How long did you have to wait for PCR test results.?

Was showing symptoms over the weekend - runny nose, cough and sore throat. Managed to order a LFT that I took on Monday, tested positive, But today I feel fine.

Ordered PCR that came today and has been sent back in the post - it says 24 hours tracked. I've heard stories that people are having to wait over a week for the results.

What are the chances they PCR will come back positive?
Has anyone else had this and what was your PCR result?
How long did you have to wait for the results?

Sorry for the many questions - I lost one elderly family member last year and naturally am anxious about this whole mess now I could potentially have it.

Hope everyone is ok

Thank you in advance

He said a friend heard back after 6 days.

We’ve always had our results back within 24-36 hours, both postal and drive through (although the latter tend to be a bit quicker).

Hall84 · 05/01/2022 22:28

Drive through results came through in about 24 hours after a test Sunday afternoon.

tinkerbellvspredator · 05/01/2022 22:30

Did a walk in Monday evening, result through in less than 24 hours

Change123today · 05/01/2022 22:32

We did a drive through yesterday at 2:30pm results by midnight- really surprised how quick it was! Even though it was positive but not unexpected.

KurtWilde · 05/01/2022 22:35

Eldest DD posted hers on Monday, still no results.

CaramelFlaneur · 06/01/2022 00:44

We waited 4 days for a postal PCR result last week. It also took 4 days for the tests to arrive in the first place so we'd completed isolation by the time we got the result.

Kitkat151 · 06/01/2022 01:03

I’ve currently been waiting 42 hours for a walk through per pcr result

WillYouDoTheFandango · 06/01/2022 07:44

Between my sister and I we sent off 5 postal tests on Sunday. The first result just came back this morning. Three are still outstanding.

If your LFT was positive it’s very likely your PCR will be even though you feel fine.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/01/2022 07:49

Family member posted Tuesday this week, results back Wednesday

Sockpile · 06/01/2022 07:50

Postal came back yesterday after 36 hours.

HoldenCaulfieldismyhomeboy · 06/01/2022 12:32

I posted Tuesday morning. They received the test Wednesday morning. I'm still waiting today (thursday).

pradavilla · 06/01/2022 12:44

ovenchips · 06/01/2022 12:59

We posted 2 on Monday and still haven't heard (Thurs afternoon).

orangina01 · 06/01/2022 13:27

If you have a positive lateral flow it is extremely likely you have it. A false positive lat flow is rare despite anecdotal comments on here. I'm sorry, but remember you are very likely to cope well. Rest up and try not to worry too much. Good luck!

Theunamedcat · 06/01/2022 13:31

Sent back via courier on the 31st still waiting

somehowsunshine · 06/01/2022 13:32

Drive through test in south east. 11:30. Got results back 26 hours later.

Kite22 · 06/01/2022 16:10

ds's has just come through in the last hour - posted Sunday afternoon, but his dp's, posted at same time, not heard yet.

Borisblackcat · 06/01/2022 18:33

Dd posted Tuesday afternoon. Nothing back yet but the post box was rammed with test boxes so could be a while.
How do you know if the test has actually arrived?

SmallestInTheClass · 06/01/2022 20:21

Walk through was 4 days, home test 2 days.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 06/01/2022 23:55

If you sent via Royal Mail @Borisblackcat the instruction book told you to make a note of the postage number on the front of the return box. You can track that on the Royal Mail website.

Borisblackcat · 07/01/2022 17:08

Thanks. She made a note of the bar code number but not the postal tracking on the box. Still waiting.

yorkshireteaparty · 07/01/2022 19:01

@Borisblackcat Same here. I posted a pcr on Tuesday and still nothing. Relieved to hear it's not just me

CrazySnakeWoman · 07/01/2022 19:02

Posted on Tuesday (4th), results came just after midnight last night.

Choconuttolata · 07/01/2022 19:07
