Experience of (probable) omicron variant in 75 year olds

Just spent the weekend with my parents and did a LFT when home pre return to work. Positive for my husband Sad

Probably been asked before but looking for experience of the disease in 75 year olds (triple vaccinated). Such bad timing - we don’t see them that often.

My triple jabbed 85 year old grandfather caught it at Christmas. He’s been absolutely fine. Nothing more than cough/cold and feeling a bit under the weather. He even drove himself to get a PCR test. He’s out of isolation now and fully back to normal.

Try not to worry too much, I was staying with my partners parents and tested positive the day after we got home - they never ended up catching it.

A group I know of caught it just before Christmas. All aged 75-85 and fit and healthy, do lots of exercise etc.
2 described it as a heavy cold.
2 said like "flu with a bad cough" and did spend a day or so in bed.
2 were taken quite badly with it.

There seemed to be no reason why 2 had it worse than the others, they weren't the oldest/least healthy etc.
All were triple vaccinated.

My 73 year old Dad had it over Christmas and was fine, just mild cold symptoms.

My DM had covid over Christmas. She's 76, tripled jabbed.

She felt like she had a reasonably bad cold for 3 days. But said she'd had colds that were worse. Is totally fine now.

Hopefully it will be similar for your parents if they go down with it.

My 84 year old mother in law, who has COPD had very mild symptoms for a couple of days and was fine.

My DM, mid 80's, spent all day with a family member at Christmas, including a couple of 40 minute car journeys. Family member tested + the day after this extended contact but my DM did not catch it. She has been triple vaxxed. So, it isn't a given that tour parents will catch it - likely, but not definite.

My uncle has had it recently. Mid 80s. Double vac plus booster. He had a bad cold but no concerning symptoms.

Friend's mum - mid 80s not been able to get boosted as she has been bouncing constantly between care home and hospital for the last few months - was found upon entry to hospital again at Christmas to be covid positive. It is the least of her health issues and she hasn't been very ill at all.

DF 77 had it over Christmas. Triple jabbed and generally in good health. He described it like flu - sore throat, headache, runny nose/sneezing, exhaustion and an itchy rash. He also had bad aches and pains, lost his appetite and had a few days in bed.
DM didn't catch it, but DF tried his best to wear a mask and gel his hands when near her, bless him.
He was positive for 14 days, but is now better apart from a little post viral tiredness.

Me, DD, DSis and her husband, DNephew and his girlfriend all tested positive after spending two days together with my DM in her 80s. We were so bloody scared she was going to test positive because all 6 of us had it seemed certain she would. She didn’t catch it! I thought it must be because we hadn’t got majorly majorly close to her - we’d sat round the dinner table together and on the sofa etc but I didn’t think anybody had hugged or kissed her until DD nervously let slip that she’d given her quite a few hugs and my DM had even kissed her hand at one point. I understand how worrying it is but lots of positive stories here and as I say she might not even catch it Flowers

My 80 year old dad caught it hospital, not omicron and this was before any vaccines.

He coughed for a day and that was all, was absolutely fine.

My FIL in his mid 70’s caught it, fully vaxxed and boosted - said felt like a bad cold for a few days. Day 6 was testing negative. He said he’s had regular colds which were worse. Didn’t isolate from my MIL- late 60’s - vax status the same- and she didn’t catch it.
My friend spent all Christmas Day and Boxing Day with her grandparents in their late 70’s and she subsequently tested positive two days later. They were fully vaxxed and boosted - neither got it.

Hopefully they’ll both be okay. Take care and hope you’re better soon :)

Really do appreciate the replies. I’m generally v relaxed about it all now (living with it with caution etc) but feel guilty about this timing even though my mum has been fine about it and says the timing is no-ones fault! Which is what I would say to people, but it’s harder when it actually happens. Oh fingers crossed they don’t get it anyway…. Will update…

Two friends of mine, married couple aged 75 and 80 triple jabbed, tested positive for Omicron after their son in law got it, and they'd spent Christmas Day together.

I found out from another friend so called them last week to see how they were.

They told me if they hadn't gone for a test they wouldn't have known they had it. No symptoms at all!

OP I was you about 10 days ago when we’d spent Christmas with in laws and parents, all in their 70s and 2 of them CV, and DD tested positive a few days later.
None of them caught it, although we’d been really vigilant and all worn masks in their house apart from when we were eating.
My parents best friends both mid 70s had it over Christmas and are absolutely fine now.
My uncle in his early 80s also and he described it as a cold.
Fingers crossed for your parents.

FIL, mid 80s, smoker, had triple heart bypass previously, has it. It's a bit of a cold for him.
MIL hasn't caught it yet after a week.

Big family Christmas....all together...,,2 days later .....My son 30 ...double jabbed tested positive..... me, 57 triple jabbed also positive.....my SIL 31 double jabbed tested positive....l my Mum 85 triple jabbed remains Covid free 2 weeks on..... there’s no saying he’s will get it

Some of my parents friends have just had it/have it. 70s and 80s. Either asymptomatic or mild cold. Hope that reassures

How many days previously had DH tested?
