Why do all my LFTs look like this?

For the last 5 weeks every time I've tested. 4 PCR's in that time all negative. How am I meant to rely on them? DH's always tests from same pack with not even a hint of a line....

I still can't see a second photo, but it is important you check the test at the right time, as the dye can leach (not sure that is the right term) after that time

The line always appears within the first 15 min x

Mine are like this too.

Mine are like this too.
The ones I have are flow flex or something? The ones you just put up your nose. Are they the same as yours?

I've seen loads of examples like this on Flowflex tests. I'm amazed the nhs still use them, they seem v reliable.

squirrelnutkins1 · 26/12/2021 14:26

Is it a Flexflow one? Been a few threads on this lately. Mine are always faint positives like yours. I'm going to try and get a different brand next week.

Yes it is. Glad it isn't just me then!!

Mine look the same, usually when I have cold symptoms (clear negative old style test and negative PCR). I now go by if it's grey, it's not positive.
My boyfriend and my son produce clear white tests.
I had my 3 jabs and never had Covid.
I assume there is some kind of cross reaction with another cold virus. Or I am just weird.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 26/12/2021 14:39

This happens with my DCs test occasionally too. Every time, we trot off for a PCR and every time they come back negative. Yep, Flowflex.

I wonder if they pick up ANY Corona virus and not just Covid-19?

gorzelwummidge · 26/12/2021 14:41

I've had this - a clear and faint line then negative PCR. No symptoms and all other lateral flows over the week all negative

R0tational · 26/12/2021 14:42

Maybe you had it (asymptomatic) a few months ago and it's the residual virus???!!

Sally090807 · 26/12/2021 14:53

I did two tests last Tuesday and Wednesday and had 2 extremely faint lines so had a pcr Friday. Have been feeling absolutely awful for 3 days now.

INeedNewShoes · 26/12/2021 15:03

This happens to me too with the flowflex and has done since the first flowflex I used.

Multiple PCRs and other brands LFT have all been negative.

I'm going to try and get hold of a box of different branded ones!

Does anyone know where I can report this?

OP posts:
Paquerette · 26/12/2021 15:05

I’m pretty sure that the LFT instructions say that a test line must have colour to be positive. So, any kind of pink or red line is positive, but a grey line is negative.

CiderWithLizzie · 26/12/2021 15:06

My dd has also tested positive each week in a flowflex for the last 2 months. Negative pcr and negative on old style lateral flow tests.

JulieGoods · 26/12/2021 15:07

Search for FlowFlex on Mumsnet chat.

Loads of us getting faint lines on all FlowFlex tests. Really frustrating.

NellieBertram · 26/12/2021 15:07

An extremely faint grey line isn't a positive - it's probably just where the pink line would be, if it was positive.

8MinutesToSunrise · 26/12/2021 15:08

Mine's had a similar line first on the 24th. Got coldy symptoms. Had pcr on 24th, came back inconclusive. Had another pcr this morning.

This is what I think. It’s like the lines on pregnancy tests which just show slightly differently once they’ve got wet. It needs colour to be positive, even a very faint pinkness.
JingleBeth · 26/12/2021 15:23

I’ve heard that drinking coke or having blueberries can lead to lines that. Not tried it myself but could be why.
