Are you avoiding public places?

Just as the title asks- are you avoiding public places such as shops, bars restaurants?
Eagerly awaiting an announcement from Boris and very conflicted as to what I want him to say.

We own a retail/ hospitality business and feel torn. If he's going to say that he isn't closing anything but advise people to be careful socialising then it's going to be hard slog for us if people don't visit places.
If he closes us and brings back furlough/ grants etc then whilst its far from ideal the choice is removed and we do what we can to survive .

If he isn't closing things then the sector need people on seats and I'm worried people are going to be to scared.

Sorry for the rambling not even sure what I'm asking now! 🤪

@wallypopz honestly? I don’t know, I thought I would have caught it with being out so much in clubs and at gigs, the gig I was at a few weeks ago was an omicron hotspot and still nothing

AllKnowingGerbil · 27/12/2021 19:24

I declined an invitation to meet in the city centre today as I figured it would be really busy. I also cancelled a theatre trip in the days before xmas to boost my chances of not being ill on xmas day.

On the other hand I do have plans to meet friends in restaurants over the coming days.

I'm a bit worried that there will be restrictions post 1 jan (homeschool is my main worry), so would like to do a bit of socialising between now and then for my mental wellbeing.

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 27/12/2021 19:24

We've been avoiding public places on the whole , other than essential shopping .

Today however we broke that self-imposed rule as we're staying with family and in the interests of family harmony and peace we chose to go out to an indoor venue before we lost our shit with the family we're staying with

user1487194234 · 27/12/2021 19:26

No
I am not cutting back on anything

RussianSpy101 · 27/12/2021 19:27

I’m not avoiding anything.

gogohm · 27/12/2021 19:30

Nope, looking forward to retail therapy tomorrow and meals out Grin

Wizzbangfizz · 27/12/2021 19:38

No never test, I've had it in triple jabbed and have confirmed antibodies. I'd possibly test if I had symptoms.

ParkheadParadise · 27/12/2021 19:39

No, we don't test. I had covid 2 months ago. I would only test if I had symptoms.

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:40

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii maybe your lucky, I know people who have had it twice!

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:43

I have to do LFTs tests for work, you use them if no symptoms. Lots of colleagues tested positive in Dec despite no symptoms & being ill the first time round.

It makes sense now 😆

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:44

I've had it too back in Feb

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/12/2021 19:47

@wallypopz I don’t think luck has anything to do with it. I’ve just done some module material on T cell immunity which was very interesting and I honestly just think some people have some immunity to it from past Illnesses. This has never been looked at in any depth though so I’m probably completely wrong

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:49

I had Covid in August, maybe I've still got immunity.

I was tested for antibodies, which I had. I was told they can last at least 8 months so perhaps. Still quite unknown though.

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii are you testing though?

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/12/2021 19:50

@wallypopz yep, was twice weekly now up to every day as requested by my NHS board all staff have to test daily now

Sleepyquest · 27/12/2021 19:51

Not avoiding but I should be as heavily pregnant! However I want to make the most of it whilst I can

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:53

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii I'm not sure how i've avoided it this time round since so many of dcs school friends, colleagues & family have tested positive. Fingers x it stays like that!

BellaChagall · 27/12/2021 19:57

I was careful before Xmas as didn't want to risk plans with family, but not now. I want to support the hospitality industry as much as possible.

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:58

I'm also in the London hotspot for it.

FinallySomeNormality · 27/12/2021 19:59

Not at all!
Going about my life in the same way I have for the past 6 months or so since things opened up again. Wearing a mask, washing hands and have been boostered a week or so ago so feeling as protected as I can be right now.

I've got young kids and getting out with them is so important. Been swimming with the kids today and for a wander round the sales too.

Lightningrain · 27/12/2021 20:00

We’ve been avoiding busy places in the lead up to Christmas although we did eat out at a restaurant for a birthday meal last week.

It won’t bother us quite so much in January although DP has his own business and they’re currently so busy he couldn’t afford to take any time off ill/isolating.

We do still try and support our local pubs/restaurants/cafes by getting takeaways however and the option for takeaway has actually resulted in us spending more at local businesses than we did in the past. We’ve found that on evenings where it would have been too much of a rush to get home, showered and changed to go out for a meal we’ve instead enjoyed a chilled out takeaway meal collected on the way past.

lunar1 · 27/12/2021 20:00

I'm avoiding things I don't have to do to try and save the gatherings I really don't want to miss. I was able to visit my grandma and auntie in care homes. See my brother and his family. There is no restaurant or packed activity that would have been worth risking seeing my family.

treeflowercat · 27/12/2021 20:09

I've been a bit cagey pre-Christmas, as was nervous about catching it and not being able to see family and generally spoiling Christmas. Come January, i won't be holding back!

Dogsandbabies · 27/12/2021 20:11

We have continued as normal. With masks and sanitising but this past 7?days we have eaten out 4 times, been to the theatre twice and the pub twice too.

LittleBabyCheeses · 27/12/2021 20:15

No I’m not. Just recovered from covid and will be back to business as usual.

CouldThisReallyBe · 27/12/2021 20:36

Nope. Carrying on as normal. Was at the theatre on Christmas Eve and it was full.
