Have you/they been questioned about why they aren't wearing a mask?

Just wondering as I have a shortish nearly 11 year old and a tall 8 year old who are the same height. Nearly 11 year old will have to start wearing a mask soon so wondering if my 8 year old should start wearing an exemption lanyard. I admit I'm probably over thinking this and nobody will care less whether my 8 year old is still young enough to not need to wear a mask or not.

OP posts:

My 10 year old is almost as tall as me 1m63 and her mask wearing has never been questioned.
She sometimes wears one and sometimes doesn't.
Tbh if anyone asked i would tell them that she's only 10 just very tall & expect them to accept that. I suppose I could go on fb & show them her 10th birthday party but it seems a little unnecessary.....

Children under 11 are automatically exempt. So don’t worry OP, they are Exempt. And if anyone asks, that is all that needs to be said.

I cannot believe anyone would want children to wear facemasks. Good grief, what has happened to us?

Remmy123 · 02/01/2022 23:26

No - I do not make my 12 year old wear one and I've never been questioned.

Today I dropped mine in a puddle and was unable to wear one at all in sainsburys ... no one said a thing!

I quite like that my children feel some social responsibility and want to do something fairly simple that may make a difference to others.
SoftSheen · 02/01/2022 23:30

Why can't the both wear facemarks anyway?

BungleandGeorge · 02/01/2022 23:32

Mine just wore a mask before they turned 11. If they’re tall enough to be face to face with adults it seems to make sense that they wear a mask to prevent transmission.

thaegumathteth · 02/01/2022 23:34

It's 5+ in Scotland for mask wearing so dd has always worn one anyways and when we were on holiday in England last summer she just still did

Joolsin · 02/01/2022 23:44

They could just wear a mask anyway. 8/9 year olds and up wear masks to school here in Ireland.

Mochacino · 02/01/2022 23:59

Very tall 9 year old. They wear a mask which they choose to and I support.

Sarahplane · 03/01/2022 00:13

Where are you OP? Are you in the UK? My 10 year old wears a mask in shops etc because he's over 5. I thought all over 5 years olds have to? I thought over 12 only applied in schools and surely your sons school will know his age?

RedCandyApple · 03/01/2022 00:14

Nope it’s under 11s exempt in England

Mine wants to wear one as she has a social conscience. Children all over the world are wearing them, from much younger than 8. So weird that people get their knickers in such a twist.

buckleten · 03/01/2022 00:45

Mine want to wear them, and believe it's the right thing to do at this time.

SunflowersInTheShade · 03/01/2022 00:49

DD is 16 and can't wear one. She's never been questioned.
At 8 I wouldn't worry.

DdraigGoch · 03/01/2022 00:56

Plenty of groen adults going around without masks and no one questions them.

And no, I'm not on about those who are exempt. I'm thinking of the four hungover men on the train yesterday morning.

No it isn't, it changed to 12+ months ago
Fallagain · 03/01/2022 07:23

I was questioned about age when my 5 year old took her’s off in a Spanish airport. She was under the required age but is very tall.

Woeismethischristmas · 03/01/2022 07:28

My 11yo is tall and we’ve never been asked. I’d just say he’s under 12 if anyone did and that’d be the end of it.

Woeismethischristmas · 03/01/2022 07:30

The school bus driver has asked that the children wear masks whilst it’s cold season. Fair enough.

WinterCarlisle · 03/01/2022 08:53

My non NT 8 year old is nearly the same height as my NT 12 year old. They both wear masks as the 8 year old is the only one who’s not yet had one jab.

frizzyandfrazzled · 03/01/2022 08:58

No my 10 year is exempt. I rarely take her shopping (as she hates it!) and she hates the feeling of a mask (says she can't breathe - she is funny about materials and clothes so I get this) I'll introduce it slowly later in the hear IF I need to. I'd actually prefer people kept their distance shopping and kept to small groups if possible!

BertieQueen · 03/01/2022 08:59

Can not see a child being questioned, when adults are not.

My child wasn’t questioned last year and he is very tall for his age and looks much older.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 03/01/2022 09:00

Never. I also have an exempt 14yo who looks older and he has never been asked either.

Frazzled2207 · 03/01/2022 09:02

Mask adherence is really poor round here (NW), no one would bat an eyelid

Redwinestillfine · 03/01/2022 09:06

Who are these people lining up to question kids?
