So according to reports they are going to stop handing out LFT and will be stopping mass testing - this is excellent news for both the tax payer and the environment and surely marks a clear path this whole thing becoming endemic Smile

praise be to the gods , that was meant to be , im so excited by ops thread i cant spell properly lol

TempNameChangexx · 09/01/2022 00:36

I'm always a bit baffled when people welcome these sorts of steps as "a way to deal with it"

Ignoring something and pretending it isn't there (by not testing for it) isn't the same as dealing with it.....
It (Covid) will still be there, but we won't know who has it and could therefore infect our vulnerable relatives.
No more testing before you go to visit elderly parents.
Just back to Covid roulette....

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:36

@chaosrabbitland why are you working somewhere that brings you into contact with so many vulnerable people that you speak so harshly about?

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:37

You are excited because you can tell the people who come to you for help to get lost?
chaosrabbitland · 09/01/2022 00:40

@LilyPond2

Not sure why everyone is so delighted at the abandonment of free testing. Even with testing we currently have a situation where hospitals are so short staffed that the government has had to call in the army to help, and people are being told to take heart attack and stroke patients to hospital in their own cars because there aren't ambulances available. If there hadn't been tests available, the Omicron variant would have spread even more rapidly through the population.
and its been proven to be a mildish varient which is similar to a cold , if everybody wasnt bloody testing then all these people wouldnt have to isolate for what is now proving for most to be a heavy cold surely ?
Tilltheend99 · 09/01/2022 00:40

It just means we’ll all still need to take the test but they won’t be free.

It also winds me up when ‘the tax payer’ is lorded as some mythical creature. The tax payer is you and me; the same people who don’t want to give Covid to their vulnerable relatives and neighbours.

150,000 people is the population of Cambridge. The population of Cambridge will no longer be paying taxes except for death duties.

That is the reality.

You are completely unreasonable to see people not getting tested as a money saving measure considering how much money you were presumably happy to see chucked down the drain as long as some government ministers mate was on the receiving end of it.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:41

@chaosrabbitland do you understand what LilyPond actually said? Because your response makes no sense if you did.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:42

@Tilltheend99 except most people wont pay.

Ruralbliss · 09/01/2022 00:42

This is amazing but am gobsmacked to see of the many billions of £££ spent on Covid the Track n Trace thingie has claimed £28billion over the issue and rollout of the vaccines which has cost £18bn

How is this even possible? It's a mobile phone app with some printed QR codes displayed on bits of paper in establishments?

My brother writes mobile phone apps and I work for a Gov department designing IT systems wayyyyyyyy more complex than track and trace and most of them come in under £1million.

That's surely a typo or a great big swindle/money laundering.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:43

@Ruralbliss it has been a way for Boris Johnson to give a lot of money to his mates.

LilyPond2 · 09/01/2022 00:44

@chaosrabbitland

praise be to the goods , could this mean that when i go to work in the pharmacy /everyday beauty store im in , i wont be constanly getting bloody moaned at , asked inane questions , such as when are they coming in , and where else has got them , all in a whingey voice and pained expression , and oh my god , the fucking arse they get when they havent got the code and we arent supposed to be giving them without the code , . but some of them moan so much we have to give them one without anyway .

cant wait for this to start taking effect

Seeing the bigger picture not your strong point is it @chaosrabbitland!

In Scotland we have to test for 7 days as a close contact instead of isolating so how is that going to work?

and its been proven to be a mildish varient which is similar to a cold , if everybody wasnt bloody testing then all these people wouldnt have to isolate for what is now proving for most to be a heavy cold surely ?

If people didn't test then it would run rampant through the population. Still, who cares about the vulnerable it could infect or the people who would end up in hospital or the staff who would have to look after them?

Dishhh · 09/01/2022 00:46

In Australia we pay for LFTs, and always have. From next week, positive LFT results must be uploaded as they will count towards official COVID numbers. The Government is encouraging people to do LFTs rather than PCRs if they are a casual contact to take pressure off the testing centres, although It is hard at the moment to get LFT packs. So our country's approach is certainly not 'stop testing', but has moved to a different mode of testing.

Please don't stop testing.

GlomOfNit · 09/01/2022 00:48

Well, I'll have to kiss goodbye to seeing my mother, my dad, my ECV friends - unless I can get hold of some LFTs and pay for them. There are some seriously selfish feckers on here. Hmm Because it hasn't had a direct effect on you and yours, you're happy to ditch the last bloody defence most of us have at our disposal where we can continue to live life but with some caution? FFS this is a pandemic, they do not last forever. It's on its way out but we still need to be careful. The patience and entitlement of some people in this country is on a par with preschool level.

slashlover · 09/01/2022 00:48

and really apart from the people that need them for work , why is it neccesary for double and triple vaxxed people to constatly test themselves and lets not pretend its just people who think they have it , its just because they want to bloody test themselves every damn time they leave the house , its done all of our heads in for the last few weeks dealing with them , its just relentless moaning , anyone would think they were in search of a bar of gold rather than a hit and miss test that then even if positve has to be followed up by a pcr

So they don't infect other people if they're asymptomatic? Maybe working with the general public isn't really for you?

I'll add to this that there are exemptions to payment: if you are a close contact; a lower-wage earner; on a healthcare card or concession card, etc. in those cases, you are entitled to up to 10 free LFTs.

Tilltheend99 · 09/01/2022 00:52

@Bluebluemoon

SO hope this is true. I had a feeling this would happen soon - I had to visit 3 different chemists yesterday to get my prescription and people were running in and out like headless chickens asking for LFT's to be told nowhere had any.

I just thought "this isn't an accident". Isolations are causing all the disruption in the nhs and other sectors now. It needs to stop.

Ah yes. Not liking seeing other people use the pharmacy is a good enough reason to let other sick and elderly people catch a deadly disease rather than take a test now and then.

im quite happy working with them , the insanity surrounding lateral flow tests is mind boggling and reveals the stupidity of people , if people that dont need them for work are still that desperate to get them , then im sure they will be happy to pay

This

But let’s not worry about that, or the money for Boris’s flat, or the official photos of Carrie’s dog, let’s take basic tests away instead.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:57

Australia has so few cases that tests are really not an issue.
In the UK we have sky high cases. This is simply a way of massaging the numbers.

Tilltheend99 · 09/01/2022 01:00

This thread!!!Shock

Wouldn’t it be nice if we lived in a society, one where people cared about each other’s welfare or had basic levels of empathy.

How are people stupid if they want to take a lateral flow before meeting an elderly parent? Or to get out of isolation at day 7? By work do you mean everyone with a job or just essential workers?

You may be aware that some people probably can't afford to pay so will either need to isolate before seeing family or just not see them at all?

Australia had over 100,000 cases the other day as they have started to include results from rapid tests.
Thingstodotoday · 09/01/2022 01:08

@chaosrabbitland you talk about the “stupidity of people” but then you ask “why is it necessary for double and triple vaxxed people to constantly test themselves?”
Have you any idea how many double/triple vaxxed people are still testing positive at the moment”?
I can’t cope with the irony 🤦🏽‍♀️.
