What's the likelihood of restrictions after 26th jan.

Plan B to stay in place for another 3 weeks as you know. What do you think the chances of more restrictions after that?? Would it be immediate? I guess there would be a few days notice?

It's my 30th birthday the weekend of the 29th. We've all just had covid and I was hoping to book a weekend away (in the U.K.) with Dp and dc. I'd be quite happy just to get away from the daily grind and watch tv in a hotel if it meant a break away 😅

Maybe I won't bother 🤷‍♀️

I think slim, if they've not done it by now they're not going to

AppleKatie · 06/01/2022 19:14

I think you’d be fine with this. If they bring in some restrictions it’s highly unlikely to be a full lockdown or restrict small family holidays - there’s several steps between where we are now and that.

OliveTree75 · 06/01/2022 19:15

I agreed, slim

CiderWithLizzie · 06/01/2022 19:15

I think it’s more likely that all restrictions will be scrapped then!

FanGirlX · 06/01/2022 19:20

Yes, I agree, or at least lifted with another "freedom day" a few weeks later.
GarethKeenanInvestigates · 06/01/2022 19:27

Honestly, I think they would have brought them in between christmas and new year if they were going to at all.

CirreltheSquirrel · 06/01/2022 19:31

It's my OH's 40th that weekend and I took the plunge and booked something this morning. It can be cancelled til the 27th though (even without restrictions there's the possibility of a positive test to mess up our plans!)

Watapalava · 06/01/2022 19:32

I think current restrictions will end

I’ve tw weekend always planned and a holiday booked for March

All ok with current restrictions so they defo won’t be cancelled as can’t see more coming in

Quartz2208 · 06/01/2022 19:35

At the moment they seem to be saying they will remove plan b. Think that might be a bit optimistic but I dont think we will get anymore in.

I went abroad over Christmas and it was fine

FindingMeno · 06/01/2022 19:36

I think we are now in the final throes of what the government will mandate and the public will tolerate.
Short of a new, more dangerous, variant cropping up ( please no), I can't see any further restrictions now.

llansannan11 · 06/01/2022 19:40

I don't expect any more restrictions in England.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/01/2022 19:43

I'm 99% confident there won't be any. It's pretty clear from the latest government actions (reducing isolation periods, scrapping testing for travel, scrapping PCRs if you have a positive lateral flow) that we're moving towards living with Covid completely unrestricted.

JangolinaPitt · 06/01/2022 19:46

No appetite for restrictions.
‘Omicron’ turned out to be a damp squib -lots of people contracted it, but just like a cold, at worst.
People will no longer believe the hype.

Chewbecca · 06/01/2022 19:48

I agree - slim.

Dependent on the current massive number of cases not turning into an increase in hospital admissions of course but I think we will ride it out.

MarshaBradyo · 06/01/2022 19:49

I think the window to have them will be passed by then

Should be ok

BFPDec21 · 06/01/2022 19:50

0 imo. How does the UK know how bad the pandemic or be aware of the scale of further strains if advice is not to have a PCR if you have a positive lateral flow test? The numbers will be skewed to show a massive decrease, surely?

RememberThePenguins · 06/01/2022 19:51

I think all the modelling implied that restrictions needed to be brought in before new year's to have any impact. The argument is that the peak is now "baked in" and so by end of January it should be heading downwards. So I think you'll be fine.

Kca29 · 06/01/2022 19:51

Thank you all. I haven't really been following much of the news, announcements or anything at the minute. Find it so depressing so tend to avoid!

Blubells · 06/01/2022 19:52

If they're happy to be fairly relaxed now (in the midst of the omicron wave), the Government will certainly not impose restrictions in a few weeks when cases are probably falling quite rapidly!

caringcarer · 06/01/2022 20:12

I don't think we will have more restrictions with Omecron. Let's hope no other more nasty variant on horizon. France is having over 300 k new cases a day.

Twinklingstarface · 06/01/2022 20:40

I think we are on the up now in terms of leaving restrictions behind- thank god.

VikingOnTheFridge · 06/01/2022 21:31

I think things would have to get a great deal worse in the next 3 weeks for there to be further restrictions. It isn't impossible, but Johnson's own party are currently strongly opposed and wouldn't allow it as things stand.

There's also the point made upthread about what the public will stand for. The pro-restriction sentiment that we saw earlier in the pandemic doesn't exist in the same way any more. It may be that it never comes back. For good or for ill, a lot of people were evidently complying/somewhat complying with the 2021 restrictions only on the understanding that this would be the final time, to allow for vaccination. So that's gone. And a lot of people believe Omicron is baked in and inevitable now.

That's just confirmed cases... The ONS estimated the U.K. had 4,3 million in the week following Christmas (1 in 15 people - 1 in 10 in London!) that's over 600,000 per day 😲
tootyfruitypickle · 06/01/2022 22:25

When we say restrictions removed - this is just masks now isn't it ? Hopefully removed in schools first then shops maybe in the spring ?
