What's the likelihood of restrictions after 26th jan.

Plan B to stay in place for another 3 weeks as you know. What do you think the chances of more restrictions after that?? Would it be immediate? I guess there would be a few days notice?

It's my 30th birthday the weekend of the 29th. We've all just had covid and I was hoping to book a weekend away (in the U.K.) with Dp and dc. I'd be quite happy just to get away from the daily grind and watch tv in a hotel if it meant a break away 😅

Maybe I won't bother 🤷‍♀️

When we say restrictions removed - this is just masks now isn't it ? Hopefully removed in schools first then shops maybe in the spring ?
And wfh
Cocoabutterformula · 06/01/2022 22:28

It's wfh too

tootyfruitypickle · 07/01/2022 06:23

Ah yes ok that's one restriction I would like to stay which is why I forgot about it!

Bluntness100 · 07/01/2022 06:28

Very unlikely. They will remove plan b at the end of Jan and it will pretty much go back to notmal.

Pixxie7 · 07/01/2022 06:54

Failing something awful happening I can’t see it, I think the PM is more concerned with self preservation than anything else. I think he back to ignorance is bliss.

CarrieBlue · 07/01/2022 07:25

Given that hospitals are now relying on the army and there’s rising numbers of over-60s in hospital, I’m not too confident that restrictions will disappear too quickly.

Blubells · 07/01/2022 08:00

Cases in London seem to be plateauing and hopefully coming down soon.

No appetite for restrictions. ‘Omicron’ turned out to be a damp squib -lots of people contracted it, but just like a cold, at worst. People will no longer believe the hype.
I expect the relatives of the 75 people who have died from Omicron (up to 29th December according to the UK Health Security Agency) might disagree.

Restrictions now are a waste of time. I think they’ll all be lifted personally.

Relative of one of the 75 here .

Squib. Damn autocorrect!

Plan B also includes proof of vaccine or negative lft before entry to larger venues and nightclubs
CornishYarg · 07/01/2022 09:11

@BFPDec21

0 imo. How does the UK know how bad the pandemic or be aware of the scale of further strains if advice is not to have a PCR if you have a positive lateral flow test? The numbers will be skewed to show a massive decrease, surely?
People are asked to register their positive lft result online, so would that mean the result is still counted in the daily figures? I think I read they strip out the positive lft results when there was a follow up positive pcr to avoid double counting, but if there's no follow up pcr then would the lft result still be included?
SpringRainbow · 07/01/2022 09:16

The tone in the media at the moment is really pushing for reduction/ removal of isolation. They are also talking about the ‘hope’ of restrictions being removed by the end of January.

There is also talk of Omicron being milder, and how we can ‘avoid’ a complete meltdown in the NHS.

The tone of the media is very much optimistic and in favour of restrictions being removed. There is the odd ‘scare’ story, but overall the tone is much different from the tone before Christmas.

I would only start worrying if the media starts going back to fear and panic.

No it’s not just that. It’s all the testing of kids, lateral flows that my 4 and 5 year old primary school kids are required to do every day if anyone in their house is positive. It’s worrying about every single sniffle and blocked nose / headache your child has and if you will need to take more unpaid time off work to wait days for a pcr. It’s not being able to see school plays or assemblies or sports days. It’s the threat of yet another years long awaited residential trip being cancelled It’s still a very dark cloud looming if you have school age kids.

I know someone who was related to a person who died recently, tested positive etc. That person was 100 years old. The relative doesn't disagree.

L0uby1 · 07/01/2022 10:15

Go and enjoy yourselves OP. I don't think there will be any more restrictions now. If anything. I think the appetite for public compliance is very small and the government know this.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/01/2022 10:16

What even is Plan B?

EvilPea · 07/01/2022 10:20

They seem to be unravelling restrictions not introducing them. It seems to be living with it is bringing the army in to deal with it, whilst we all pretend it’s not happening

Florianus · 07/01/2022 11:34

And I know someone who was 27 and died leaving two young children and a grieving husband. It is a huge mistake, made by many, to think that only the elderly die of this virus.

They will until the next bad variant comes along.
southeastdweller · 07/01/2022 12:03

I think they'll extend Plan B for about a month and we should have a fairly 'normal' spring and summer. I never thought I'd type this but the government are doing the right thing at the moment with the current restrictions and resisting (unwarranted) locking down the country.

MarshaBradyo · 07/01/2022 12:08

It may not be extended and talks earlier re testing changing so maybe things will feel very different in short term

Enzbear · 07/01/2022 12:11

And I know two young people who have died of cancer, one who almost certainly should have survived because they couldn't get treatment etc etc. But that's ok because the 99 year old got to live another year.
