Is your child's secondary school ditching masks or keeping them?

Just had an email from ds's secondary school. They will still have to wear masks at all times. My ds was really looking forward to ditching it.
What are other schools doing?

From today no more masks in classrooms - thank goodness!

Wakemeuuuup · 20/01/2022 15:14

My kids' school is keeping masks in classrooms and corridors etc. Mind you, they've been un masks since before October half term

Verite1 · 20/01/2022 15:17

Ditching. School email said cases v low at school at the moment. London though

blameitonthecaffeine · 20/01/2022 15:27

Keeping them because they care about their staff and their pupils

We're dropping them in classrooms because we care about our staff and our pupils.

You can argue it either way.

Keeping them in corridors until at least half term. Not sure of the point in wearing them in corridors unless they're also worn in classroom but that's the decision.

No communication at all from school about this

RhinestoneCowgirl · 20/01/2022 15:34

Had text from school this morning, masks no longer needed in classrooms but requested for corridors and communal areas.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 20/01/2022 15:47

Messages from both schools confirming the new guidelines but saying that if students want to continue wearing masks that's fine.

DD2 has just come home & said everyone in her year ( Y11) has ignored Boris and is wearing their mask.

yomellamoHelly · 20/01/2022 15:49

I expect we'll be keeping them. Have lots of cases atm.

DaisyTheUnicorn · 20/01/2022 15:49

Ours has now emailed and said not in class from today (wasnt anyway) and communal areas no need from next thursday. Unless people want to.

Keeping them because they care about their staff and their pupils

Our school lets pupils and staff remove their masks during lessons - because they care about their pupils and staff Smile

Ditching them thank goodness. Following guidelines

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 20/01/2022 17:10

Keeping them as the covid numbers are still quite high and they are trying to reduce thr number of staff currently off (had a lot of supply teachers recently which isn't ideal before mocks)

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/01/2022 17:14

I'm in Scotland so masks are still supposed to be a legal requirement.

However I was at a meeting at my son's school this week and noticed that only about half the kids are wearing them. Asked my son about it and he said he forgets half the time and the teachers aren't bothered and don't say anything about it.

So the kids are just going their own way no matter what the Chief Mammy says.

Sockpile · 20/01/2022 17:25

We got a message stating that cases are higher than they have ever been so they are keeping masks. They have also requested that two year groups test daily as there are so many cases.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/01/2022 17:43

We had an email on Monday asking for students to test every day as cases are so high in school.

And now they don’t need to wear masks🤷🏼‍♀️ Figures might be dropping in London but they’re going up in the north.

fizzypop100 · 20/01/2022 18:31

Just had an e mail. Masks staying in all areas

whattodo2019 · 20/01/2022 18:35
