Isolation rules confusion

I can't make head nor tail of the rules currently, I have tested positive, got a positive on day 6 and 7 too so I've told work I can't return today(day 8) my son tested positive yesterday, as I'm an unvaccinated close contact it seems I'm mean to isolate for 10 days,is this correct? Work are implying they won't pay me if I'm off work due to my son having covid, but he's 9 ok not prepared to leave him home alone to attend work. Whats the rule with regards to childcare? Doubt I'll be able to send him to school or child inder of he's covid positive so what do work expect me to do?

Just don't plan based on the 6/7 day testing- mine are still strong positives on day 7 so earliest I will be out of isolation is day 9 🙁

No, many, many employers only pay SSP. You get nothing at all for the first 3 days then £96.35 per week after that.

@Nidan2Sandan

It's just one of those things with being a parent, kid cant go to school as they're sick so parent cant go to work.

What did you do before when he has been sick? Surely he's had chickenpox or a stomach bug or something?? Both of those are rather infectious too

But in those scenarios you might be able to ask family or friends to help. With covid you can't have anyone else to help. It's a problem that surely disproportionately affects women. If you're a single parent what are you meant to do if you don't get paid for 10 days ?!

@CrocodilesCry about 2 years ago when he was last very ill,I mean didn't eat for days couldn't walk to the toilet,i was told to send him to a childminder and was only paid for one day leave, no way would she have taken him even if I'd have asked which I didn't,so I don't hold much hope,she's not very empathetic towards children and it's been suggested I send him away when I've had problems due to the pandemic meaning we couldn't mix houeeholds so I had no-one to help with childcare

@Badassbreastfeeder85 - but are you paid by the local authority? Are your payslips from the council? If so you should be paid - call their HR.
