Anyone close contact and not catch it?!

LifesTooShortYOLO · 30/12/2021 11:25

I was with someone on Monday who has tested positive today.
Freaking out.
Am I more likely than not to get it?!
Has anyone not actually caught it after being in close contact with someone's recently?

Yep DS(21) 2 weeks before Christmas he lives here neither DH or I caught it.

BigWoollyJumpers · 30/12/2021 11:54

DD spent 6 hours, 3 x 2 hours, in a car (with masks and windows open though) with her driving instructor prior to Xmas. He tested positive the next day, after her being with him all week in that close situation. She didn't it.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 30/12/2021 11:56

I haven’t had it yet. Both of my children have had it, at separate times, and no one else in the household caught it.

Florencenotflo · 30/12/2021 11:56

My friends husband got it in April 2020, was on a ventilator for months in a London hospital. But for the week before he was admitted my friend and her children were all with him and around him, none of them caught it.

There doesn't seem to be any reason/pattern to it all.

ashorterday · 30/12/2021 11:57

Why are you freaking out exactly?

gsaoej · 30/12/2021 11:59

It likes some people better than others. Everyone in my house but ds had it. He was so heavily exposed - sharing a room before we knew we were all positive, food prepared by covid positive people, in car (before we knew!) with us etc. he didn’t catch it. 15yo lateral flowed every day, all neg. He’s also been exposed at school. Still didn’t get it.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 30/12/2021 12:00

@ashorterday

Why are you freaking out exactly?
I have health anxiety that's been made worse with the pandemic 😥

Yeah in October a load of people from my work had it and I didn’t. Was double vaccinated with the second dose in July. I’ve been pinged on the app loads of times. DD has been a close contact at nursery a few times. DH has been a close contact at school practically continuously (secondary school teacher). How none of us have had it, I have no idea.

islaviolent · 30/12/2021 12:04

My son had it in November . I took him for the test and he sneezed in my face . Some minor miracle I didn't get covid

VittysCardigan · 30/12/2021 12:04

Yep, OH positive before Christmas, we spent isolation together & carried on as usual. I didn't get it.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/12/2021 12:04

I'm a teacher and have taught loads of kids who have tested positive but I have never had it. Even before I was eligible for the vaccine.

My mum works in a care home and they have had quite a few residents and staff test positive over the last few weeks but my mum hasn't caught it. She does work in full PPE but still has to be close to residents. She has to take 3 lft a week and 1 pcr so pretty sure it would be detected if she had it.

m1shap3 · 30/12/2021 12:06

I've currently got it, and the rest of the family living here keep testing negative

Bluebluemoon · 30/12/2021 12:07

Yes, we have 4 dc's and one dd has had it twice with minor symptoms and eldest ds has just been home from uni for Christmas with it again with minor symptoms (I wouldn't have him being alone at Xmas so went and collected him) and the rest of us have all been fine. No one else has caught it to my knowledge despite us not even being that careful tbh, all ate Xmas dinner together etc, played board games. Dh and I are double vaccinated.

I think we've probably all had it at some point but it's just been very minor symptoms.

ExPatHereForAChat · 30/12/2021 12:11

Yep. One person in house with 5 others for 4 hours. That person tested positive the next day and no one else got covid (it's now been 2.5 weeks since then).

RoRoYoYo · 30/12/2021 12:18

Yes. I work in a school and haven't caught it. DH and DD both had it earlier this month and I didn't catch it from them either. I do feel like it's only a matter of time though.

deadlanguage · 30/12/2021 12:18

We spent the day with some of DP’s relatives and the next day one of them tested positive. This was a week ago and we have tested negative every day and even more weirdly the relative’s DW has tested negative too! We’re all double jabbed so assume that protected the rest of us.

BeyondMyWits · 30/12/2021 12:23

3 people at work had it, I work side by side with one of them. At the same time, my Dd19 was also a close contact... 5 out if the 7 of them in the same uni flat had it, she has not.

We were all double vaxed, I was boosted. She is now.

KDMBL · 30/12/2021 12:24

Currently my other half has tested positive he feels absolutely fine now - where as I keep testing negative and feel absolutely dreadful! Kids are coughing but there also testing negative 😳😳 it’s all strange how it works x

Siepie · 30/12/2021 12:30

DW caught it in the summer. We didn't distance from each other and I didn't catch it. I'd only had 1 jab at that point.

I also got a close contact notification on the app (don't know who the contact was) and didn't catch it.

Bailey48 · 30/12/2021 12:33

Me been on trains /pubs /shops can't wear a mask for medical reasons saying that will prob get it now

TricolourCat · 30/12/2021 12:34

Take vitamin C and vitamin D daily (check with your GP if medically supervised) and get to be by 11pm for a good night's sleep and keep sugar/booze to a minimum and eat healthily. Manage stress levels with the Calm App or other practice like pilates, yoga or daily walks.

carlyswirly · 30/12/2021 12:39

@KDMBL this was exactly me until this morning! I couldn't understand how I had all symptoms but no negative tests and then it's a strong positive all of a sudden. Took 10 days from exposure to show up - symptoms started at 5/6 days. Have been lying low and avoiding social contact thank goodness.

To be honest, it's a relief to know for sure.

Bbq1 · 30/12/2021 12:59

Dh tested positive on 23rd. He hasn't isolated from us. Ds and I haven't caught it.

Coasterfan · 30/12/2021 12:59

DS had it, me, DH and DD did not. We live in a tiny house and have not isolated him away from us.

Metallicalover · 30/12/2021 13:00

You'll never know OP, frontline nhs worker here, exposed all the time. Just caught the rona Christmas Eve! Xx
