If you had Swine Flu, have you had Covid

I was really ill with Swine Flu in 2009. Hospitalised and in ITU for 3 days and in hospital for 2 weeks.

All my family have had Covid, people I spent time with just before Christmas had it over Christmas but I didn't get it.

I have had all three jabs, had them early as classed as vulnerable as I have Lupus.

Just wondered if having had a coronavirus so badly whether that has helped me fight it off.

No and I was very ill with it, interesting.

MrMistoffee · 15/01/2022 09:38

Yes, my partner, (then) infant daughter and I all had it. Them two badly and nearly ended up in hospital. We are stubbornly refusing to get Covid despite being close contacts of many cases. We test at least twice a week due to our jobs/school.

LubaLuca · 15/01/2022 09:38

Yes! I was very unwell with swine flu, but not hospitalised. I got covid last week, had all 3 jabs early because I too have an underlying health condition.

Schr0dingersreindeer · 15/01/2022 09:38

Yes never been so ill until I had covid last January when I was worse. Fortunately didn't have to go to hospital but touch and go both times!

Yellow85 · 15/01/2022 09:41

My DF had swine flu pretty badly. He had covid now and luckily it’s not much more than a head cold, despite underlying heart condition too.

We’ve been terrified of him catching covid. It’ll be a relief once it passes.

I thought Swine Flu was caused by an Influenza virus not a corona virus, so would not offer any protection against COVID?

BigPlanes · 15/01/2022 09:44

I think I may have had swine flu. I was in bed for at least a week terribly sick around the peak of it. Also had covid and in bed for weeks. No hospitalisation for either though.

nordica · 15/01/2022 09:46

They are totally different viruses...

I had swine flu though and it was like a bad flu, took me quite a long time to get over the fatigue and it really affected my fitness level (I was in my early 20s then). Not had covid but really don't think the two are related in any way.

Crackingowlsanctuary · 15/01/2022 09:53

My teenage son had swine flu and Covid. He was much, much more ill with swine flu. But two totally different viruses anyway

SirVixofVixHall · 15/01/2022 09:57

Yes to Swine flu no to covid.
We all had swine flu, DH had it very mildly.
Dd2 caught covid, virtually asymptomatic, just very slight symptoms that would not have been noticed had we not been looking for them (she tested pos on LFT)
Dh caught it from her and was pretty unwell.
Dd1 and didn’t catch it.

PartridgeCoop · 15/01/2022 10:01

I had a confirmed case of swine flu (though in 2009 when it was quite new where I was). Then had covid. As far as I know swine flu is not a coronavirus so not sure how useful it would be in protecting against covid.

Theunamedcat · 15/01/2022 10:03

I've had swine flu the swine flu jab three covid jabs and covid twice

I'm just that lucky 🙄

TheSpiral · 15/01/2022 10:06

DH and DS1 had what I strongly suspected to be swine flu and were both quite ill, DS1 more so, although never in danger of hospitalisation. I had been vaccinated against it when pregnant with DS2 and didn’t get it at all, DS2 got it very mildly.
I had Covid in November, I was quite ill although again never in danger. DS2 also had it in November with very few symptoms. DS1 and DH have not had it.

PurpleDaisies · 15/01/2022 10:06

Yes

Onegingerhead · 15/01/2022 10:16

I did have swine flu and it was horrible, I really thought I would die…
But I also caught covid, yet it was extremely mild

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 15/01/2022 10:17

I had Swine Flu and very ill with it. Haven't had covid yet, but so are all my family. I guess we've been lucky so far.

containsnuts · 15/01/2022 14:49

I was quite unwell at home with Swine flu early that year. It's probably why I have taken more precautions to avoid covid - flu like illnesses are no joke! I've managed to dodge covid so far but it's probably just down to luck or chance.

PrivateHall · 15/01/2022 14:55

I was hospitalised with swine flu in 2009. Then I was hospitalised with covid in 2020.

slavetothekittens · 15/01/2022 18:50

Had swine flu and was ill for about a week before I started to feel better again. Covid really knocked me for six and it's taken a long time for me to start feeling more like my old self again. Covid was much worse than swine flu for me.

Crapslattern · 15/01/2022 19:02

No - neither so far. Not sure of the reasoning behind the question though. They're completely different viruses.

ArdeaCinerea · 15/01/2022 19:25

I've had the 2009 swine flu and I was quite ill, albeit not hospital-level ill (I was bed bound and hallucinating with fever for nearly two weeks though). I haven't had the flu again since, so it probably provided some protection against other strains. The swine flu was an influenza virus that has no connection whatsoever to the corona, though. Like, none at all.

BertieQueen · 15/01/2022 19:26

I had swine flu and was also 6 months pregnant at the time. I was very very ill. I lost 2 stone in weight in a month. It was horrible. Haven’t had covid.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/01/2022 19:28

I had swine flu, then a post flu chest infection which left me with lung scarring. Not had Covid so far. But I have been pretty careful, and working for NHS did get vaccinated pretty early.

samandpoppysmummy · 15/01/2022 19:32

I had swine flu in 2009 and was very unwell with it (although not hospitalised), as were my two children. None of us have had Covid despite almost all my children's friends and most of mine having had it (some have had it twice).

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 15/01/2022 19:33

Swine flu 2009, for nearly 3 weeks, felt like death would have been a welcome release tbh.
Have not had covid!
