Should I do a forty mile round trip and get it done today or book a home test, which I suspect will be delayed.

I had cold/flu symptoms for 2 days before the LFT picked them up. Luckily I went for a PCR on day 2 which picked up that I had covid as the LFTs didn’t. It doesn’t seem like a waste of resources if you genuinely think you might have covid…

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 07:45

Peanut, it was actually just in my region, the north east. Others were showing up as ok

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 07:48

Booked for later today. I did just cough, once, so feel less like a liar, although was probably just clearing my throat!

ThievesTemple · 01/01/2022 09:36

Tim Spectre from the Zoe study app has been calling for the government to update the symptoms list for many months as they no longer match the main symptoms people are reporting. Ignore their incompetence and good luck with your test.

lotusbell · 01/01/2022 09:48

I went to my doctor last Wednesday about my ears. All my lat flows were negative, ge told me to get a pcr just in case (didn't have any other 'symptoms', was just a head cold really although the tickly cough i had did get worse). I stupidly sent off for a postal obe which arrived the next day, I did it and posted back. Result Boxing Day. Drive thru ones do seem to yield faster results, even with the festive period delays. I'm NW though so appreciate it is different elsewhere.

BikeMyCycle · 01/01/2022 10:08

If you download the Zoe study app and put those symptoms in, it will suggest you get a PCR and the gov website has that as an option (ie been asked to get a PCR by XYZ)

WhoWants2Know · 01/01/2022 12:15

I'm in the same boat and there are no tests within the region. Home test for me, then!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/01/2022 13:07

@StealthPolarBear I made a similar post in November as all I had was a headache and achy legs plus a general feeling of tiredness and something not being right. Everyone said get a pcr so I did and tested positive. The other classic symptoms came a few days later.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/01/2022 13:09

I did do an lft first though and it was very dark. I would just go and get a pcr asap but don't go 40 miles as I found driving a bit much. Take care.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/01/2022 13:11

@StealthPolarBear

I can't. I don't have any of thr three main symptoms.
Yes you can. Go through the zoe app, or lie. The list needs updating and you need a PCR.
Orchidflower1 · 01/01/2022 15:44

Hope you got to your test ok @StealthPolarBear and that you feel better soon.
Never in this whole pandemic have I personally known so many people with covid.

nevergoesaway · 01/01/2022 15:50

Why won’t they update the list of symptoms? It’s so weird! There surely must have been a lot of undiagnosed positive people spreading the virus over the past few months believing they can’t have covid because they don’t have one of the “big three”.

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 16:37

Not just believing but being told by the government that you're OK to continue as normal!

OP posts:
teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/01/2022 16:51

The government can't be trusted. Honestly I did not have the 'big 3' and some family have tested positive the last day or so that didn't have any symptoms.

MehMahMoo · 01/01/2022 17:02

It's ridiculous tgat they haven't updated the symptoms list. Of the 5 of us in this house who have just had it, only I had a regular symptom (high temp) the rest just had cold symptoms. After 1 LFT, I didn't realise rules had changed and got 4 of us pcr'd - 2 of us were positive. Then Zoe sent the rest of us a few days later because of runny nose/tight chest... and tada. LFTs positive we're later than cold symptoms and PCR tests but before the PCR results came in.

nevergoesaway · 01/01/2022 17:28

Exactly! It’s no wonder this country is so divided and demotivated now. They absolutely can’t be trusted and seem to be more incompetent by the day!

I personally think it's deliberate - herd immunity has always been their goal. Not updating that symptoms list will, as demonstrated by OP and a few others, mean a number of people simply won't get a PCR and then go out and spread it to many more people.

If they updated the symptoms, more people would be isolating, more people would be testing, the spread would slow down. Also, they'd struggle to keep up with the demand for tests!

MrsJamieFraser22 · 01/01/2022 17:50

My DD woke up a few days ago with very similar symptoms she tested negative on a lateral flow but the next day we tested again as she was worse and also feeling faint and it was positive. Waiting for the PCR results but pretty certain she has the new variant. You’ve done the right thing OP and she was only feeling ill first 2 days so hopefully will pass quickly for you

nevergoesaway · 01/01/2022 18:33

@Tillow4ever I can’t quote you for some reason but I do agree with you having read your comment! I’ve seen things about them wanting to do herd immunity by stealth for a while over the past couple of years and it may be that not updating the symptoms list is another way of ensuring this.

And yes it’s also probably because the demand for testing would be too much. I really can’t express how much I hate this government!

Momof2boys1girl · 01/01/2022 18:40

Are you swabbing your throat as well as your nose? I’ve seen that omicron is more likely to show up on a throat AND nose swab not just nose.

Yes I tried one of each this morning

Great news.

I was thinking this morning this feels more like a flu. I have had flu jab so it would likely be a mild Illness in me too. I had flu in 1997 and it was vile.

This isn't as vile but certainly feels more like the same type of symptoms.

I had covid March 2020 and that felt different.

Iyswim?!
