Anyone else managed to avoid covid in the household?

Dh tested positive last Wednesday (was trying to prove his snotty nose was just the cold and it wasn't!). His symptoms remained as snotty nose, scratchy throat and mild headache that he didn't need painkillers for.

As we're in Scotland the whole household had to isolate together for 10 days. I didn't isolate from him as we still shared the bed and I sat in the living room with him (figured I may as well get it while it's the milder omicron variant plus we don't have a spare room I could sleep in). The 2 teenage kids avoided him by mostly staying in different rooms and eating at the table while we ate in the living room.

None of the rest of us have tested positive. We all went for PCRs and only dh was positive. I have done regular LFTs and they have all been negative, including today. Ds and dd also had no symptoms/tested negative.

How have we managed to avoid it? Dh uses a CPAP; has he been breathing his germs into that at night rather than in my direction? It's a mystery!

A friend of mine has now been in prolonged close contact (household) with four people with omicron and hasn't caught it. He's clinically vulnerable as well, and not young.

I know a lot of families who have had one case of Covid and no one else has got it over the last few months.

However when Covid first hit, March 2020, I bought it home from work (A&E) my DH got it. Both HCPs so could access tests then, so both confirmed. Pretty certain my kids got it as we were in lockdown so going no where so no where else their snotty nose and fevers could have come from. But I don't know for certain as we could not test them back then.

@Tulipomania

OP, have you all had your boosters?

Maybe they actually worked!

We haven’t had our boosters yet. We are double vaxxed though.

Dh and I are both boosted so it didn't work for him! Dd(18) has had 2 doses and isn't due a booster until February Ds(15) has has 1 dose and is supposed to get his 2nd on the 16th January

Yes, twice! Two of the household in august then dd in December.

eejervis · 07/01/2022 17:58

Yes. DD10 brought it home before Xmas (delta i think given symptoms). DH and I didn't catch it, despite no attempts at distancing whatsoever. We're both boosted.

damnthisvirusandmarriage · 07/01/2022 19:49

Both my kids had it over Xmas. Coughing all over me. Sneezing etc. it was impossible to avoid it.

But I didn’t catch it. Although I did come down with something else but tested negative in LFT and PCR throughout.

I’m a mutant.

TrumptyDumpty · 07/01/2022 20:00

In October 2 out of 5 of us got it, two DCs share a room. Myself and DH were double vaccinated, one DC who tested positive had had one dose. Really don't know how the three of us avoided it

SuperBlondie28 · 07/01/2022 20:03

Not home, because 3 people had it at work, 2 of them sit near me and I never caught it 😃

Think I'm of the same mutant variety. DS1 & 2 both tested positive NYE, coughing everywhere. DH & DS3 both tested positive Tuesday and Wednesday. Both coughing, poorly.

I've got all the symptoms, aching, coughing, scratchy throat, blocked nose, runny nose, been in bed all day sleeping on and off - all LFT's negative. Did have a mega virus before Xmas with a bit of pleurisy thrown in - maybe it's back?

Think I'm one of those lizard people from V.

dementedpixie · 07/01/2022 21:59

@TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife have you had a PCR. With all those symptoms you should take one if you haven't already

Me me!! DH and kids had it. I didn’t get it despite being snotted and coughed on daily

bluebeach · 08/01/2022 00:17

Out of interest, if anyone didn’t get it in a household where others did, what is your blood type? I’m O negative and didn’t get it when others did.

feeona123 · 08/01/2022 00:58

We were exposed on Christmas Day, my daughter tested positive on 28th, husband 31st, son 6th…I’m still negative! We haven’t isolated from each other. I think my son only got it as he drank my daughter’s drink by accident!

reesewithoutaspoon · 08/01/2022 01:52

2 years working on icu. . Up to now my daughter, sister, nephew, nieces, SIL and numerous cousins have had it. I still haven't.
Maybe I have had it but been asymptomatic. but weekly testing at work and lft's prior to visiting my mum have always been negative.

ooh interesting. I,m O+ve and a quick google found this :

In a separate study on more than 473,000 people tested for COVID-19 in Denmark, researchers also found that people with blood type O appear to be at the lowest risk of infection. Those with blood types A, B, and AB appear to be at similar levels of infection risk.

bluebeach · 08/01/2022 08:37

@reesewithoutaspoon yes it’s really interesting isn’t it? I had a google too. Not heard it mentioned before.

GypsyWanderer · 08/01/2022 20:39

DD14 has just had a positive lft and he had covid in October (testing only because he has a new cough). This will be the third time we’ve had covid in the house in the last 3 months we will see if me and DH catch it this time around.

Firesidefox · 08/01/2022 20:44

Yes, twice
