If you had the choice between Pfizer and Modena which would you have?

I had AZ for both shots (no side effects) and just had Moderna this morning for my booster. This thread is making me nervous!

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 28/12/2021 14:15

I had the Moderna booster, never again. Huge, sore, swollen lump on my arm for days after and I was completely wiped out for the night and following day. Hot and cold sweats, pain, aches, exhausted and couldn't move.

LynetteScavo · 28/12/2021 18:35

I could only access the Moderna today, so I decided to see what the walk in at my GP is offering tomorrow. If it's Moderna I'll just go with it but I'd prefer Pfizer. Having such horrible side effects from the first Astra Zeneca has scared me a bit. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I avoided AZ on purpose (poor performance, and bad side effects), so ended up with 3 Moderna.

The first Moderna was quite horrible, my arm got very painful, stiff, and swollen, and I felt very hot and unwell at night (thankfully, only lasted a day).
Second Moderna was quite tame.
And third Moderna so far seems to be going the same way (had it just this morning, so not sure yet how bad it will get, but very mild so far, just a vague soreness at the injection site, and perhaps a faint headache + tiredness, but might just be normal Christmas side effects...)

mandoforever · 28/12/2021 20:06

@Watapalava

moderna gives better protection than pfizer - 45% Vs 35% after 10 weeks
Where's the evidence for this please? I had a moderna booster and my zoe app tells me the pfizer has a slightly better efficacy than the moderna booster.
pepperminttaste · 28/12/2021 20:10

I had AZ for the first two with no side effects. Moderna for the booster and the only side effect was a very, very sore arm.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/12/2021 20:14

I thought Moderna booster was more effective too. Can’t remember where l read it.

Flaxmeadow · 28/12/2021 20:17

There isn't much difference Pfizer and Moderna. They are both the same type of vaccine (mRNA).

dementedpixie · 28/12/2021 20:18

I didn't get a choice. In my LA only Pfizer is available

DivaBeliever · 28/12/2021 20:18

I had Moderna after double AZ. Three days of side effects (headache/fatigue/aches/nausea.)
Husband had Pfizer booster after double AZ. Minimum side effects.

Adult son tested Lat flow positive for Covid after 24 hours staying with us on Christmas Eve.

My husband tested positive with symptoms on Boxing Day. So far I am testing negative with no symptoms. Who knows what tomorrow brings (am testing daily) but we both caught Covid at the same time back in September 20.

I'm waiting for that double line, but at the moment the only difference is our Booster. If anything I had more exposure to son before his positive test.

powershowerforanhour · 28/12/2021 20:21

Wouldn't give a toss. Had 2 x AZ for primary course and was fine, Pfizer for booster and was fine. Like the majority of the population. (Well I had a very slightly sore arm for a bit with each, but so would I have if they'd injected plain saline into the muscle, probably).

Cookerhood · 28/12/2021 20:26

Interesting data out recently suggesting that AZ is better for cellular immunity which may be lifelong.

Cookerhood · 28/12/2021 20:28

I'm waiting for that double line, but at the moment the only difference is our Booster.
That and the difference between yiyr immune systems.
DS has been exposed continuously by his partner this week and has not caught it - 2 AZs & a Pfizer.

I was very ill after my first AZ jab and felt the same but I was absolutely fine after my moderna booster, I just had a slightly sore arm and that was it.
EbonanzaScrooge · 28/12/2021 20:35

I had Moderna and was absolutely fine. Didn’t get the choice though. Had AstraZeneca for my first two and had no side effects from them either

gogohm · 28/12/2021 20:36

I had moderna, no side effects

Tequilamockinbird · 28/12/2021 20:37

I had Moderna last week, no side effects other than a slightly sore arm. First 2 were AZ, no side effects with them either.

gogohm · 28/12/2021 20:38

Oh I had az for first 2 and no known infections this year. Makes a difference apparently

blue2222 · 28/12/2021 20:40

Makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. Pfizer + Moderna both great jabs and are v similar to one another. I work at a covid hub and we've given 150,000 jabs. Just get it done. Usually no choice offered.

purplesequins · 28/12/2021 20:44

doesn't matter.
both do the job.
take whatever is offered to you.

Iamkmackered1979 · 28/12/2021 20:49

I had 2 az felt shite after the first one fine the second then Pfizer for my booster sore arm but fine abs also had my flu jag in my other arm at the same time. I just took what they had at the time

blissfulllife · 28/12/2021 20:51

My poor dh had the Moderna as a booster yesterday. He's totally bedridden today. Even when he had actual Covid he wasn't this bad

DivaBeliever · 28/12/2021 21:30

@Cookerhood Good point. I also have Long Covid. We are in new territory with all this. Hopefully clearer pathways, backed by data, will emerge.

Goodmorninglights · 28/12/2021 21:35

After two Pfizer I had the Moderna booster, never again, face felt paralysed for 24 hours, scary.

WorriedMillie · 28/12/2021 21:43

I had 2 Pfizer for 1 and 2 (manageable side effects with both), Moderna booster (I felt so poorly for about 24h, from 8h post injection, then had manageable side effects for the next 48h)
I’m not sure how I feel about the prospect of another Moderna jab, that 24h was horrible- and I’m fairly robust!
