To be horrified at kids being 'labelled' like this ?

DD senior school age goes back tomorrow - no exemptions and she will be masked up as requested despite my absolute disgust at the policy. The school has asserted that children with exemptions will need to provide proof and will be made to wear a badge or lanyard to show their exemption on school property and transport.
AIBU to be horrified that children will be 'badged' like this - surely not wearing the mask is sufficient to show their exemption for a policy that is advisory and with zero proof of efficacy ?

I didn't say the vaccines don't work because I do believe they work for lowering severe illness, which is good! And it's how we have protected everyone. Yay to the vaccine!

I am triple jabbed and will continue to take whatever vaccine comes next, so please don't misunderstand my stance ( deliberately or otherwise)

We are a highly vaccinated country, but recently had the highest number of Covid cases ( per day) to date. It's as transmissible as ever, despite the jabs.

But the admissions and deaths are lower, I'm pro vaccine purely for this fact.

There will come a point when we stop masks, mandatory tests, PCRs, vaccine passports, isolation etc

When though?

"Transmissible as ever" is simply not the case. Not on the basis of the study you've quoted that cites a drop in transmissions in a highly closed setting, not in the larger studies both peer-reviewed and awaiting peer review, and not in the real world figures.

I am not misunderstanding your stance at all.

No, I did not erroneously omit anything, I didn't consider household vs population research. I just happened to read that article and then someone asked me to post a link.

I'm the general public, I'm not medically trained or scientifically qualified to predict all the many testing scenarios that could take place, with a multitude of variables

We can all find supporting arguments if we interpret the data hard enough. Is the nature of statistical studies. [/quote]
We can indeed.
That's why it's a good idea for all of us to take care how we interpret the stuff we read. It's also helpful to post links to our sources so people don't accuse us of manipulation or misinterpretation of data in order to find figures that suit our agenda.

Maybe those parents who are so convinced mask dont work should home school so the rest of the children can get an education relatively risk free. Its a mask it's not the bloody iron mask ffs

DroopyClematis · 05/01/2022 19:24

They are labelled with a , now useless , lanyard or without a mask.

Does it really matter?

Just wear an effing mask.

Unfortunately, for most of the general public, it's a case of misinterpreting the data hard enough.

No it's not enough simply not to wear a mask. You clearly haven't been in a situation where you need to manage 1000+ students. There will be students who don't want to wear a mask and will constantly defy rules, there will be a number who try to argue they can't wear one without any reason. By having it in a lanyard it takes the potential conflict out of a situation by which the student won't need to be questioned by the many members of staff they see that day and means that the ones who are deliberately flaunting the rules can be dealt with.

Yes, that's what I said

No, you said interpret the data. Interpret suggests that they have some level of understanding. Most people misinterpret the data and twist it to suit their own agenda.

Rather than be horrified about children having to wear a mask, perhaps be horrified that in US nearly 700 children a day are being hospitalised due to Omicron. If that happens here it means over 100 children a day will be hospitalised and probably most of them unvaccinated.

@espressotogo it is guidance not rules. Watched on FB - Talk Radio - interview between Francis Hoar and Mike Graham. fb.watch/alMmnI7RHV/

Well said, and if masks reduce that number even a little they're worth having in classrooms.

Must say most kids wore masks today which no fuss/nagging
