To be horrified at kids being 'labelled' like this ?

DD senior school age goes back tomorrow - no exemptions and she will be masked up as requested despite my absolute disgust at the policy. The school has asserted that children with exemptions will need to provide proof and will be made to wear a badge or lanyard to show their exemption on school property and transport.
AIBU to be horrified that children will be 'badged' like this - surely not wearing the mask is sufficient to show their exemption for a policy that is advisory and with zero proof of efficacy ?

It's annoying that Uni students don't have to wear masks. Poor uni staff Sad.

Just reread the OP

"DD senior school age goes back tomorrow - no exemptions and she will be masked up as requested despite my absolute disgust at the policy. The school has asserted that children with exemptions will need to provide proof"

So there are exemptions?

BHX3000 · 04/01/2022 12:01

And for those saying masks don’t work, I guess you’d also be happy for surgeons, nurses, dentists, and people working in food production, to not wear one if they don’t feel like it? They don’t work, so why bother… 🙄

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 12:02

Our government can't evidence it yet because this is the first time that masks all day is being required

Did you miss March-May?

Whitefire · 04/01/2022 12:02

@FflosFfantastig

It's absolutely abhorrent. I'm with you OP. Medical conditions should be personal to the individual.
It doesn't have any medical details or reasons for not wearing one on the little sticker that ds has. Seriously he is not wearing a mask, I'm not sure why a small sticker makes it worse. The reasons aren't shared to all.

Oh Christ not this bollocks again Confused
NYnewstart · 04/01/2022 12:05

Most kids in schools are unvaccinated. People in the wider world aren’t.

Just do your bit op, and others.

Wiredforsound · 04/01/2022 12:05

Jesus Christ, just get on with it and stop whining.

BHX3000 · 04/01/2022 12:05

Why is it bollocks? Genuinely interested.

Definitely
LaChanticleer · 04/01/2022 12:05

for a policy that is advisory and with zero proof of efficacy ?
Well you’re wrong about efficacy. Time and again scientists patiently explain that masks inhibit the spread of aerosol droplets by which this virus is spread.

Belladonna12 · 04/01/2022 12:06

Surely not wearing a mask is a "label" . The Lanyard will mean that they don't keep being asked why.

espressotogo · 04/01/2022 12:06

The government won’t because they’re being held by the balls aka the nut job backbench MPs on the conservative benches. Who think they know better than actual experts.

My ds is in secondary school and is happy to wear a mask. He’s been wearing it in class even without needing too - without any prompting from me or other adults. I’m glad he’s got a sensible head on his shoulders.

Do you mean the MPs that backed no further restrictions because there was no evidence that they were needed and it now appears that they were right ? Do you mean 'experts' like Prof Ferguson who has got every prediction completely wrong ? What about the experts who say that there is no evidence that mask wearing makes any difference or do you only follow the naysayers? Well done you for having a son who blindly accepts what he is told despite no evidence to back it up ? Personally I would rather my DC challenge things that don't make sense !

I honestly don't get the big deal with it, my son often gets a letter from the gp in the spring/summer to make him exempt from wearing a tie at school because of his hay fever, no big deal!
Just gets a uniform pass

coogee · 04/01/2022 12:07

Where I work, they do. So do staff.

Sockpile · 04/01/2022 12:07

My DS was given an exemption card. On the odd days he wasn’t wearing a mask (usually because he had lost of broke it)he would have to show the card a few times a day. It would have been easier to have a lanyard so teachers could quickly see he was exempt.

LaurenKelsey · 04/01/2022 12:08

OP, wearing a mask is very little to ask when you consider the need to control/end Covid. We ALL need to make these SMALL sacrifices for the greater good.

espressotogo · 04/01/2022 12:08

for a policy that is advisory and with zero proof of efficacy ?
Well you’re wrong about efficacy. Time and again scientists patiently explain that masks inhibit the spread of aerosol droplets by which this virus is spread.

So then why cant they evidence this and why has it had no effect in Wales and Scotland ? And why are there plenty of experts who disagree ??

Masks do make sense. That’s why Plan B has masks. Hmm

The NHS is on its knees again, because of the ridiculous decision to not introduce better measures sooner. This is what happened last time - luckily I don’t think we will get a lockdown but lockdowns happen because our government leave it until it’s too late.

I would rather listen to scientists who have training and experience in public health and epidemiology than self-serving MPs who are chasing votes in elections.

pointythings · 04/01/2022 12:10

Horrified? We're in a global pandemic. Everyone should be doing everything they can, however small the effects, to prevent the spread. If your DD can't wear a mask then the least you and she can do is make that clear to people. Don't be precious.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 04/01/2022 12:10

@espressotogo

Surely not wearing a mask is sufficient ? It is in the wider world ?
In the wider world (ie other countries) there is hardly any mask exemption. The relaxed rule in the UK means that many people don't want to wear masks and claim they have exemptions. One of my friends doesn't wear a mask here, but has just visited his sister in the Middle East. Of course he wears a mask there because he has to. Is it really such a big deal to have to prove you have a real exemption?
Chaotica · 04/01/2022 12:11

And where I work too, although some universities have been less strict.
Babyvenusplant · 04/01/2022 12:11

I can't imagine kids would give a shit about wearing a lanyard if it meant they didn't have to keep being asked to wear a mask. Just be grateful teacher's and school staff are actually continuing to do a risky bloody job to keep your children in school

noblegiraffe · 04/01/2022 12:11

So then why cant they evidence this

Why are you ignoring the evidence you've been shown?

Iggly · 04/01/2022 12:11

Mask wearing has been evidenced. People have linked to it.

Where are you getting your information from OP? Which experts?
