So according to reports they are going to stop handing out LFT and will be stopping mass testing - this is excellent news for both the tax payer and the environment and surely marks a clear path this whole thing becoming endemic Smile

Oh OK so I have to lft daily to protect others but no-one else has to lft to protect me. Confused

bumblefeline · 08/01/2022 23:57

Don't most other countries pay for these though already?

A Spain group that I am on had members begging people to take the free NHS LFTs with them on holiday as Spanish bar staff can't afford them

Yep
RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:02

And Spain provides free lateral flow tests.

Cottagepieandpeas · 09/01/2022 00:02

What happens if (when) there’s another new variant?

JustMaggie · 09/01/2022 00:03

Is it the "live with it" plan or the "let the vulnerable and disadvantaged die" plan?

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:03

US provides them free.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:03

It is we dont give a shit plan.
eagerlywaitingfor · 09/01/2022 00:05

We haven't been able to get hold of any LFT tests for several weeks anyway.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:07

Which is why cases are not going up at the same rate as deaths and hospitalisations.

BoredZelda · 09/01/2022 00:07

Such as Chicken pox, Flu and the cold

Remember that epidemic of chicken pox that had a million people a week catching it with 15,000 a day hospitalised with it? Oh yes, never happened.

People have been whining about “living with covid” for so long now, and yet when presented with a really simple and effective way of managing it, they whine they don’t want to do that either.

Seems the government’s original proposal back in 2020 of mass infection, bringing with it mass deaths and disruption was what people wanted after all.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 09/01/2022 00:07

Almost pointless schools doing testing if as DCs report that this week some of those with positive tests did not alert teachers because it was 'too embarrassing' to n front of other students.

Frazzled2207 · 09/01/2022 00:10

The truth is that free test will be scaled back
Schools, healthcare workplaces and symptomatic people will still be able to access free tests

Not sure where you got from that that testing is being “stopped”

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:10

It means we cant test before meeting up with vulnerable people.

tapeandglue · 09/01/2022 00:12

They clearly don't matter anymore.

Nice to see the Government's priorities.

Kokeshi123 · 09/01/2022 00:12

Wish there was testing available for me when a virus left me with permanent hearing loss in one ear… I was told by doctors “just to learn to live with it”.

Not trying to be funny here, but what would the test have done, in that case?

I also have hearing loss caused by mumps. I caught it before I could be vaccinated, because there was an outbreak in my community. It's crap, but these things do happen.

It's reasonable to expect members of society to get all available vaccines for things (including mumps), isolate when actually sick with an illness, and do common sense things like practice hygiene, put on a mask if you have a cold and have to leave the house for something essential etc. But mass testing forever and ever is not practical or desirable.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:15

Apart from at work, everyone I know is only testing when meeting up with vulnerable people. It is a way to keep people safe.

tapeandglue · 09/01/2022 00:19

@JustMaggie

Is it the "live with it" plan or the "let the vulnerable and disadvantaged die" plan?
Well, once we kill them all off, after that big spike in mortality, the numbers will be rather more stable.

Honestly, we're led by donkeys.

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor

Link or it didn’t happen
It’s in the SundayTimes. You can do your own googling, but it’s there!
RaoulDufysCat · 09/01/2022 00:24

These people are the worst people in the world. The govt now is an absolute shitshow.

I am ashamed to be part of this crap.

toomuchlaundry · 09/01/2022 00:24

And if living with it means testing before visiting vulnerable family members then I am quite happy to adopt that version of living with it. I’m sure there would be much more waste of resources and more environmental waste looking after sick people with COVID in hospital than there is with people using LFTs to prevent people having to go into hospital

fluffi · 09/01/2022 00:33

@RoyalFamilyFan

^ This.

The end of testing is scary for some vulnerable people and those that care for them. I can’t understand why people are so happy about the end of testing ... it’s not like we test for fun! Confused

At least with a combination of testing and being sensible could leave the house and do some work/social things during summer/autumn last year without feeling too worried. Without testing I fear I will have to restrict either activities (not fun for me) or contact with family (which I will feel guilty also not fun)
Sad

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:34

And whether people test before meeting up with vulnerable family, affects you not one bit.

RoyalFamilyFan · 09/01/2022 00:34

Does this only apply to England?

chaosrabbitland · 09/01/2022 00:35

praise be to the goods , could this mean that when i go to work in the pharmacy /everyday beauty store im in , i wont be constanly getting bloody moaned at , asked inane questions , such as when are they coming in , and where else has got them , all in a whingey voice and pained expression , and oh my god , the fucking arse they get when they havent got the code and we arent supposed to be giving them without the code , . but some of them moan so much we have to give them one without anyway .

cant wait for this to start taking effect
