Get rid of all restrictions

I think it's time for all restrictions to be removed. There has been plenty of time for people to be vaccinated / boosted that want to, those that can't or don't should take their own precautions.

If we test positive then we shouldn't need to isolate, shouldn't need to declare it and should just treat it as a normal cough / cold / illness. If you feel up to going to work, out to the pub, seeing friends or family then do so. Everyone I know who have had it say they feel fine.

Life has been disrupted for far too long, the costs associated are astronomical and will be a crippling debt for generations to come.

Yes, omicron appears to be a very mild cold for most. Those who are suspectible will need to take the precautions they always have done and the rest of us need to stop this self isolation when perfectly healthy.

MaxNormal · 29/12/2021 13:34

I honestly don't see what else we can do, at this point. Given that vaccines including boosters have been rolled out, we need an off-ramp now.

BeLessMe · 29/12/2021 13:35

DH is vaccinated but hasn’t developed a full immune response, he likely won’t survive if he catches Covid. I work in a public facing role. What is your suggestion on how I keep a roof over my, & DC, heads please?

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 13:36

@southeastdweller

Yes of course you can decide for you, what I meant was it would be totally stupid for a government to just 'decide' there were to be no more restrictions because the thicker half of the public are bored of it, wouldn't it?

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 13:38

Why do people who say "no restrictions" think somehow that would make the virus disappear?

The honest, but worrying, answer is because a lot of people are genuinely quite stupid.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 29/12/2021 13:38

@luckylavender

For those of you asking for removal of all restrictions. If you're in England, what 'restrictions' do you find so onerous currently?
Not being able to work and earn anything for up to 50 days if all 5 of us catch it consecutively and even worse if we are symptomless or mildly ill.
CorrBlimeyGG · 29/12/2021 13:39

@BeLessMe They don't give a shit about vulnerable people. People with disabilities have long been treated as second class citizens, now that treatment has been legitimised.

I wonder if they'd change their mind if they or a loved one had a missed cancer diagnosis, or delayed treatment that resulted in death? That's the reality that thousands of us have had to face.

megletthesecond · 29/12/2021 13:42

Removing restrictions in the winter would be a pretty dumb move. At least give the underfunded NHS a chance.

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 13:43

What the hell are you on about? This is such a fairytale scenario!

But if the idea is that you isolate the vulnerable indefinitely, it's a pale version of what many households will be condemned to
RoyalFamilyFan · 29/12/2021 13:45

You do know whatever we do, life will still not be normal? Other countries will still impose restrictions on us for travel. And if we have no restrictions at all and are not testing, then those restrictions from other countries are likely to be tougher.

Floraflower3 · 29/12/2021 13:46

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat if you’re fully vaccinated you don’t need to self isolate if a household member tests positive. It’s recommended you do lateral flows but you only need to isolate if you test positive

MerryChristmas21 · 29/12/2021 13:47

@AnEpisodeOfEastenders

those that can't or don't should take their own precautions

...and how do you propose they do that in a situation where covid is rife?

Nobody things this virus will disappear. But life is for living, not staying home cowering, in my view.
littlepeas · 29/12/2021 13:47

I doubt anyone thinks the virus will go away if restrictions end - it is more a case of people realising that our lives should no longer be dominated by it.

southeastdweller · 29/12/2021 13:47

thinks

Blubells · 29/12/2021 13:49

Not all people have had time to get boosted at all.

These 'boosters' only last 5-10 weeks anyway so we're never all going to be protected using them..!

We need to build up immunity from vaccines and infection.

Omicron is spreading soo fast, everyone will eventually come into contact. As long as the hospitals can cope, then I agree we need to try to live our lives as normally as possible.

Lucky you to have that choice

We are all fully vaccinated (except DD who is 11) but I'm a childminder, we are not allowed to work with a positive household member. As I said, this could raise to 50 days.

InCahootswithOrwell · 29/12/2021 13:51

But think of all the really expensive U.K. holidays you could go on instead of going abroad.

It's only a matter of time before ALL countries start easing all restrictions. We've got vaccines, ever improving treatments and an increasingly immune population.

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 13:52

@southeastdweller But life is for living, not staying home cowering, in my view

Then stop moaning and get out there - there is absolutely nothing stopping you. What exactly do you want to do today that you can't do?

All the moaning about 'restrictions' yet you can do anything you want today. What exactly are you moaning about?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 29/12/2021 13:52

@rrhuth why is it? Confused

MaxNormal · 29/12/2021 13:52

The honest, but worrying, answer is because a lot of people are genuinely quite stupid

I've found one of the least helpful parts of this debate is the categorisation of anyone in disagreement as stupid, thick etc.
It's also quite rude really.

IndigoC · 29/12/2021 13:54

How exactly are the current restrictions affecting your life given we basically don’t have any?
