Anybody been in close contact with Omicron and NOT caught it?

As the thread title suggests, I’m keen to hear if anybody has been in close contact with somebody with Omicron and managed to not catch it? It seems within my group of friends/colleagues everybody who knows they have been in close contact with somebody with omicron (within a couple of days of a them testing positive) has gone on to test positive, despite most/all being vaccinated.

I know it’s much more transmissible than delta and previous strains, but is it really getting almost everyone it comes into contact with?

I wasn’t able to see my family over Christmas for various reasons and am due to stay with them this coming week (had planned to go to them on Wednesday), but my dad has just informed me that my brother was round with them for much of Thursday and then tested positive yesterday. I’m gutted about the thought of my parents testing positive and not being able to see them. Hoping for some hope, if you get what I mean.

It's impossible to say because your PCR result just says you have COVID. It doesn't say whether it's Omicron or any other variant I'm afraid.

ABitOfAShitShow · 01/01/2022 13:29

Me! Was in a 2 foot range of the affected all night before they tested positive on an LFT. And the night before that we were both in my living room for about 6 hours - although there’s nothing to say they were contagious at that point.

Alisonb1234 · 01/01/2022 13:31

My sister and I spent all day Xmas eve with our parents (early 60s, tripled jabbed) stayed over and we both tested positive Christmas lunchtime. We were more careful after that but we did stay til half way through boxing day, including my mum giving me a half hour lift home. Neither of my parents caught it from us (they've done a LFT every day since)

dementedpixie · 01/01/2022 13:32

My dh tested positive on LFT on Wednesday. I've been in the same room and bed and I'm still negative on LFT and have no symptoms. He has a runny nose, scratchy throat and low level sore head.

FMSucks · 01/01/2022 13:32

Me OP. Was in close contact with SIL and BIL both on Christmas Day (they came over for dinner) and Monday we went out for dinner, hugs at end. BIL tested positive on the Tuesday, SIL on the Wednesday. I’m fine so far as is everyone else. I am double jabbed and had covid in august. I have not had my booster. I know I could still get it but so far, so good.

lanbro · 01/01/2022 13:34

Out of 8 of us close family who spent Christmas Day together only my youngest dd has escaped it! We all tested positive beginning of the week but she's still testing negative today

Snowiscold · 01/01/2022 13:34

My relative was a close contact with someone with omicron and they didn’t get it.

saywhatwhatnow · 01/01/2022 13:35

Don't know if it was definitely OMICRON but DH went for drinks with 4 mates and he was the only one who didn't test positive over the next 48 hours. Had a negative pcr 4 days post meeting. He was the only one out of the group who has previously had covid (6months ago) though, so I think he had some natural immunity.

Arcadia · 01/01/2022 13:36

My DP was in an office all day with a colleague the Tuesday before Christmas who tested positive on the Wednesday, convinced he would get it but didn't!

JorisBonson · 01/01/2022 13:36

DH has had symptoms for 6 days and had positive PCR back on Thursday. We've been together all week and I'm still testing negative.

Tinseltrauma · 01/01/2022 13:40

I tested positive on the 16th December, pretty sure it was Omicron as my main symptom was a rash. DH and my two sons all still testing negative.

BluebellsGreenbells · 01/01/2022 13:44

Me - 3 hours with 3 positives the next day
DD spent the day bowling meals out skating etc with two positives - still negative a week later
DS 4 friends positive and nothing.
Other DD works at a restaurant - now closed due to staff issues - still negative

Friend DH positive Christmas Eve round 3 others all decided to isolate together as it was Christmas - no one else caught it.

It happens!

That’s not to say we aren’t waiting for it to happen.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/01/2022 13:49

I was at the pub with a friend on the 22nd, hugged her and sat next to her for 3 hours. She tested positive on an LFT the next day and PCR came back positive a couple of days later. I did daily LFTs for the next 7 days as suggested by track and trace, all negative so I assume I didn't catch it.

I don't know if it was Omicron or not though as I don't think you get told any more?

