Just heard on the wireless that from Monday 17th the isolation time will be five days. Another step towards getting back to normal and will help with staff shortages.

Yes great news. Another step back to normal and obviously great for those who need to be in work.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/01/2022 12:44

Just for clarity the rule will be that if you test negative on day 4 and 5 you can go out on day 6.

LuckyMeISeeGhosts · 13/01/2022 12:45

Thank God.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2022 12:46

Lots of people are still testing positive on day 6 and 7 so I'm not sure how many extra people will be released from isolation any earlier than they are already

OhDear2200 · 13/01/2022 12:46

Considering everyone is saying that they still test positive in day 6&7 I don’t see what change this will bring?

OhDear2200 · 13/01/2022 12:46

@dementedpixie great minds….

Lacedwithgrace · 13/01/2022 12:47

How many people will lie and say they tested negative to get out earlier? Ffs

dementedpixie · 13/01/2022 12:47

Just read the info and you need ro be negative on day 5 and 6 not 4 and 5

KiloWhat · 13/01/2022 12:49

I really hope people understand they have to test negative first.

Caddycat · 13/01/2022 12:49

I don't know anyone who was negative on day 6 and 7, let alone on day 4 and 5. Basically, people will say I had symptoms 48h ago to push back the start date of isolation and 3 days later they will be out and about passing covid on.

2022HowDoYouDo · 13/01/2022 12:49

I still tested positive yesterday on day 8!

Montecristocount · 13/01/2022 12:50

Anyone who is isolating because they picked up an asymptomatic case on a lft towards the end of the infection will test negative by then so it should help a bit with staff absence.

It was the BBC I read it on

MarshaBradyo · 13/01/2022 12:51

Good news

dementedpixie · 13/01/2022 12:52

They say 5 days but really you're taking a test first thing on day 5 and 6 to get out at the start of day 6.

Figgygal · 13/01/2022 12:53

My mum still testing positive on day 10
People will just release themselves at day 5 without testing and virus will spread further
Surely sign the government want this to be over now

The challenge being that, of 13 in my family, we all caught it. Only one person of the 13 actually tested negative on day 8, everyone else was later. Some as late as day 12. We were hot on lft, as we knew on of the family had it, so all packed it up very early. It was the first time any of us had had it, so maybe they are anticipating if you get it again you will be infectious for less time, I'm not sure.

I don't think the government are doing this because they think the time is right or the science supports it, they are doing this to try to get Boris off the front pages and divert attention. Kind of a 'oooooo look a shiny thing' approach
Scottishgirl85 · 13/01/2022 12:59

This is good news. The response to the virus should never cause more damage than the virus itself.

ThirdTimeIucky · 13/01/2022 13:00

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo I absolutely agree with this!

Howshouldibehave · 13/01/2022 13:01

Everyone I know with covid was still testing positive on day 6 and 7, so not sure what this will do.

When is the isolation ending now then, if you’re still testing positive?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/01/2022 13:02

@Howshouldibehave 10 days still I believe if you continue to test positive.

Howshouldibehave · 13/01/2022 13:04

Thank you for clarifying. This news won’t make any difference to anyone I know who’s had it then!
