Omicron - back pain

DaveDave · 26/12/2021 13:00

I've tested positive (assuming omicron as was in contact with it). Headache, fatigue, sore throat and weirdly back pain. Why back pain? Did anyone else get this? Just googled it and it is a symptom

Yes my friend did - her gp said it’s a key new symptom, she said it felt like contractions

Ihearthosesleighbellsringing · 26/12/2021 13:09

Yes me. Have what I describe as labour in my lower back, on day 7 now and still have the awful back pain.
My only symptoms have been the back pain, headache at the start and fatigue.

It makes no sense to me how it's presenting as back pain but it's definitely a symptom.

DaveDave · 26/12/2021 13:10

So odd isn't it - yes now you mention it it's like the very early stages of labour.

I take a high dose of vit D everyday to manage chronic back pain (I know if I forget because the pain comes back). Covid is worse in those deficient in vit D. Most brits don’t get enough bit D in winter. Could be a coincidence, but…….

Me! Tested positive on the 19th and had a very mild case (ie slight headache and a bit snotty). All symptoms gone now apart from the back pain! It’s awful and has spread round to my hips as well. It’s bearable in the day but when I get into bed at night it is pure agony!

Are you now negative on a lateral flow? Asking as I also tested positive on 19th but still showing strong positive. Was hoping for some freedom.
Titsywoo · 26/12/2021 13:20

Yes I had runny nose, sneezing, fatugue and back/leg pain.

bettybyebye · 26/12/2021 14:05

@Ihearthosesleighbellsringing - yes, I have been negative on lateral flow since Thursday so was able to end isolation yesterday (although we’d already cancelled all our plans!).
I think I caught my covid a bit late as I initially thought my symptoms were after effects of the booster jab.

Iusedtobeasister · 26/12/2021 14:06

I had Covid at the end of November and had awful back pain with it

Siuan · 26/12/2021 15:04

I had it when I had covid in the summer so presumably Delta. Lower back, sort of kidney areI was double vaxxed.
I also know my Vit D levels were high because my GP did a Vit D test for another reason.

I ended up in hospital and another patient with covid had been admitted because of the back pain.

Happylittlethoughts · 26/12/2021 15:10

Oh I had this in first few days. Now left with dizziness, vertigo and upset digestive system

Crackingowlsanctuary · 26/12/2021 15:13

First couple of days I had really achy hips/lower back, sometimes went down to top of legs… not so much pain, but just achy in a flu type way. This disappeared when the cold symptoms started.

onemouseplace · 26/12/2021 15:24

Me! My first symptoms were headache, fatigue and lower back pain that was really similar to the sort I get pre-menstrually.

Berlinkreuzberg · 26/12/2021 15:28

Partner had horrendous back pain with the second wave. As did a colleague in the first one.

JohnSmithDrive · 26/12/2021 15:29

I didn't have Omricon because I had Covid thus time last year , but I did have awful backache that lasted for about 3 weeks after all the other symptoms had gone.

Whatapickle78 · 26/12/2021 18:04

I have this exact pain too! I do wonder if it means there is some damage in the kidney area… I had it back in March 2020 too when I first had Covid. I’m day 14 now with what I suspect is Omicron and the back pain is hideous. So true that it feels like labour pains!

OliveTree75 · 26/12/2021 19:05

Hmmm well this thread has made me think. My DP woke up feeling very nauseous, tired and headache this morning. He then asked me for a hot water bottle as his lower back was very sore. I feel full of cold as well but we are both negative on lateral flows

Mylittlesecret10021 · 26/12/2021 19:11

I had it in the middle of my back and it came through to my chest. Very weird and uncomfortable. Was one of my first symptoms

Welliesandpyjamas · 26/12/2021 19:25

Oh, this could make so much sense! Last weekend I could barely move for strong back pains, which I put down to kidneys. It lessened for some of this week and came back strong on Thursday, and I got 2 positive LFTs on Friday.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 26/12/2021 19:28

I have Covid atm and I'm assuming it's the new varient. I started with lower back pain and achy legs, 4 days in the aches and pains have gone and I have a stuffy nose, nothing else.

Morethanwordsonapage · 27/12/2021 00:47

I had backache too as one of my first symptoms, like labour pains - I had never seen a box to tick to describe it as such but labour pains is perfect. On Day 2 of symptoms the backache turned to my hips and legs. A couple of nights of terrible sleep. Wonder what could have alleviated this. Amazing how quickly you forget though as Days 3,4,5 just a bad cold with night sweats. Currently Day 6/7 and very mild now (hopefully it won’t turn).

halfgirlhalfturnip · 27/12/2021 01:02

Backache and heartburn were my early symptoms last week.

You need a PCR with symptoms, not a lateral flow. The postal ones are speedy at the moment.
TwoAndCooPlease · 27/12/2021 01:32

Since Wednesday I have had headache that suddenly got worse today. Really awful. Fatigue. Nausea and last night felt like period pains.
DP felt he same from the Tuesday but is starting to get a bit better now

We've both been testing negative on LFTs so assumed we had a bit of the flu

SingingSands · 27/12/2021 01:50

I always get back pain if I get flu. I had it with the AZ vaccine and I had it when I had covid in September (presuming it was Delta then).
