the booster?

My four year old tested positive on Sunday, my husband tested positive on Tuesday (doubled vaxed and booster), so far myself (double vaxed and booster) and toddler are still negative. My newborn isn't showing any signs of symptoms either

Greatbighole · 22/01/2022 15:26

DS age 4 tested positive on thurs, rest of us still neg. He’s been licking my face and breathing all over me so I’ll be surprised if we don’t get it.

ElenaAvalor · 22/01/2022 15:27

DH positive 6 days after DS.

RandomDent · 22/01/2022 15:31

I’m double and boosted, feels like a mild cold. If it wasn’t covid I’d take some cold tablets and be out and about.
8yo tested positive on Wednesday, me today. We hadn’t tested the child every day.
Hope you will be ok.

Shinyandnew2022 · 22/01/2022 15:32

When DS (8) had it we thought we had all escaped it until DH tested positive on day 10 !
DD and I seem to have escaped it.
I guess there are always outliers and we seem to be not the norm.
I had always been nervous about DH getting it but we have been lucky he has sailed through with only a few days of cold type symptoms.

bluesky45 · 22/01/2022 20:40

We (me and DH) were both boosted in Dec.
Ds1 tested positive on Saturday, we did lft every day for 7 days and never tested positive at all. Neither did ds2 who is 2.
Ds1 tested negative on the Friday and Saturday so days 6 and 7.

Is there anyone who can share your experience with two jabs and no booster?
I’ve had my second in Oct- but not had the booster yet-

Was due this week but now not sure if I should get it or not- as high chance I’ll test positive today/ or one of these days

I'd had my second jab around 3/4 weeks when dc caught it and I did not. I then caught it around 2 weeks after their isolation had finished so around 2 months post second. No idea how I caught it as barely left the house in the days leading up to it. Was pretty achy and sore with hot flushes and shivers on day 1&2, after that just felt tired and light headed. Didn't seem much different to what friends who are boostered have reported

YepNameChanged · 23/01/2022 10:25

Thank you @liveforsummer that’s useful to know/ it’s just that the ‘official’ info out there is so confusing as it’s not just scientific but political as well…

Following as in similar situation.

WarriorN · 23/01/2022 10:29

Anecdotally around me, it really seems to be very random in families.

liveforsummer · 23/01/2022 10:31

Obviously as warrior days it's anecdotal and I work in a school so surrounded by people with higher exposure but the 3rd jab certainly in my experience neither stops people from catching it nor makes much difference to symptoms all seems to be the same

XpressoMartini · 23/01/2022 10:33

2 jabs here, last one was in July. Didn’t get a chance to do the booster as caught covid late December. Symptoms were like a bad cold/mild flue but did last for a good 2 weeks.
Had symptoms for 7 days before testing positive.

Just to add to my own post DH and I both 2x vax and boosted approx 6 weeks ago

Thank you all-I understand it’s a virus and pandemics happen and humans have battled through similar or far worse scenarios but this has really brought to light how much we all rely on ‘normalcy’ whatever that means to each … from the pint of losing my dad I feel like my whole life is out of control- I don’t have the energy to plan anything…all feels so up in the air.

I tested positive yesterday, 5 days after DD.
I've been boosted, early 50s wouldn't describe what I've got even as a cold slight snuffles maybe

WarriorN · 23/01/2022 10:50

Can understand Op; this must be very difficult for you Thanks

WarriorN · 23/01/2022 10:53

I'm struggling a little with the uncertainty of what will happen this week re work and planning for that (teaching) who will look after our child (and the other if test pos) and for how long etc, plus if we do have any symptoms, and I haven't had the trauma of loosing anyone.

Thanks
YepNameChanged · 23/01/2022 11:10

Thank you @WarriorN
I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy- family miles away - mum and sister moved into a quarantine centre- which was the right decision as they had good 24 hour care, and access to a hospital if required but dad ended in icu and passed away- as per the country’s rules he had to be cremated within 24 hours- I couldn’t travel due to the travel van at that time- I guess that’s life, make the most if every say as they say.

As of now my daughter has a stuffy Norse, headache and lethargy..husband and I tested negative today morning but not sure for how long…I’m worried but do understand there’s sod all I can do!

@YepNameChanged I understand your anxiety my Mum died of Covid in lockdown 1, happened v quickly. So I've been anxious but so far for me vaccines and booster are doing their stuff and barely ill

worriedatthemoment · 23/01/2022 18:09

I have just tested positive today couple days after ds tested positive but he was only ill t days ago with headache all day and slight sore throat so think his started then
Saying that i had a headache that day too but mine went away quite quickly so mot sure mine is from then
I just felt not quite right yesterday so went for a pcr today ( my lft have been negative but so were ds until 3 days after symptons) had the resuly back quickly and I am positive but dh negative still .

MirabelM · 23/01/2022 18:35

Am I out of the woods 7 days post positive DD? Although DH positive yesterday.

Aurorie11 · 23/01/2022 19:51

@MirabelM I'd say you are out of woods being infected by DD but now have 6 more days due to DH positive. My DS and DH in same boat as I tested positive yesterday, 5 days after DD
