Get rid of all restrictions

I think it's time for all restrictions to be removed. There has been plenty of time for people to be vaccinated / boosted that want to, those that can't or don't should take their own precautions.

If we test positive then we shouldn't need to isolate, shouldn't need to declare it and should just treat it as a normal cough / cold / illness. If you feel up to going to work, out to the pub, seeing friends or family then do so. Everyone I know who have had it say they feel fine.

Life has been disrupted for far too long, the costs associated are astronomical and will be a crippling debt for generations to come.

@bringmelaughter

Back to field hospitals that we don’t have the staff for.

All good here to lose the tiny amount of mitigations we actually have in place (as long as you don’t mind being cared for in a car park by the absolute minimum of qualified clinical staff if you need a hospital admission).

Couldn't we just use the army to staff them?
herecomesthsun · 30/12/2021 20:50

The army is great, but it is staffed by people rather than automata and they get ill as well.

All it really needs is a little imagination.
bringmelaughter · 30/12/2021 21:00

Many qualified army clinicians already work in the NHS either as trainees or into the army as reservists. I’d guess a number are deployed and it’s not an endless pool of clinicians for the army any more than it is for the NHS.

herecomesthsun · 30/12/2021 21:01

Maybe the army could imagine extra staff? Or imagine that they aren't infected if they get covid?

bringmelaughter · 30/12/2021 21:02

Point is that we’re again at a point where hospitals and clinicians are being asked to do even more again but some people think this is the ideal time to ditch the light mitigation’s we have. I struggle to see the logic.

herecomesthsun · 30/12/2021 21:05

I think people just want to pretend it's all not happening, and hope that if we behave as if there isn't a problem, it will all go away...

crocidura · 30/12/2021 21:05

Also - there aren't that many army doctors and they all have jobs already.

Not just doctors think of all the highly trained disciplined personel in the army and navy.

Don't forget the garage mechanics!

Garage mechanics are far too busy working hard keeping this country safe.

Not sure which is madder, this thread or the one about the neighbours drying their smalls in the front garden 😂

FestiveMelts · 30/12/2021 21:42

Totally agree with you, OP.

And that's fine.

So long as they're not part of the government whose responsible for keeping the people of this country safe from threats

MarshaBradyo · 30/12/2021 21:48

It will peak and fall, rather than pretence etc

High numbers were expected so it’s not surprising

Omicron has infected around 20% of the pop. and it can v easily re infect, so why would numbers fall? esp as millions have had no vaccine and millions more just 2 ineffective ones.

Of course what matters is hospitalisations not who has a mild cold.

I find it rather worrying that the UK is once again an outlier and not only in Europe, what does Boris know that no one else doesn't.

Alexandra2001 · 30/12/2021 22:24

@Northsoutheastwest76

I do actually think the Patkrun situation was silly though. Parkruns for whatever reason didn't operate whilst I was taking part in other similar events so some of this must have been down to Parkrun rather than restrictions per se.
To be honest, i did my 1st parkrun recently and its rammed, not just at the start but going past or being passed by folk blowing snot everywhere, then there were all the other other park users too...

its not something i would repeat atm.

IcedPurple · 30/12/2021 22:29

How so?

Similar if not even higher rates are currently being seen in many European countries.

Blubells · 30/12/2021 22:32

Similar if not even higher rates are currently being seen in many European countries.

And those European rates will rise sharply as they are behind the Uk in terms of the omicron wave.

Hopefully we'll reach the plateau soon in the UK and rates start falling like in South Africa.

What do you mean?

Much of Europe has high cases and I’m also looking at Aus

Nothing says "No Covid Measures Necessary" like plans to put patients in tents in hospital car parks.

Exactly! Have a great NYE party, safebin the knowledge we've prepped the overflow tents ready for two weeks' time Confused

Definitely this one

We're having the biggest wave we've ever had.

On top of a "summer exit wave" that just never ended.

And our OP wants to get rid of all covid protections for everybody

And the maddest part is - there are hardly any right now anyway.

Newyearoldyou · 30/12/2021 23:12

Op I think we are getting to that point but not yet.
Omicron is quite exciting because tyere are murmurs that it may become the dominate strain.
Which is great if its mild and doesn't attack the respitory system anymore.
However, no one can be sure this is it.
Ages ago whitty said there would be one more nasty sting in the tail.

Once we get to march, with a vaccinated population, a few not vaccinated, this new strain, I think we will really turn the corner.

But to suddenly abandon all testing at least right now would be utter Maddness!