Neverkins · 01/01/2022 13:55

Ok, there is some hope then, by the sounds of it. Thank you for all the replies.

Yes, I should have clarified that I don’t know for sure that it’s been omicron my friends/colleagues have caught - it’s just an assumption based on the cases being within the last two weeks. I know delta is still around but I thought the vast majority of cases are (thought to be?) Omicron currently. Also, everybody I know who’s tested positive has had mild cold-type symptoms and fatigue at worst, thankfully, which I thought was more in line with Omicron.

My BIL has likely had Omicron- they live in London, he had a sore throat but otherwise no symptoms. My sister tested negative throughout his isolation.

They both had Alpha last Xmas, if that makes a difference!

Luckingfovely · 01/01/2022 14:04

Another one here - one of the DC got it, but nobody else in the house.

batmanladybird · 01/01/2022 14:06

Well this. But also my DTD tested positive on 9.12 with symptoms of headache and cough. No temp. We weren't told if it was omicron Her sister who shared a room and goes everywhere she goes didn't get it. She was also not sleeping well so unusually for her came to get into our bed and slept three nights between me and my dh We were both fine.
Starcup · 01/01/2022 14:06

My best friends went for a trim at the hairdresser and 3 days after she got a call from her hairdresser saying she has tested positive for Covid….

Friend done her lateral flows for the following days and were all negative. Friend came to stay with fir for a few nights after 5 days of potential exposure.

None of us have it

kelseypops · 01/01/2022 14:08

DS tested positive on 20th dec, dd tested positive on 28th dec, my mum on 29th dec and ds3 tested positive on 30th dec. i am still negative and have been in the same house as covid over 12 days now. I believe DS started with covid around 18th dec.

I just wonder if I had it before DS, although I have tested myself regularly.

Lovelydovey · 01/01/2022 14:08

Yes. DS2 had it (barely more than sniffles). DH, DS1 and I all avoided it - despite being in the house with barely more than a token effort to try and avoid catching it (windows open, encouraged to use separate bathroom but didn’t…).

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/01/2022 14:11

Fil was negative for Christmas day festivities, we were in a small lounge with him for 5 hours, he kept topping up my drink so very close to me but we didn't do the usual kiss on the cheek with him or SIL just in case.

He tested positive Boxing Day morning as he was going to see his brother so was making sure he was still negative. Booked PCR for that afternoon, PCR confirmed.

He had no symptoms until 1 day after the positive LFTs. Woke with a slight sore throat. Even now just had a slight runny nose, slight sore throat and a bit of a croaky voice. He said if he didn't know any different he would just assume the start of a cold. He is doubled vaccinated and boosted.

None of us have tested positive. SIL, Dh and myself are double vaccinated and boosted. Ds1 has his booster this week, Ds2 is 15 so has only had one vaccine. We are all coming up negative on nasal LFT tests.

lisaw75 · 01/01/2022 14:34

I thought I was the only one to escape in my family as I've had negative lfts all through, but actually my pcr came back positive. My symtoms are bad chest and upper back pain and dizziness , no cold like symtoms or anything that I would have thought was covid so id never have known at all

JustABloodyMinute · 01/01/2022 14:35

Don't know for sure if it was Omicron but I live with someone who tested positive on Xmas day and so far I have consistently tested negative (PCR & LFTs).

Opihr · 01/01/2022 14:36

Me, so far. Dc1 tested positive on 20th Dec, closely followed by all the rest of the family, but I'm still negative, amazingly!

PineappleWilson · 01/01/2022 15:46

Eight adults were in a combination of family groups, Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. All tested positive on Wed / Thurs despite all having negative lateral flows between Christmas Day and Mon 27th. The two children tested positive on Thursday and today respectively, so we think they caught it from their parents this week rather than through the person who was positive at Christmas. 100% of the family positive despite negative lateral flows, all adults boostered except one, windows open etc. and no more than 9 people together. I'd presume you're going to get it I'm afraid.
