Are you avoiding public places?

Just as the title asks- are you avoiding public places such as shops, bars restaurants?
Eagerly awaiting an announcement from Boris and very conflicted as to what I want him to say.

We own a retail/ hospitality business and feel torn. If he's going to say that he isn't closing anything but advise people to be careful socialising then it's going to be hard slog for us if people don't visit places.
If he closes us and brings back furlough/ grants etc then whilst its far from ideal the choice is removed and we do what we can to survive .

If he isn't closing things then the sector need people on seats and I'm worried people are going to be to scared.

Sorry for the rambling not even sure what I'm asking now! 🤪

Still using public transport

Lifeisnteasy · 27/12/2021 18:58

No, the opposite if anything, I’m keen to support local businesses where I can and will be booking some meals out.

Toasterandjam · 27/12/2021 18:58

Yes I have. I only go where is essential and make it as quick as possible.

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 18:58

I can't see the county being able to afford another round of furlough - our national debt is huge, and interest rates are rising!

We can't afford mass unemployment either!

EezyOozy · 27/12/2021 18:59

Nope. I love going out and I need to take my children out or else we'll all go mad !

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:00

I do know lots of people who have had to have xmas alone & canx holidays plus I only had my booster a wk ago

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:01

Yes, we've avoided all entertainment venues and indoor eating and drinking since the start of this. Main reason being that both parents are CEV even with boosters (immuno-compromised). I can't see that changing in the near future and I don't know what will happen long term, obviously avoiding everywhere except shops can't go on forever. I'm sure bars, restaurants etc will go out of business, which is horrible for the owners and employees. But capitalism never sleeps so new places will replace them eventually - people won't stop wanting to go out to socialise.

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:05

How have so many people been out all the time & avoided self isolation/catching it? Me/the dc have had to self isolate so much.

sashagabadon · 27/12/2021 19:06

Everywhere I go is mobbed! Queues for a coffee shop today in a shopping centre and standing room only for a few stops on tube home.

Remmy123 · 27/12/2021 19:06

I've been put and about / panto / pub/ shops / airport/ kids on different school settings - never got it!!

I've never been particularly careful

MarcelineMissouri · 27/12/2021 19:07

No, we are doing exactly what we would normally do. We continue to enjoy eating out and going to the cinema, we’ve been to the panto, dh and I went to London for a couple of days just before Christmas and it was lovely.

I work in a primary school and that seems the most likely place I would catch it from anyway.

Life is for living.

TicTacHoh · 27/12/2021 19:09

No

sashagabadon · 27/12/2021 19:11

@Waxonwaxoff0

People are probably travelling home as well after the Christmas period, but I don't recognise this whole "everywhere is quiet" narrative! I went to the panto on Christmas eve, only a few spare seats and for a meal on the 22nd, all tables were full. I'm at Butlins now, loads of people here.
Completely agree. London is heaving! I can’t vouch for 8pm onwards as I’m home by then but pubs, restaurants, cafes packed. Also tube packed too, and service seems normal, a train every few minutes same as always. I just don’t recognise this “ghost town” vibe. Westfield shopping centre genuinely the busiest I’ve seen for ages. The queue for the till in Zara looked 45 mins long! (Although they do combine the refund and purchase queue which seems idiotic to me)
FreakinFrankNFurter · 27/12/2021 19:13

Nope, not avoiding anywhere. I'm not one for shopping anyway but went ice skating on christmas eve, out for Christmas Day lunch, and we're away for a night tomorrow with dinner out, out on NYE.

Will probably avoid pubs and restaurants in January but that's normal for us every year

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 19:16

The people who are going out regularly are you testing regularly?

furbabymama87 · 27/12/2021 19:18

No

We caught it in January from the GP surgery, haven't had it since and haven't been a close contact with anyone who tested positive. So that's almost a year of us going about our lives without being infected again or having to isolate.
Lifeisnteasy · 27/12/2021 19:19

@wallypopz

No.
Wizzbangfizz · 27/12/2021 19:19

Never have and never will and will be frequenting as long as they remain open which I hope they do!

I had Covid in August, maybe I've still got immunity.
AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/12/2021 19:21

Nope, been out every other weekend since august near enough, been to shows, gigs and my Xmas nights out as usual. I’m not vulnerable and I don’t live with anyone vulnerable and am triple vaccinated I’m not putting my life on hold any longer

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/12/2021 19:21

@wallypopz

The people who are going out regularly are you testing regularly?
No. Will test if/when I get symptoms or if I know I'm a close contact of someone who has it but I'm not doing LFTs regularly.
Lindy2 · 27/12/2021 19:22

We're being careful.

While cases are rising at the pace they currently are we'll avoid eating inside pubs/restaurants and places like cinemas and theatres. We went to the Panto and the cinema about 2 weeks ago and decided after that to just pause the inside entertainment for a while.

We're back to outside activities for a while - if it stops raining.

I know 5 people with Covid at the moment and I'd like to avoid getting it again (we went through it in January last year and were really quite ill).
