Have you/they been questioned about why they aren't wearing a mask?

Just wondering as I have a shortish nearly 11 year old and a tall 8 year old who are the same height. Nearly 11 year old will have to start wearing a mask soon so wondering if my 8 year old should start wearing an exemption lanyard. I admit I'm probably over thinking this and nobody will care less whether my 8 year old is still young enough to not need to wear a mask or not.

Where are you? My ds 9 is tall but never been asked about masks.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 02/01/2022 22:49

They could just wear a mask anyway?

TheGreatATuin · 02/01/2022 22:54

Mine is super tall but wears a mask anyway so it's not come up.

Quornflakegirl · 02/01/2022 22:54

My dc are 9 but look 11-12 as very tall. Never been questioned about it.

DelurkingAJ · 02/01/2022 22:55

No, DS1 is into age 10-11 clothing at 9 and nobody has blinked.

Atla · 02/01/2022 22:56

My ds9 is very tall, looks about 12. We have never been questioned, he's happy enough to wear a mask if asked though so I just take a spare.

Hellocatshome · 02/01/2022 22:57

Did anyone question them last time we were supposed to wear masks in shops etc? If not then that's your answer. I have never witnessed or heard about any children being questioned on their mask wearing. But they could always just wear one if you think it my be an issue.

ShowOfHands · 02/01/2022 22:57

10yo DS is in age 12-13 clothes for height. He's exempt but has never been asked. Nobody says anything. His parents and teenaged dsis are clearly masked so I assume people correctly infer there's a reason why he isn't.

timtam23 · 02/01/2022 22:58

My younger DS is the same height as my older one (who has to wear a mask) no one has ever questioned the younger one. Most people in my experience really don't seem too bothered about children out and about without masks on. I would never ask, as would assume they were either under 11 or exempt

RedCandyApple · 02/01/2022 22:58

Nope 🤷‍♀️ Older Kids 10 9 and 7 almost 8 no one has ever asked

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/01/2022 22:59

Never been asked. But she mostly wears one anyway. (Especially when going to the shop alone).

She does look child like despite her height though, compared to her friends.

scrivette · 02/01/2022 22:59

My 10 year old is about average height, so could be mistaken for 11. He sometimes wears a mask and sometimes doesn't, but has never been questioned about wearing one before.

Slayduggee · 02/01/2022 22:59

Does you 8 year old want to wear a mask?

backoncmoretime · 02/01/2022 22:59

My ds is 11 and never worn a mask and never been asked

liveforsummer · 02/01/2022 22:59

Where are you? City here and no one is bothering kids or adults for that matter as people are exempt for various reasons

Thatsplentyjack · 02/01/2022 23:01

If anyone asks just tell them he's only 8 🤷‍♀️

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/01/2022 23:01

I have a tall 8yo. No one has ever said anything. People aren't questioning anyway, I've never seen anyone asked why they aren't wearing a mask.

bringmelaughter · 02/01/2022 23:02

They could just both wear masks?

treeflowercat · 02/01/2022 23:11

Surely they just wear a mask unless there's a good reason not to?! It's not like they're a little kid, and we know children can get a spread Covid in the same way adults do.

BunsyGirl · 02/01/2022 23:15

I have a tall 8 year old in 11-12 clothes. No one has ever questioned why he isn’t wearing a mask.

Sausagis · 02/01/2022 23:16

My 10 yo is 5 foot 4 so adult height. She chooses to wear a mask.

TerraNovaTwo · 02/01/2022 23:17

DC is very tall and broad in age 14 clothes and hasn't been questioned.

Comedycook · 02/01/2022 23:18

My dd is 11 and exempt. No one has said a word. I think vast vast majority of people would draw the line at questioning why a child wasn't wearing a mask.

treeflowercat · 02/01/2022 23:20

Also, it seems a bit weird to suddenly put a mask on a child on their 12th birthday simply because it's "the rules", but resort to getting an "exempt" lanyard if they're under 12 in case they get asked...

It seems like you're very keen to obey the law to the letter even if there's no realistic chance of you getting into trouble, but you have j no regard for the spirit of the law. I find that hard as I tend to be the complete opposite when it comes to law abiding.

Seb342 · 02/01/2022 23:24

No one should be questioning anyone who's not wearing a mask full stop. And yes I wear one all day because I have to but we don't question customers who don't have them on because we are not doctors and we don't get paid enough.
