Isolation rules confusion

I can't make head nor tail of the rules currently, I have tested positive, got a positive on day 6 and 7 too so I've told work I can't return today(day 8) my son tested positive yesterday, as I'm an unvaccinated close contact it seems I'm mean to isolate for 10 days,is this correct? Work are implying they won't pay me if I'm off work due to my son having covid, but he's 9 ok not prepared to leave him home alone to attend work. Whats the rule with regards to childcare? Doubt I'll be able to send him to school or child inder of he's covid positive so what do work expect me to do?

You’re not a close contact if you just passed it on to your son as you’ve just had it.
You should be able to return to work immediately

But yes sorry you won’t be able to send him to school.
Rules are unclear here as clearly he needs looking after. My employer would be very flexible about wfh in this case.

Was he isolating with you?
You don't have to restart your own isolation but he does have to isolate now for 10 days.

You'll probably need to use annual leave or take unpaid leave to stay off with him.

You might be able to claim statutory sick pay if off because of his positive test.

She can't return to work until she gets 2 x negative tests or her 10 day isolation passes

You can get a government grant for £500 for loss of earnings due to covid isolation

If I still test positive say on day 11 do I still need to isolate?I work I'm a school so can't wfh and I have the potential to infect lots of households

I don't get annual leave and vat really afford to take a week unpaid when legally I've got to keep him home,seems a bit unfair

They don't have to pay you if it's for child care reasons but they should give you one day to sort emergency care out. What do you usually do if he's sick? You need to isolate until day 10 as you are still positive on lft, that they cannot contest and comes under the sick leave policy. There's government grants available in some circumstances but not sure if this meets the criteria

You are not entitled to be paid if your son is off with Covid unless time off paid with sick children is in your contract (unlikely).

As there was no break between you testing positive/isolating and your son testing positive your isolation period does not have to re-start as an unvaccinated contact.

If there had been a break and you were told you had to self isolate as a contact you should be able to get SSP with no waiting days.

The one day to sort emergency care is unpaid (unless it’s in your contract that it’s paid).

You say you don’t get holidays. Is that because your holiday time is fixed eg education?

But what childcare options do I have? Doubt his old childminder would be happy to have him back

You will have to take unpaid leave or parental leave. Your work may give you a couple of days paid carers leave and you may be able to claim from the govt but it's quite standard that an employer will only pay a couple of days if as a parent you have to be off work for childcare. Quite a few public sector places will pay for five days per year as standard for emergency childcare but after that it's annual leave or unpaid. You could ask if there is any online training you could do from home ?

It's not a personal thing to you it would be the same for any employee. Have you not had the same thing if your child has had chicken pox or a vomiting bug where there are isolation rules that school enforce ?
schools need all the help they can get regarding not sending covid positive kids to school. If you work in a school then surely you appreciate that it's not a great idea for covid positive kids to be in school ?

It would be the same if he had a notifiable illness too.

You need to return to work on day 11 but considering your son is positive you either need to take non paid leave or if there’s anyone in your household that can look after him they can. It’s crap but unfortunately it’s what’s happened.

Yeah we can blame Boris et al for a lot of things but giving covid to your child might be a bit of a stretch!

What do you do at the school?

It’s something all parents have to think about. What they will do if their child is ill and you cannot work.

But also if i dont get paid that has serious implications for me and my child

Or elderly parents. Dh had to take unpaid leave to care for his mum with dementia when his dad went into hospital suddenly.

I didn't say he gave him covid,at all,but I can't send him to school because rhe government says he needs to isolate for 10 days,I won't get paid unless I leave him home alone,he's 9 I'm not comfortable with that, just seems a bit unfair
