Anyone close contact and not catch it?!

LifesTooShortYOLO · 30/12/2021 11:25

I was with someone on Monday who has tested positive today.
Freaking out.
Am I more likely than not to get it?!
Has anyone not actually caught it after being in close contact with someone's recently?

OP posts:

DS bought it home from uni. None of us have caught it despite him not isolating and loving with us as normal.

DixieSun · 30/12/2021 13:17

Living.

ScarlettSunset · 30/12/2021 13:21

Try not to worry too much OP. I know it's difficult as I'm currently in the same waiting situation after being a close contact on Sunday. It'll only be a few days until you know. I've just been making sure I have shopping on order in case I have caught it, and doing what I can practically to make things easier if that's the case (or even if I haven't)

Siameasy · 30/12/2021 13:22

Loads don’t catch it

MyCatHatesPCRTests · 30/12/2021 13:24

Me. Toddler DC had it so no distancing possible. None of the rest of us caught it. Adults double vaxxed and boosted (but not early enough for it to have taken effect), DC1 unvaccinated as too young.

flowerycurtain · 30/12/2021 13:25

Yup. I tested positive on 19th Dec (so possibly omicron?) 1 week post booster. No symptoms to note. I was tired and sneezed a bit but if I I hadn't have LFT'd I wouldn't have known.

Sat in the car with kids and DH for 8 hours the day before testing positive so we didn't bother trying to isolate within the house. 12 days later they have tested negative every day.

MelonTits · 30/12/2021 13:27

Yep. DP tested positive (test on Xmas Eve, result on 27 Dec) and we have been sharing a bedroom and small living space throughout. I’ve done a LFT every day since Cmas Eve and had a PCR on the 27th - all negative.

KDMBL · 30/12/2021 13:28

@carlyswirly

Did you get a strong positive on a lateral flow in the end then? I’m 100% going to keep testing me and the kids just to be sure we’re going to isolate anyways to be on the safe side. It’s the feel dreadful with all the symptoms that’s making me worry more yet negative test results x

Streamingbannersofdawn · 30/12/2021 13:30

Me...twice, my husband once and my son once (and he was too young to be vaccinated at the time).

carlyswirly · 30/12/2021 13:53

@KDMBL yes - really strong line on lft today. Absolutely nothing at all yesterday afternoon. I've been testing daily and minimising contact because dp had just had it and I'd been exposed before he realised.

Feel better that I wasn't imagining the symptoms but they're really mild and I'm lucky. Now watching the dcs like hawks. Good luck x

My teenage DD has avoided it so far despite being a close contact several times. She's sat next to other pupils in school what have then tested positive (three times), worked with people in a restaurant kitchen who have then tested positive (twice), played sport with people who have then tested positive (twice) and been pinged by the app after going for coffee. She's had to do a PCR as a close contact pretty much every week between September and the end of term. She didn't have her first vaccine until October. But she has still managed to avoid it catching it so far.

Villanelle17 · 30/12/2021 14:09

Yes in September 2020. Was sat next to my aunt in the car for over half an hour. She tested positive the next day. I didn't catch it. She knew she had symptoms when she was in the car with me, but didn't tell me till later that day. I was worried as my mum was also in the car and had cancer, but luckily she didn't catch it either.

nancy75 · 30/12/2021 14:16

DH tested positive 15 December (we are in London so almost definitely omicron) DD & I didn’t catch it. He did isolate from us in the house but DH & I had been sharing a bed up to 15 mins before his positive test result so I must have been exposed to it.
Dd has had 2 jabs(2nd at start of Dec) I had my booster mid November

samyeagar · 30/12/2021 14:16

With as rampant as this has run for the past two years, I'd dare say pretty much everyone has had multiple close contacts throughout whether they know it or not.

WithASpider · 30/12/2021 14:21

DS! One of 5 in this house he's the only one not to test positive. Everyone who tested positive has had more than one jab too.

pairsinparis · 30/12/2021 14:21

My household didn't catch it when I was positive, and we shared a bed and co slept with one of our ds.

We didn't catch it when kids had been playing all day with positive case at childminders - that has happened three times now

ChristmasWithBellsOn · 30/12/2021 14:24

DH and I (double vaxxed at the time) managed not to catch it from our face-breathing, fork sharing, bed sharing, DD (5).

gegs73 · 30/12/2021 14:29

Me! I went out with a friend who talks a lot (lots of germs) a week before Christmas for a meal who tested positive for Omicron a day later! Sat directly opposite her for about 2 hours. I was waiting to catch the thing for 10 days and daily tested but nothing. Same in a very small, cramped restaurant with another friend where we sat for over 2 hours. She was pinged saying we were in close contact with someone with it and again nothing 🤷‍♀️ Add to this two DSs in secondary schools surrounded by positive cases on and off and still not got it. I have been triple jabbed though so maybe I'm immune or have had it without knowing.

user290814356289 · 30/12/2021 14:33

Me and ds never caught it from dh and dd first time around and no one caught it from me when I had it. Ds is the only one who's not had it.

Alexandra2001 · 30/12/2021 14:34

Xmas day, all day in close proximity (hugs n kisses) with two people who tested positive on the 27th, the rest of us (5) all fine BUT the two positives had no vaccinations and the 5 of us were all jabbed and boosted, they are both young and have mild symptoms, which unfortunately, bolsters their anti covid vaccine beliefs.

Qwertykeys · 30/12/2021 14:35

Me , one in our house had it the other four of us never caught it

GlassRaven · 30/12/2021 14:38

Me and one DC have it. The other DC has not. (Confirmed by PCR)
The DC who is negative now had delta in Sept. Me and other DC did not catch it from him.
Small house. One bathroom. Too cold to have windows open all the time.
Me sole carer:-cooking, cleaning, washing etc for all.

TillyTopper · 30/12/2021 14:38

I have examples for you. Firstly last Xmas I had CV19 and was pretty rough (pre-jab being available). I caught it when I went to see my Dad in hospital (I was allowed in as he was close to passing). My Mum was living with us and she is 90... my Mum and two sons didn't catch it.

One of my sons had CV19 early Dec this year, so did DH. I never caught it and my other son has never had CV19 (no antibodies) inspite of a very hectic social life!

ZenNudist · 30/12/2021 14:39

My dc when do and I had it. In any given family a lot didn't catch it when the rest did. Don't freak out.

MsSquiz · 30/12/2021 14:40

My SIL tested positive before Christmas, on returning from a weekend away with multiple members of the family and no one else caught it, including her DH and 3 children
