How long does it take to test positive?

My daughter (7 years) tested positive on lft today- yesterday night was having a stuffy nose and lethargy-
So far husband and me are testing negative/ husband is double dosed and boosted
I am double dosed (40 years) and not yet boosted. My second was in October
How long until we test positive? When I mean we I guess it’s mostly me testing positive as husband has lesser chance due to the booster?

I’m wearing a mask as washing hands etc but with a primary school child infection control is difficult!

My child was positive last Friday, husband and I tested positive on Tuesday. Both of us had the booster in December.

TheSnowyOwl · 22/01/2022 13:21

Maybe two to five days. Even if it says otherwise, swab your throat with your LFT to get the earliest result you can.

YepNameChanged · 22/01/2022 13:24

Thanks for the responses- will swab my throat tomorrow when I do the lft

Obviously my daughter was contagious before she showed symptoms does anyone know how long she is contagious for from the point of testing? Is it until she tests negative?

Little one tested positive Sunday, I tested positive Tuesday

Theoretically it’s day 10 (although in some people it is longer). She can start testing to see if she is negative from day 5 and leave isolation on day 6 if she has had two consecutive negative LFTs 24 hours apart.

Four days until I got a positive

Doublechocolatetiffin · 22/01/2022 13:30

My daughter tested positive 6 days ago, we're triple vaccinated and have just tested positive today. My middle daughter definitely got it a week ago too (based on symptoms) but has tested negative until today. My youngest caught it 2 days after her older sisters.

CouldItBeYesItCould · 22/01/2022 13:31

My whole family has it except me currently! DC1 is on day 6, DC2 on day 3, DC3 on day 2.

IggyAce · 22/01/2022 13:32

From experience 4 to 5 days.

We are in the same boat. Ds (4) tested positive Thursday eve. I feel poorly but still negative. Other kids still negative. Could do with us all getting it over the weekend so I don't end up doing up to 3 weeks at home with kids!

Coffeeandchoc · 22/01/2022 13:36

You might not catch it. My DS tested positive at the beginning on January. Me, DH and other DS tested every day for 8 days and then every other day for another week. We had no extra precautions in place to try and avoid contact (small house) and none of us caught it!

YepNameChanged · 22/01/2022 13:38

Thank you all. As silly as it sounds I feel a bit scared. My dad passed away due to Covid in September so it’s playing in my mind that I’ll end up in the hospital

Thanks for asking this OP as I’m interested in the same. Sorry to hear about your dad passing. Flowers

My DS (7) tested positive this morning after headache, temp and 1 bout of sickness last night. DH haven’t tested yet as we used last test on DS so waiting for mum to drop off a box of hers. DS is now perfectly fine and bouncing around the house. Mum was in hospital for 11 days on oxygen in October and I feel the same nerves as you. We are both triple vaxxed so hopefully it’ll do it’s thing.

Hope you manage to stay covid free and your daughter gets well quickly.

Husband and Ds tested positive on Thursday. Dd has tested positive this morning. I'm yet to get it but i am triple jabbed and was the only one in house to catch covid back in Oct. So might get away with it. DH hadn't had his booster yet so might be why he got it quickly. Assuming it came from son as there is a break out at his school.

redsky21 · 22/01/2022 14:12

My son tested positive exactly a week after me. No mask wearing etc within our home, we just carried on as normal.

Aurorie11 · 22/01/2022 14:13

Dd tested positive on Monday, I tested positive this morning. Dh and DS negative so far.
Feel annoyed but well. Day 6 for DD tomorrow

YepNameChanged · 22/01/2022 14:16

For the double vaccinated posters- how were your symptoms?

worriedatthemoment · 22/01/2022 14:32

My ds currently has covid tested positive yesterday but now suspect he had it since weds , so far none if us positive, although i feel not right today
My other ds had in october and none of us caught it from him and then you had pCr etc to confirm but he did isolate as older teen so his bedroom is his sanctuary
I know people who have't isolated though who haven't caught it and those who have isolated and family still have
I

worriedatthemoment · 22/01/2022 14:35

My ds is triple vaccinated last one in dec and he has still caught it although not really unwell so hopefully vaccination is helping with mild symptoms
Me and dh triple jabbed but ds16 is only just double jabbed ( not been 14 days quite) as he had covid and couldn't get his second jab for ages

Indecisivelurcher · 22/01/2022 14:43

I have read that the incubation period is about 4 or 5 days. My 7yo daughter tested positive on Tuesday morning and none of the rest of us have caught it yet, including unvaccinated 4yo who was actually licking her on Thursday (kids are weird). We're not wearing masks, I think they prevent the person breathing covid out over other people. Dd shared a bed with me on Wednesday night. Try not to worry you might not even get it and if you do it will most likely be mild. I wouldn't know Dd had it.

fizzyfood · 22/01/2022 14:47

Double jabbed here, my symptoms have mostly been painful sinuses and feeling sick and a little warm.

worriedatthemoment · 22/01/2022 14:54

My ds who has covid had work colleague test positive tues who had been in on monday and then ds became unwell weds but only tested positive on fri, so seems like his was only a couple days as literally only place he had been for last 2 weeks is work

liveforsummer · 22/01/2022 15:03

I didn't catch it off dc despite dd2 sleeping in my bed and sneaking drinks from my cup. I did catch it sitting at home over nee year when dc were at their dads 🤷🏼‍♀️
